Interesting how it’s retrospective and for for a long while too.

Also made me realise one of my fleet has lived a sheltered life and never had an mot outside of my own town since new

The pontiac from previous page has been traced via autoshite, i message a chap on here from that area and low and behold he knows the car, where it lives and has a pic of it on his phone. Ace :)

I spotted this earlier too, I've spent a while looking at my old cars and seeing what's still local, interestingly (for me) the MG Midget which was traded in my the original owner of my Dolomite back in 1979 is still alive and now living in a village near Solihull, it's only done 1500 miles in 10 years and has 31000 miles on the clock, it would be great to get them both together.

My old Leon did a full circle... Originally Doncaster, registered to the Environment Agency. Then Louth, Lincoln, me in Leicester, then Wakefield and last MOTed in.... Doncaster.

Ooh. When I was very young my old man repainted his MGB GT WDY348M. It was originally white, he sprayed it Inca Yellow. It was the car he brought me home from hospital in when I was born.

Happy to find it is alive and well somewhere near Chesham painted in red.

My S60 is on Oxford plates; at 6 months old it was sold via the Volvo dealer in Paisley to a man in Kilcreggan. He MOT'd it between Helensburgh and the local garage in Kilcreggan for many years. He sold it and it ended up in Cardiff. From Cardiff it ended up in East Kilbride, then Blantyre, then to me. In Paisley.

Had a nosy... my first brand new car (a 2004 Focus) has been scrapped in the last year; since 2007 when I traded it in, it was j Aldershot. The Focus that replaced it is in Leicester. The last new car I bought, a 2010 Mondeo is now in Perth.

And daft. The area the car's being tested in may have no relation to the location. Treasured cars may have a preferred garage by the owner.

I'll second this. My parents still take all their cars to the garage near where my Mum worked as a teacher 40 years' ago. It's still not that far for them to go, but certainly not the closest either.

Said photos, from said person. Happy to oblige, kinkersaab.

The first photo is from a couple of years ago. The second from halloween 2016 in Whitehaven. The Firebird still kicks about regularly around here (West Cumbria), and I think it might even be a daily driver.

Part of my vast collection of papped tat, but as spotted threads seem to have gone out of fashion around these parts I haven't posted any for years now. I've got into the habit of photographing anything old and interesting on my travels though.

Surely that Firebird would be worth far more in its original SATB colour scheme though?

I wonder if sites like TotalCarCheck that scrape this info will be able to somehow display it on a map?

Posted

I think not, as one of the reasons it took so long to implement (according to the DVSA), is that they wanted to prevent that. They didn't want people scraping the website and finding out which centres are more likely to pass than others and for what.

Check the MOT history of a vehicle

We’re working on an improvement to the ‘Check the MOT history’ service, to show the details of the garage where the MOT took place. We know this is something we frequently get asked for.

We know that at the moment some automated systems scan and use data from the service - which is fine for the data we currently make available. However, with garage data they could try and compare test results by garage, in a way that might mislead the public.

We’re working on stopping this type of automated access, and once we’ve done that, we’ll make this garage information available to the general public and promote it more widely.

My old Disco TD5 I mentioned in my TD5 replacement thread is still going with 178k on the clocks, so it maybe isn't as bad as I claimed!

I checked it out and realised it was MOTd last month, 5 months early, and in Northamptonshire when I sold it locally in Cumbria a year ago. Turns out the buyer spent a lot of money on it (some unnecessary) and punted it on, and it's now for sale again. Having the address on there is going to be very useful!

The BM was MOT'd at the same garage from 2007 until 2014 -  always nice to see that. With a rather nice fail list at kwikfit and then tested at another garage 2 months and 18 miles later! still failed but not as comprehensive.

I can confirm that no car owned and sold by me is still on the road, lol.

Some of mine are. Some that I genuinely did not expect to make it past the next month, like the Micra the wife had, the patch over another patch on the sills was lifting off, I can remember the new owner arriving as I was bashing the plate flat against the sill so it didn't look as bad as he arrived to view it. It's still on the road though 6-7 years later. That said every test it's had some serious welding and multiple fails on stuff like the suspension and emissions. Looking at it the guy that bought it has chucked a good £4-500 a year at scraping a test out of it. Madman! Credit to him for persevering with it. I'd have scrapped the fucker if it'd ran out of fuel such was my contempt for the little red bastard.

I love dissecting bodge jobs like this to investigate how bad the rot is.  Especially if it's not my car!

My '08 Yaris has now ended up in Orkney! The London reg 1850 appears on the system in 2011 already in Scotland, the 1300 trundled to the same Coventry garage every under it's first owner and my 62 plate Corsa has fallen off the face of the Earth...

I am so happy the DVLA have brought this back - great to find out locations of past cars, for example I now know my old Golf GT TDi that I've been trying to trace for years was M.o.T'd last at Tarbert, Argyll & Bute.

Class bodyworks oh dear......

i know nothing about them,i sold the anglia a few years before,i did a cazana check which reveals 6 former keepers and origianal colour as black, its a reshell using my 1959 reg/vin.when i aquired 3194wa it was from a deceased lady from goldthorpe near rotheram, there were zero former keepers on the v5,in fact i had it on the understanding that i mot the car,the vendor retains the reg,i get a new age related plate, the car was a little far gone and i sold it to who i thought was a restorer, seems like the id has been transfered to a slightly younger car

This thread meant I checked my MOT status on the omega and realised it ran out on Tuesday. I thought it ran out yesterday, hence me booking it in for an MOT this morning.

Ah well. By lunch time I will know the worst.

Has anyone heard from Hendry? I assume he has jizzed himself into a coma looking up local cars for local people.

You're right - there's a few that get a lot of it, but I've not yet found one that does it all.

For example - TotalCarCheck does MOT history, power (which is quite cool for playing virtual top trumps), whilst Cazana tells you what number plates  it's previously worn but doesn't have quite so much information on the car itself.

I wonder how hard it is to scrape a website....
