Gotta love 1990s Toyota build quality. Definitely the way to go for an easy life (which it sounds like you need).

Good luck with it.

My Avensis auto only did 29mpg, which I thought was shit really as I couldn't have been any gentler with the throttle, they are not bad cars, think my old one is still going somewhere, sold to JohnK off this forum.

I'm told you need to let them rev but only on partial throttle, to get the best out of them.

Ut just feels like i can get in it,drop into drive and point it anywhere and it will do it. Its not sporty,it doesnt look fantastic but it feels a solid old honest motor

My local mechanic has the manual version of this, I think it's a hatchback and I can't even remember if yours is a saloon and I only saw it 10 seconds ago.

Teasing aside, a very useable car, his has got about 180,000 on it and drives as smooth as you like. It's got the same radio as yours too.

Well bought!

If it's anything like its older sibling the Carina E, it will be here long after the sun has burned out and the cockroaches have moved to another planet.  A friend of mine, as I've probably mentioned before, managed to get 10 years near faultless service out of hers with almost zero maintenance.

Congrats on the sensible purchase.

I have noticed my 405 auto is pretty bad with fuel, so this morning I gently wound it up on the motorway and didn't once use kickdown. Seemed to work. Car also responded better to it.

I remember when the Avensis came out. Looked pretty modern for the day didn't it?

I liked the early prefacelift like this then i thpught they went downhill. Yes it is a forgettable motor but its now getting of age where they have all but dissappeared

Looks like a baby Lexus with the auto. Millions of taxi drivers couldn't have been wrong :)

I think it looks the business, pal's folks had the same model, also on an R plate from new, did 240K before they eventually traded it in a couple of years ago. They kept waiting for it to fail an mot, but it never did!

I can't think of a more sensible motor than this. Except maybe a Corolla auto as slightly smaller and easier to park. Either option should prove loyal transport, my 9 year old Corolla did me five years of happy service in exchange for fresh 10/40 every six months, a fan belt, and two tyres. Cheap motoring. I would expect this to deliver similar so good luck with it!

I did used to get people stop me at lights asking if I was a Minicab though!

Get some bondo and rattle cans.

Japanese fake wood is terrible - I dread to think what their fake tits must be like.

For this google is definitely not your friend.

Personally I think wood plus leather means that Bub now thinks he's too good for the velour sniffing plastic dashed people of Autoshite.

The equivalent of A months PCP payment for something that'll get you to the moon and back without worrying about excess mileage charges, def a top find.

I cant stop finding excuses to drive it. Its so smooth and quiet. Them wheel trins are no good because ive got alloys. Flaky alloys but still!

Right, small electrical issue developed this evening. When i turn ignition on the tev counter flutters, the trip and clock resets, also lost interior light and central locking. Fuse blown causes weird tricks maybe?
