Free BX Gti's 4x4 & 4x4 Estates - Harwell , Oxfordshire

Did think about putting this in the ebay TAT thread, but aware there is a lot of love for BX's on here.

Also cant remember the last time I saw anything relating to 4x4 BX's so thought it could justify a thread on its own.

All the details are as below via the link to the BX thread.

https://www.bxclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&p=263801#p263801

There are multiple free cars available, but non are running. From the thread they were driven to current location 12 years ago and have not been touched since.

No link to "seller" just thought I'd post here if anyone might be interested,

I'm not that far away up in Birmingham, so if anyone from here puts there name forward to get one, I'd probably be able to come down in the Jeep and assist with removal/extraction

I was going to say I am in Weston most weekends but the cars aren't there they are in Oxfordshire. Hopefully someone will save them but it will be quite a job by the sound of it.

Oops - Amended thread title accordingly,

Read the "advert" properly and they were obtained from a collector in WSM many years ago, and are in Harwell

What an opportunity! Hopefully they will all be saved.

I've asked.... They are in Herefordshire, midway Bromyard/Ledbury.

If they are a potential go-er, we'll be up.

There was also mention of one in Pangbourne, which I've expressed interest in as it's the same colour as the one I'm shortly acquiring, and I'm friendly with a local garage who may be able to offer help.

If there's one in Triton Green it could be worth letting Ruffgeezer know.

I need to shift a Triton Green parts car asap, is he looking for one?

At Shitefest he mentioned wanting a Triton Green shell as there was a low mileage write off one in his work that he wanted to re-shell, after noticing a Hurricane languishing outside the Bubblecar Museum. Worth it on the off chance perhaps?

That is near me - if you should need an extra pair of hands on the day etc.....

There are two on the A340 out of Pangbourne towards Upper Basildon alongside the river, bookended by a pair of Ford Cougars of all things. From memory one white and one black. All four are being reclaimed by nature.

Indeed, the white one is the one up for potential grabs! Black one long gone but since replaced by (somehow?!) a MK4 Escort Chairman conversion.

That has to be AS gold/calendar money shot territory, even more so than the Metro Chairman.

I'm nearby. I can help if needed. I may even be interested on one or two of them. Just to break but better than just being weighed in

Sadly its 'just' a van conversion, not a regular Escort.

Update for you lot, they aren't in Herefordshire, they are definitely in Oxfordshire. Can potentially assist people who want to go and help date dependant but if its a weekend, it should be all good.

Also, I'm first in line for the Pangbourne one should it actually be let go. Just checking the MOT history and it 'only' expired in 2013. And it's a turbo diesel. Who knows, might be okay underneath all that hedge that has basically eaten it. Didn't look rusty last time I examined it (but then when does a BX look rusty?)

Well remembered Ghosty.

There is indeed a new shell in triton green at work with a 23k 1.9d limp in that doesn't run properly, oh and it has no windscreen. ..

Just got in contact with the guy who posted this on the BX forum originally and apparently the white one may not be as bad as first imagined. So that's promising. Doesn't start though...

I've heard that the Escort Chairman van may be for sale too, but not free. I mentioned that it may get interest on 'some forums' so once I have an idea of price I'll try and get some better photos for you lot.

Apparently it's only done 40k.

I had a silver BX GTI 4x4 back in the day.  I ran a short-lived website about them at the time as I didn't realise prior to purchase how rare they were (someone once told me only 310 or so RHD ones came here)

Sadly the one photo CD I had with the site and pics of the car seems to have gone AWOL.

Can't take these on, but lots of respect to anyone who can.

With that all said - having run both, I'd say that the 4x4 was my expectation of the ultimate BX - but the 2wd GTI was (IMHO) much better.

My 4x4 came with an invoice for transfer box repairs of over £900 - and it was going again.  The speedo only ever worked briefly in my ownership, due to increasing play in the diff!

I had a G reg GTi 4x4. Front CV failed.

Drove it home (gently) by locking the centre diff and having a RWD BX GTi...
