£100 Fuego bought - needs trailering Devon to Yorkshire - HELP!!

Hi everybody,

It is with great excitement I can confirm that I was first on the phone to the gent who is selling this wonderful bargain.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C900247

I have agreed terms to buy, and I am the preferred bidder! Fuego ownership is a lifelong ambition of mine which might, just might, finally happen for me.

That is if I can find a cost effective way to trailer her oop North to West Yorkshire! Anybody know anyone who could shift this beauty for a fair price? I'm guessing £400 plus on Shiply....

Help.......someone........anyone!!!

What you really need is to catch KruJoe on his way down south with a loaded trailer, and no plans for the backload... ;)

You should be able to get it shifted for about a quid a mile on shiply

I take it certain fellow forumites think this is a bad idea - in the true spirit of this poor man's forum, I shall arise to the challenge and do it anyway.....hurrah!!!

Why is it, that every time I think I achieved win, somone comes along and kicks me right back to the place that evidently is designated for me?

I'm outclassed.

Not by a narrow margin, too.

We don't think it's a bad idea, just something of a challenge!

This weekend, the GGG was closer to that South Molton, Morocco, than we wished to be, although it all counts toward climate improvement.

As much as I would like to be in a position to help you getting that heap near civilisation, I'm afraid it is beyond even my realm.

There are two things I suggest you to consider.

1. Self drive beavertail hire, something the GGG did in the past: http://www.transporterhire.co.uk/locations/car_transporter_hire_Leicester.php

2. Temporary storage at the Junktowers completely free of charge.

Then again, why don't we just hire a trailer and tow it up using the Junk405?

Improve the Climate further by using the Green Lean Machine to A-frame it.  If there is no tow hitch, just put the Renault in the boot trunk.

Haha funny bastard!

In the (un)likely event I buy a car tomorrow, I'll be able to tow in the near future. If so and JM can't get it the whole way for any reason I'll happily relay it, being conveniently placed halfway between Stockport and West Yorkshire.

Being the custodian of large quantities of rusty Regie steel already the perfectly normal reaction of most people to the temptation of more of the same would be to seek medical attention or voluntary sectioning; this is AS so the correct answer is always moar renner.

I haven't seen one in years, I loved them when I was a kid. Pics needed once you get it.

Swillington trailer hire do a tilt bed transporter/trailer rental for £48 a day. I've been looking into them to move H.Imps shite around.

I hired one from them years ago to move a VW van from stockport to leeds. Were the proper kit, with hand winch etc. IIRC you have to supply your own tie down straps, or buy them from them.

Given you passed your test after 1997 you might struggle to tow much, unfortunately :( Or need to be careful on the weights at the very least.

Max total weight 3,500 kg IIRC.

Tow vehicle and trailer combined.

My son did the test so he could tow with a transit, you then get 3,500 tow vehicle + 3,500 trailer

Edit, it seems you can go over the 3500 combined limit by towing an up to 750kg trailer with a transit,

But that won't help ghosty.

B+E licence you need for most shite deliveries, or be very old like me.

Have checked the distance, looking around 600 mile round trip depending where in W Yorks you live,

so  unfortunately I'm out.

How heavy is a fuego? A car trailer is a hefty bit of kit too, doesnt leave much for towcar. Junkmans 405 and hired trailer sounds a plan.

I am very close to where the car lives if I can be of any help.

I don't really have a suitable vehicle to tow it all the way to Yorkshire (my Hiace would tow it but very slowly and I do not own a car trailer, plus the weight combo is probably excessive on my licence), happy to do anything I can to assist though.

Hired beavertail sounds like the way to go.

I'd rather go the hire transporter route, since trailers are made by the Beelzebub and should be avoided like the clap.

Can you drive a loaded beavertail on a car licence?

Provided the whole lot including the load is under 3500 i think. On my license anyway

I can drive any loaded beavertail.

Mr. Conelrad was allowed to drive this:

Then you must know how shit it is.

Besides, I'm pretty sure a Fuego on a trailer outweighs the permitted towing mass of a 405.

Edit: Just checked and the maximum towing capacity of a 405 is 1200 kg.

If its a licencing restriction then its the max plated weight that counts - eg if the car has a max gross weight of 1800KG and the trailer has a max permissible laden weight of 2000KG then you're over even if the trailer is only loaded with helium balloons - even the lightest car trailers tend to be rated to 1800KG minimum so it doesn't leave much margin, most will put you over on a standard licence

If you have a B+E licence then its the actual weight being carried that counts and you can't exceed the tow cars max train weight.

I'd vote for the transporter hire too for that distance - or 'get a guy in' to do it.

I would carry it home on my back to get a Renault Fuego Turbo for £100!

After all this chatter I fully expect to see a collection thread/AMM day trip to Devon this weekend!

Just pay someone to do it and have a lie-in while they fuck about dodging VOSA and swearing at Google maps.
