Grand Espace 3.5 V6. Alas, sold on Gumtree.

I'm trying hard to make this work. Insurance is the only stumbling block as I have zero no claims.

This is the cheapest quote so far, which is a lot of money obvs but isn't horrific compared to the £1280 I was quoted last month for an early 2000s Suzuki Ignis which was worth about the same as a half eaten packet of Chewits.

I'll continue shopping around and if I can get it around £800/900 then I'll be PMing cash in your face forthwith.

Have you thought about a small van instead Bucketeer? Van insurance is about half price compared with car insurance for me.

Interesting to know. I've been thinking a lot about vans recently but any that are eligible for classic insurance are generally expensive and/or knackered.

I currently pay under £300 for two cars on a classic policy, which is why I can't face over a grand for something, even if it's a glorious V6 racing bus.

I'll have a look at 'normal' insurance van quotes though, ta.

I reckon it's being in Bulgaria/etc too long and your credit rating is minimal/non-existent. This is for me on a zero NCB policy with 6k p/a and SDP&C. Have you got your partner on the policy? That makes a big difference. Try having one of your parents on too.

Does credit rating come in to it then? I've never had a mortgage, loan or credit card so mine is completely non existent.

I don't think it can, Bucketeer....I have a credit rating equivalent to a Swiss re-finance house but no NCB despite living a cloistered UK existence for 58 years.   Too many years of classic policies led to me being quoted £1600 for a Fiesta Zetec....

Managed to get it down to £350 but even so......

How did you get the price down? Shopping around? Adding people to the policy? Offering 'favours'?

EDIT - The first attempt at adding the girlfriend on to the policy resulted in a cheapest quote of £1850.

Others on here have found it. If you use fake details you get a way higher quote than using genuine details. I.e. if you can't be found in the financial systems.

Also certain vehicles are more expensive to insure than some may realise, as they're assessed for risk. E.g. newer small vehicles can be expensive because they tend to be a young or nervous drivers car and so more likely to be in an accident.

TL;DR they use loads of factors to assess risk.

Yeah, just shopping around.....The £1600 was from my classic car broker.    I played the market, got it around £500-600 and finally went to Just Kampers who already insure my camper van.   I could have monkeyed around - Mrs Rocker has NCB and her Merc is classic eligible for instance but I am never happy bending the truth where insurance is concerned.

Like I said - cloistered existence!

Pm on the way

Not had a PM as yet...?

Couple of other things I forgot -

  • it's a Grand Espace so it's the bigger one (~6in longer than the standard Espace).
  • There are six seats with it, not seven (all the Initiales came with six seats for some reason) though of course a seat off ebay will go in it fine to make a 7 seater. I've been using it as a 5 seater with a big boot.

I know exactly where you are. Literally really near the train station and on a road named as the same as a small village near me! (Cryptic to avoid giving where you live away exactly). Probably about 15 minute cycle ride away...

I'd love it but I've been given a big

from the other half when she just overlooked my shoulder. A pretty accurate representation of her reaction too.

Like for the other half reaction as I get the same when she walks past the screen when I'm looking at threads like this :)

I am resisting every urge in my being to buy this. I’m in Birmingham at the moment visit family for New Years and this would be starting 2018 as I mean to go on....

My own one is past it now. It’s got that many issues that it will realistically probably never see the road again. I do still go out for a hoon around the lanes every now and then because something so huge that moves so quickly never fails to make me grin from ear to ear.

Long time no see! You won't get one as cheap as this for a long time.

Going by the location of djoptix pictures, you could do this:

c8a970bb1c1bdd74e82cc5a05846cf9c.jpg

And only have a 5 minute or so walk from the train station. There is a cash machine at the train station and £500 should be possible to extract without going to a bank.

Couldn't be easier.

^ well this is exactly why I’ve tried to limit my time on these pages. Temptation is all around!!

This was touted to me by a mate saying “I don’t think you’d forgive me if I didn’t tell you about this”.

I have to be back in Belfast Wednesday night at the latest... off to check Stena to see if this can be done, and reasonably.

Check before travelling. I have three bonk accounts and only one of them had the £500 withdrawal limit set. HSBC required a few keystrokes from a nice man on a workstation.

Anyway, this is gr9 value. The old me would have bought this - but I’m cutting down violently on cars.

I almost bought this but sanity* prevailed and I bought a beaten ex police LDV instead. A 250bhp people carrier makes the whole idea of this EGV ( Espace a Grand Vitesse) grin inducing.

Nationwide used to £350 limit. I've moved money across using internet banking and use several cards before which has done the trick.

I've just looked at the newly posted pics and had to log out and have a crisis.

Somebody somewhere must have the holy trinity of Espace/velsatis/the big 2 door one whose name escapes me

Avantime.

R9UKE is your man for that. Not only does he have all of them mentioned, he has several of each - including some that are spares cars! Basically living the dream.

Spares cars are a must - otherwise it becomes one bloody big nightmare very very quickly!!!
