SiC Posted January 29, 2018 Author Posted January 29, 2018 Maybe I might manage it to Tebay sister services - Gloucester Services. Once I get the fuel tank fixed though... I literally have zero idea how much is left in there. I put another 10 litres in the other day, but the gauge didn't move and stayed the same, at just over empty. After the drive yesterday it dropped just under empty. Not sure if that's because the float has sunk even more or if it is nearly empty. Possibly the gauge may even be broken.

captain_70s Posted January 29, 2018 Posted January 29, 2018 You'll know when you've run out of fuel because it'll stop running.This. Old cars never have a working fuel gauge, the 1850 ran out while displaying 1/4 full, the 1300 sits at 1/2 for about 200 miles and then plummets to empty and will then either do another 100 miles or none at all. Nothing inbetween. Louise2cv, richardthestag and DeeJay 3

Just sayin'...Today I was stuck in traffic just after the Clyde Tunnel (40 mins to get from there to Anniesland Cross, fuck my life) and a MGB roadster trunddled by in the opposite direction! Owner was in the proper attire, a leather flying jacket, but he did have the roof up... If he was out today in the sleet at 5C IN Scotchlund in his shit BLMC heap you've got no excuse.
SiC Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 If he was out today in the sleet at 5C IN Scotchlund in his shit BLMC heap you've got no excuse. True. Unlike your BL shit heap, at least mine has an MOT and road legal (for now). Whats happening with that btw? Have the garage actually put it in yet? I'm actually feeling good about it right now and quite up for going for another blast. My anxiety is still pretty high, but subdued a bit. Unfortunately at the moment when I get back from work its late and I'm tired. Being on flexi-time, naturally if I got up earlier and into work earlier, I could go home earlier and actually in the daylight! Maybe I'll try that tomorrow... alf892 1

Have the garage actually put it in yet? They put it on the rollers in advance and confirmed the handbrake was still far too shit to pass an MOT so I've left it with with them to fuck about with. I suspect I've somehow managed to adjust the rear drums wrongly although the front calipers needs freeing off as well so they're doing the lot...My main concern is now its not venting 70% of it's exhaust fumes into the engine bay it might struggle to pass the emissions test... Also when its cold it only runs on three... Also the ignition timing is still set by ear... And the carb isn't set at all... And the choke cable still doesn't work so you need to wedge the linkage against the air filter with a screwdriver... And the N/S front suspension squeaks like a bitch at low speeds. It's all really rather ironic as the Civic also has a non-functioning handbrake but nobody gives a shit 'cause I got a bit of paper about 3 months ago saying it's fine. Also unlike the Triumph you can't park it in gear and expect it to be in the same location when you get back. As I found out when I was walking away and heard a creaking behind me, turned around to see the Civic easing itself down a hill despite being in reverse... As I said NO EXCUSE. My modern is more broken than your MG! CGSB 1
SiC Posted January 31, 2018 Author Posted January 31, 2018 I think it has to be pretty bad before it would fail emissions if can't be fixed by adjusting the carb. The cold startup issues shouldn't affect an MOT either. Carb tinkering I'm sure they must be capable of if they aren't fresh out of college - remember SU carbed cars and the like were common in the 90s and early 00s as daily transports. Also at least you only have one carb to rebuild/service and tune! So fingers crossed. Once you get your MOT though it should make tinkering and fixing much easier, as you can easily move it to somewhere more flat and suitable. Even though I don't have a garage (well I do, but its no usable for working on cars in), just having a roughly flat bit of tarmac is incredibly useful. alf892 1

I did the mistake of putting the roof down in those temps once, the entire back window cracked. It should only be down after a decent drive the warm the pastic up to make it flexible. captain_70s 1
busmansholiday Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 The great advantage of going for a run after work is that if the dash lights don't work the only thing you have to worry about is the speed cameras. The roadsters fuel gauge never gets above half, even when full. After a few years of ownership you'll look back and laugh at yourself worrying about all these silly things.

SiC Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 Ah yes. I saw that on another Facebook group yesterday. Don't worry, I'm already in conversation with the chap. He's unfortunately busy this week, otherwise I'd already be off looking at it!
Mally Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Does look a good one that if yellows your thing.
purplebargeken Posted February 1, 2018 Posted February 1, 2018 Inca Yellow is bloody ace. Si, want to come over in the MG? We can beat the tank sender into submission with bits of Dolomite I have hanging round.
