If I got it cheap, would someone else be prepared to buy it off me if my wife threatens divorce?

I'm actually serious here

A grand, but no more I'd say. Unless it floats your boat.

Budgeting £200 for transportation, I'd rather take a punt on one more local by low-balling.

Bid £1028 with 8 seconds remaining to flush out the £1000 bidders.

fuck this is more stressful than a live colleshun fred

3mins to go, is you in?

Sic wasn't gonna buy it ! He's just teasing '

I didn't spend this long choosing a bloody wife !

Maybe that's where I went wrong

I would have had it for £800. Hell I would have had it for £1020 if it was local(ish). I was keeping an eye on it until the last 5 minutes when a colleague came over and I had to do work stuff.

I was going out with my girlfriend for over 10 years before I decided to get engaged...

You know when you're leaving it a bit long when even your mum tells you to "just marry that poor girl".

I do think the 'Rev way' is a good idea though.. buy a tatty one for £nexttonowt with as long an MoT as possible.

Rag it about, doing the work it needs to make it reliable.

When/ if it fails its next test, either flog it on with minimal loss or if you're in love with it, start a rolling restoration.

Besides, a tatty one is so much cooler than a shiny/ perfect/ 'beard in a field' special, no?!

It is a bit ridiculous this thread has got to 14 pages and I still haven't bought one yet.

Fair enough keeping her hanging on.

But not fair expecting us to.

Agreed, a proper Shiter would have bought one, had a FTP on the collection trip, carried out some fairly major engine work, sold it on to another AS member for a loss and replaced it with a FSO Polonez by now.

Crikey, 14 pages and you haven't test driven one yet, let alone bought one! Would sir prefer something a little milder?

I conclude that you are too rational and cautious for a BL sports car and the MGB you would actually be happy with is a Porsche 924. Which, btw you'd get a way better example for the equivalent money.

Cheaper, less rust, more durable, more economical, better handling and more interesting but at the same time less characterful. And less emblazoned fleece and beard ftw.

Posted

Just give me a grand for my 216 and get on with some slightly more modern BL tat with a lot less rust....

Even I've managed to find a car in my cheap modern boring car thread. Come on man step it up :)

Warm up those bidding fingers

Went past the garage with the orange one this evening. Saw this beauty in their yard.

A few grot spots coming on the orange one now.

I still think it's really cool! My best mate who I wandered around there with wasn't particularly interested in it though. He seem far more taken by the E-type and classic Mustangs they had in the front window...

Seeing that red one with the dodgy bumper tomorrow. Will see what they're prepared to take for a quick & easy sell instead of going through eBay.

You really need to drive one and see if you like it.I hankered after an mg midget for years, done all my research and one  came up locally with really low miles so i thought thats ideal to have a  test drive in.

I hated it,just like sitting in a bath.Yuk

Just come back after a few days off here and can't believe this thread's still going. You keep being drawn back to the local orange one, like it's got your name on it. I'd say just go for it. OK it's probably not the best example out there but with a bit of luck you'll have a laugh tooling around in it for the rest of the summer with minimal expenditure. After that take a view and take a hit and get rid if necessary. It's what I did with mine. You'll at least have got it out of your system. OK it's not sound financial sense, but then neither is buying any car.

Took a look at this one this evening: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272754496809

A pile of shit compared to what I've seen. Buggered roof, fucked seats (gave me a bad back) and really shit welding on the underside. The seller gave me a drive around which was fun. I had a run around the block too, enjoyed it.

Decided that Red one off AutoTrader was by far the best I've seen and most honest - also a bargain. He dropped it a couple of days ago to £2.5k too. Went to look on Autotrader on my phone to contact him, go over and buy it immediately. Gone. Fuck. Dropped the guy a text as I still had his number. He replied - it sold this afternoon.

Fuck fuck fuck fuck.

Feeling pretty deflated right at this moment. :(

That's what a long dilly-dallying thread does for ya.
