Happy 40th Birthday Porsche 924!

Gr8 handling cars, mine really surprised me.

I never really fancied 911's growing up, just 924's and 944's.

Every year I say that I'm going to buy one of these.

I've had a few of things now

I rate them very much.  I'd love a good early one as a daily smoke.

My old 944S continues on...

Owned since 1994, the fair wife and I have covered a quarter of a million miles in it.

My old 1980 manual I sold about 2 years ago, it's still local. Rust free though lightly battered....

These seem like a fantastic introduction to Porsche ownership. The good ones certainly seem to have crept up in price.

I've had 3 944s but would love a 924, it'd need to be the van small engined one for me though

Spookily (and controversially for this thread) it was only yesterday that I was pontificating how the front wheel drive Porsches of the 80's have tainted the Porsche brand for me due to their association wih Yuppies and all the 'orrible greed is good stuff of that era.

I want a brown one. Much better than a 911 for actually being usable.

That reminds me - I really need to take mine out for a spin again to check it still works...

Ooh, no rear spoiler! My favourite. Tell us more about it, Alusilber.

Friend of mine ran one for years, in total shite spec - metallic browny-red with the 3-speed auto. It was a very late 2-litre one with the 5-bolt Turbo wheels. I think the gearbox blew up in the end and it was scrapped sadly. Looking at the MOT history (it had the quality private plate of 924 NNY) it was properly knackered.

?

Sorry I got a bit carried away - I meant front engined... (still don't like them though)

It's a fairly original 1981 924 Lux manuel with deep-bolster "sports" seats - alas, not Pasha but Berber tweed and good old vinyl. Seems to have led a sheltered life, with almost no dash cracks and no significant rot (that I've discovered so far...). Wheels seem to have been repainted at some point but don't look too bad from a distance.  Suffers from a very rough cold idle but otherwise drives quite well (at least the last time I took it out of the garage...)
