Dollywobbler's Omegawd - Cruisin' (old people can do it too)

This is DW, not WW, so it'll be a few more days yet.

I'm really baffled about what's gone wrong to be honest. It was running very sweetly sans inlet manifold. Now it isn't. I am starting to feel glad that I didn't get the seals last weekend though! I could be in a cold car park trying to do this!

Decided to gently step backwards. Took off the inlet manifold, gave it a run, bag of crap! Loosened the pump bolts again, 'adjusted' it with a hammer handle (as per the recommendations) and as soon as I reached the sweet spot, it went from lumpy, surging, horrible to super-sweet and consistent. I bolted it down tight, which had it mithering again, so I adjusted it a little more, and it's now lovely! A bloody mucky job, and I lost one of the manifold nuts and had to replace it with a 13mm (they're 12mm head) and a washer. Dead chuffed though! No more stink of diesel, and I'm sure it goes better too.

Quick query for those who might know. The EGR valve has fittings for two hoses. Nowt was connected at all when I took it apart, but I've connected one black-with-blue pipe up to the likely connector. Any idea where the other pipe should be?

Tomorrow, I'm hoping to give the thing a darned good clean. I seriously need to give it a service too, but that won't be happening this weekend - no bits.

EGR normally connects somewhere on the exhaust to somewhere on the intake, should be an obvious hole/blocked hole for it. I'd just block it off, it's bollocks to make the engine run worse.

There's a big stainless pipe to do that. I did block it off with a penny, but that was when it was misbehaving, so I took it back out again (though it wasn't to blame). The fact one side of it ended up filthy black with about a minute of engine running did rather confirm the fuelling was out though...

Ordered up some service items from GSF. Bloody thrilled that I can now just jump in this car and go for a drive, without pissing diesel everywhere!

pretend you are a train and lay some clag down for the locals

You are a fucking nutter.

Thanks.

In the best possible way, of course! No offence intended.

I saw a transit recently where I suspect the bonnet release cable had snapped. It looked like the bonnet had been levered open with a pick axe.

Transits that I know, bonnet opens with the key. Doesn't always work though!

The woes continue! Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Omega's battery was dead again this morning. I ran it for over 15 minutes yesterday, but that clearly hadn't been enough. I jump started it with the Nippa, chucked the leads in the Omega and drove 12 miles into town. Would that be enough?

After battling the shitty wiper-blade computer at Halfords (it didn't work), I returned to the car to be greeted by this happy scene.

I then did a little food shopping, came back to the car and discovered that it would not start. Again. UGH!

The lady with the Panda kindly gave me a jump, so I'll forgive her gatecrashing our 1990s party. Took a longer drive home, during which the EGR valve clamp fell off. Good grief. It drove ok, so I just kept going.

I think I need a battery conditioner, to see if I can revive both the battery on the Omega, and the one on the 2CV. They're both a bit flaky at the moment.

I must say it was really nice of Fred Flintstone to loan you his bonnet prop, I hadn't realised he was a neighbour

It's still the weekend, euro car parts will have 30% off, even if you just reserve it online now and collect in the week

For full Council points you need a secondhand undersized battery from a Fiesta secured with a block of wood and a bungee strap.

That's annoying. I was sure GSF had a 50% off deal this weekend. Could I find the code? No. Got a mere 25% discount on my service bits.

Really don't want to fork out for a new battery though. At least not until next pay day anyway.

If you're doing an 'our cars' type thing for a Kelsey title, see if you can just blag one.

Failing that, scrapyards charge a tenner for a decent 12 volter. A shagged battery won't to the alternator much good...?

Thinking out loud, I've got a good BigBastard battery from a Ovlov S60 diesel, yours for a crisp twenty. It's in Notts though, if you're traversing from Wales to Boghorro.

Thanks. Not sure I'm heading your way anytime soon, though I'll be on the road for photoshoots in the coming weeks. Not entirely sure where yet...

Forgot to mention the other niggle with the electrics. Clicking relays. It reminds me of when my XM's indicator stalk got all clagged up. I wonder if it could even be the same issue? End result is a relay under the steering column that goes into full-on hyper mode if I hit bumps, corner with enthusiasm and/or brake. But only when it's damp. Would be nice to sort that out. Did have a look at the fusebox earlier, but it only does it while I'm driving along, so I didn't learn much. Did prod some fuses, which has made the stereo work again.

Which reminds me. Discovered a sub-woofer built into the passenger side of the boot! BASS. Doing some reading up, it seems this Bose system shouldn't work with an aftermarket head unit. Well, it does. I even risked some Radio 1 (briefly!) just to feel what actual bass feels like in a car. I've only encountered that level of bass in a car once before - an E46 330Ci. Must get some pipe organ music onto CD ASAP...

Mucho resulto on the pump re-seal job.  I've enjoyed the videos, thankyou!

I'd also like to join the queue of people willing to take this big old bus off your hands when you're done with it  :-)

As reported before the server FTP, the Omega had a mighty FTP again today. I've given in. New battery on order.

A car like that probably doesn't like low voltage, probably best to lob a battery on before worrying about anything else
