That doesnt sound like a failed thermostat to me mind.

Sounds like a little plastic grommit stuck in the theromstat housing surely?

Not a proper collection thread unless we see the soundproofing under the bonnet........

Congrats on your four miles. Could be worth towing the bastard back to the swine who sold it to you, and giving them an uninterrupted monologue of your emotions. I guess they could argue that they only ever drove it on three mile round trips.

Edit: I see it's the Hodna engined version, so that'll be the problem. Looks tidy in the sale shots, mind.

Four miles? At least you don't have to walk far to strangle the shyster who flogged it.

Ah bugger.

Can all be fixed. Welcome to autoshiteing. You got in early there, promising future ahead.

I hope it's something really simple/easily resolved, it's shit news for your first car otherwise.

Possibly. And dont call me shirley.

Well the bottom of the rad is cold and the expansion tank is pressurising, check engine light comes on. Old Man generally knows what he's on about.

Seems it's been holed up a while, service book stamped to 50k (it's on 55) but said 50k was in 2008.

Flat paint on the roof, and I need two mirror glasses and some matching tyres (3 Goodyear Eagles with mismatched tread and a cheap one).

Has an airbag, didn't expect that.

Doesn't smell of smoke, the seller said it was 'heavily smoked in'.

Issues aside it's great.

Ah shit. What's the headgasket problems like on the Honda lump? Usually only hear of k series failure. Here's to hoping it's a blockage or clogged thermostat

Posted

AA verdict: blocked radiator or water pump (apparently done recently mileage wise). Needs recommissioning.

Car is being recovered home, we're back in the A4.

Nice to see a rover in its natural resting pose. Best of luck with the return leg, plus being towed home saves fuel. Win!

I hope they do a better job of transporting your Rover...

Bad luck. We've all had a collection go wrong. Sometimes more than one...

Do not like.

Maybe we can hold the next Northern Powerhouse at your gaff and have a collective go at fixing it?

That's bad news, I'd respectfully suggest a polite email or phone call later to tell him what happened. If he's got anything about him he might try and help out or something.

I was hoping to congratulate you for the successful purchase and collection of your first car, but it isn't looking too good so far.

But if you discount the breakdown, that is a pretty good first car. 1.6, fuel injection, wood trim, sunroof, Junkman approved gearbox; any 90s junior sales-rep would have bitten your arm off for that. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to get sorted out and brought along to the next AS meet up.

With the free tow home I'd call that a result! Give the system a flush and maybe a new stat and see how you get on.

As it's been standing a while, that's not a bad plan.  Then, an Italian tune-up.

Constantly.

I'll post some better pics when it gets home. Will be checking rad, stat and so on. It's bloody great when it works though, pleased with the spec, colour, comfort... it's all great.

Sounds a plan. I'm free tomorrow

It was a valiant attempt. My new six sided £1 coin is on waterpompe.

Just guessing though.

Looks like an absolute cracker from all the angles mind. Very easy on the eye.
