Dollywobbler's clearout - Subaru must go

I'm suffering the need for some serious Fleet Adjustment, so up for grabs we have:

1995 Subaru Legacy Estate 2.0GL. MoT until Oct, now taxed until September. 70k miles, full service history! I'm only the third owner, some dents and dings, rusty (bolt-on) front wings. was £795 now £550 including the tax.

1966 Rover 2000SC. Series 1 so blingy looks. Has had a respray at some point but panels are all good (apart from dented front wing) and the base unit is remarkably solid with no apparent welding at all. MoT until Feb 2010 and free road tax. Driver's seat has split a bit but otherwise very sound inside, and the mileage could be genuine at 29,500 miles. One ticky valve gap and a blowy exhaust are the downsides. £SOLD.

Your barking regarding getting rid of the P6... Totally tonto. And if i had the money (etc etc and other unuseful comments Ian...)

The Rover just isn't hitting the spot. It's nice - very nice in fact. But probably too nice for me. This has all been set off by me driving a Wartburg 353 yesterday and falling in love. I think I'm just genetically inclined to drive tiny engined motors that most people think are really shit.

mine is same colour and shape but with roof bars and alloys 1997 reg paid £850 for mine so this one is a bargain

Thanks. It's a bloody good tool, but it's time for a change. Very quiet on the move and on an Easter trip to Devon, we even got it to nudge 32mpg!Both cars have had a full set of new tyres this year too.

Nuffin wrong with small engines fella.... :D

My life seems to be tinkering with small shite, everyone thinks I am mad because I dont work on big engines, its almost shite is from Mars and non shite is from Venus

OHH Hello everyone Posted Image

Speaking of small engines, bought this yesterday for £250 MOT'd and TAX'd runs fine, just needs front pipe and drivers window sorting:

Excellent! What a cheap Matiz. Owned one brand new. Loved it. (but naturally, got bored with it after 18 months). Cracking cars, if a little understeery...That's an SE Plus though - four speakers, eleccy windows and central locking. I had none of these goodies...

Wow, another fan of two-stroke cars! Glad to see I'm NOT the only 2-stroker on AS! Any information re: the Wartburg would be appreciated. We might gain another recruit for the club!Andrew353w

Already recruited mate - t'was Simon the PR bloke! Had a play in this rather lovely machine... (full report in CCW next week - sneak preview!)

That Wartburg is truly a thing of beauty. 8) 'S funny how everyone seems to think Legacys are gas-guzzlers - I've had three, and they've been just as economical as anything else of similar size and performance that I've had. They make surprisingly entertaining track day cars too, with an amusing line in lift-off oversteer. :D

Posted

The Legacy usually seems to average 29mpg - which isn't bad for something with four wheel drive AND gearing that's typically Japanese - pretty short. Never took it around a track - maybe I should keep it and turn it into a track machine!

ive had some good times since i bought my legacy thrashing bmw,s around town twats think they own the road wait til mines better then its going to be treated to full valet and new tyres

That wartburg is lush 8) Saw it at a show last july. Prefer it on alloys though

As my wife would say, That car's a pretty colour!Looks very nice though and you have no risk of parking next to one in Tesco's nether!Mind you i like your Rover too, Shame it's a SC and not a TC though, Mind you £1195 sounds like a very fair price to me.What make a nice runner for the weekdays and show car at weekends.Very tempting.

Yeah, the Rover's a decent ol' barge. Just not my cup of tea unfortunately. Wish I'd realised that before spending over £1400 recommissioning the thing mind... (yes, I think it will be rather good value to the buyer!)

Well, someone hopefully coming to look at the Subaru tomorrow. They'd better turn up, I've spent an hour cleaning it - even doing anal things like wiping over the engine bay and doing all the door gaps. Looks bloody good now! I was going to take a photo but 'meh' got the better of me.

An hour? IS THAT ALL!I can merrily spend six or seven hours cleaning, polishing etc and still not be satisfied with the result.

I don't really do car cleaning. My lot are lucky if they catch sight of a bucket and sponge, let alone actually get cleaned. I find it too depressing because you become very intimate with all the crusty bits that you can forget about when you're driving. But this time, the Subaru even got the wax treatment! Funnily enough, I don't get through that very quickly...Oh crap. I've lift the lid off! BRB...

My "east European" car washers wash my Wartburg, FSO and Lada for half price, 'coz it makes them feel homesick... I feel a punchline coming up, but I'm not going to go there...Andrew353w

Posted

I was off to a show in my Lada and wanted a quick hoover out, so popped into one of those wash places. They hoovered it thoroughly, took out all the mats, jet washed them and wiped all the door vinyl. ...£3.I gave them a fiver and said keep the change!

Posted

They come over here, washing our cars for reasonable rates.... WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE??? :P I used my local Mr Shiny Wash or whatever it's called, totally staffed by eastern europeans. Bloody good job they made of it, even had one guy chase after me as I drove off to give me an air freshner!

Posted

Bollocks. I wouldn't trust those shifty albanians as far as I could throw them (not very). Anyone who teams a sensible jumper with tracksuit trousers in the UK today is inherently untrustworthy.(^JKS^)Actually, it because they always leave streaky bits, and I don't know what that 'stuff' is they spray out of weedkiller pumpers is.... and because I am sad enough to enjoy carrying out such dull tasks myself....

I'm with Pog - I love cleaning cars, I thought all car enthusiasts did? No wonder your allways welding Ian  Doing the shuts is an everytime thing young man!, I hope you peeled the windscreen rubbers back

Posted

Dear God no! Sorry but there's no pleasure to be derived from cleaning a car - especially when you live in the sticks like I do, so the very first drive after a wash always results in the car being filthy again in no time. Subaru buyer has 'rescheduled' so I checked over the 2CV and discovered that the suspension is dangerously FUBAR'D, so that was nice. New parts have been ordered but it's now in the garage, unuseable and in the way. Doh!

I've still got the Subaru and Rover for sale (though hoping for a phonecall on the Rover tomorrow...)I'd really, REALLY like to get rid of the Subaru. I feel it's standing in the way of me getting something a bit more classic. I'd take £750 and I'd include the tax. Just hand me the shite-purchasing tokens and drive away!Or offer me a swap for something more interesting. The Subaru is just a bit too bland and far too competent at what it does for my liking. Which is why we took the 2CV to Northumberland.
