That looks mega!

You must be over the moon with it. Just think of what you COULD have come back with.

Great to see that brick putting another shift in too. It really is time that it had its own thread. Its seen some top chod that brick.

There are actually two bricks as the Renault has one underneath it!

"Unpretentious... Can't be... faulted"

Not my words Carol, the words of the Automobile Association.

Thanks for that, interesting read. I have many old car magazines however I don't appear to have a Maestro diesel test.

Looks factory fresh. I'm led to believe the 'Urbo' model was a limited edition run as well. Who needs a Maxi when you've scored this honey.

Nice, hopefully that tailgate rattle shouldn't be too difficult to get sorted out.

That looks very similar to one that I sometimes see in town. It always seems rather odd whenever I see one on such a late plate, almost as if they were too old to have been "new" in an era of Peugeot 406s and Ford Mondeos; not that I am complaining, it provides something interesting to see.

Edit: Found a picture of it.

That's a Ledbury I think, theorganist's is about as late as "real" Maestros get.

If you ever raffle this, I'll have 1-58 and buy no. 59 for my dog.

I hate to spoil the VW kicking party, but its a Honda 'box built under licence.  See PG1.

Yes the VW gearbox was fitted to the 1.3 and I guess the 1.6?

The gearbox is very light and precise, it's a pleasant and smooth car to drive.

It does sound great, I love the sound of an old school diesel, these modern ones sound so anaemic!

Then do have a proper clatter to them, somewhat diluted when they went to two-stage injection.  Still, its lovely.

Modern diesels are shit in comparison, aside from my TD5, but then thats not a million miles different. The 2.2 HDi lump in my Freelander 2 is just noise in comparison.

The 'box oil is worth changing, from memory they'll use either semi-synthetic or something specific depending on MY.  Check and change, thats my advice.

Almost literally reverse engineered isn't it?

Aye, due to counter clockwise rotation or something.  Oh and Rover took out some of the quality, just to make it suitably different from the Honda version.

The company has, quite frankly, shit on you there.

I bet you and your missus must have just sat down and cried wondering what you'd done to deserve it

I think he doesn't hang his jacket up in the back anymore and lays it down across the back seat.

I'm sorry you've not met your targets this year, we've ordered you a Maestro. If you could leave the keys to the Cavalier CDI please.

That is mega Pete. Must try it out. You sounded quite enthusiastic about it when I spoke to you today, sadly I didn't get to see it even though I passed right by the bottom of your road! (Near where that really nice E34 is)

I also spotted a fantastically clean White MG Metro in town where I dropped off the van.

I shall pop down to Bewdley during the break and you can try it out. It has some issues but seems basically sound.

Interesting re the Metro, I haven't seen it around. We do have an interesting selection of old stuff in Stourbridge. There is a chap round the corner with an Allegro and a Maxi. I have also seen a LHD Renault 4 and Citroen Dyane.
