How did you discover Autoshite?

Bought a campervan off Danblez via RR. This place came up in conversation with him, never looked back!

Like many, a reference to 'the brown' on Mr Bollox Maserati thread.

I was at a particularly low point in life when I discovered this place and my first few hours of reading made me laugh more than I had in months.

I can't remember how I found this place, probably from Retro Rides, but I'm very glad I did, I feel "at home" here. Can't believe I've been a member for over ten years! I don't post a lot but I feel like I fit in here. I used to try to be fairly active on Retro Rides but never really felt like I fitted in because I don't see the fascination with lowering and "stancing" cars to the point they are almost undriveable. Each to their own though, Retro Rides is ok for those that like their thing and most people are nice enough.

I'm also a refugee from the blue forum. I used to spend a lot of time there until the mid-'00s, but I had to move on because of my "scene" allergy.

Autoshite is like the online version of a 1970s working men's club. So it's the perfect place for someone as poor, cynical and unstylish as myself.

Via a link to the forum on the old Autoshite website.

Another for Rust in Peace.

The chap who edited that page was also one of the original three who started Autoshite.

I signed up and waited. And waited. And waited. Then a couple of cars I had for sale appeared in the ebay tat thread.Pogweasel had posted them so I messaged him to get approval.Been here ever since.

You know, I honestly don't know. I was never on RR, I never bothered with PH, either.

I know my first few posts coincided with my Rover 800 ownership, but how long I was lurking before then I couldn't possibly guess.

I used to lurk on Readers Rides on the blue forum in about 2011/12, when there weren't as many spring-chopping idiots, but still quite a few. (As an aside I don't remember how I found it, but it was either a Migweb thread about a guy on a council estate building a Kadett B that the B3ta newsletter linked to once (?!) or Club Polo, which I probably found when looking for information on the mother's old 9N).

I used to just enjoy reading build threads, and I think mentions of the 'brown forum' by Bollox and Vulg are what eventually enlightened me. I lurked for about a year, and signed up in mid-2013.

I'm no closer to owning a car.

I found the forum Googling images of obscure cars and lurked here for a couple of years, on and off. Eventually, during a discussion of the Lancia Trevi on XJ40.com, China Tom suggested I would like Autoshite  and convinced me it was a good idea to join here.

I found this place after someone made a comment about my Renault Fregate having a diesel engine. I signed up to have a go back and have been here ever since. There is no where else like it and there are some really great cars on here but no one makes a fuss and there is no willy waving like some places. Where else can you win a Talbot Horizon for £6 a ticket !!!!!

Back in 2010 I was browsing the other general motoring forums and generally recoilling at what I found, so I googled 'shitcars.com' - nothing good, so stuck an e in there and woohoo!

I think I was looking for information on my granddads herald, and various references from the blue forum. didn't really post for a while, and still a low post count considering I've been here a few years..

I have an outrageous crush on Eccentric Richard and would follow him to the ends of the earth, but he came here instead.

Well according to stats I joined 28th July 2006 as xkjaguar, however lost/forgot my password when I emigrated and re-joined as xkjagnz, I think I first saw the site on sniffpetrol. Where does the time go!!

In my 2 incarnations I have less than 90 posts!!, Lazy twat averaging under 9 per year, anyone else as idle as that?

One day I ended up looking at people photographing shit old cars on Flickr, someone mentioned this place in the comments and it sounded like the place for me. Haven't looked back since!

From the OLLR Land Rover forum which was my main internet stop out before finding this place. Albertross and scruff were on there which must have been the link. OLLR has since imploded which is a shame. It used to be very busy. Now you're lucky to get two posts a week.

One day, someone will do a PhD research paper on forums. They grow and change with the membership, founders fall out and form rival forums, the critical mass and tipping point of member numbers etc.

There was that strange 'lock in' here. Can't remember how long it lasted, but it I quite liked it!

Hopefully, this place will continue to be what it is.

I'm fucked if I can remember how I found this strange place, wouldn't have been via wet wipes or pissflaps, I've a feeling it may have been linked on a welding forum when I was trying to find out if those newly available Chinese welders were any good. Never did find out.

I can't really remember, sure it was a link from something about some car I googled that led to the blue forum which then lead here.

As I've never personally owned a car newer than 1989 and full of similar people I thought I'd stick around, I've been a bit quiet lately though as I had sod all to say :-)

I came across Autoshite (in the biblical sense) when I was doing a bit of background googling into MG Maestros several yonks ago. At that time this place had a proper reception desk and there were people like Leonard Hatred and MilfordCubicle and Warren t claim and electric leyland posting, which sounded like characters out of a naff sitcom or were puns that I enjoyed and generally I found Autoshite quite relaxed and witty/amusing and reassuringly at odds with the rest of the world of car enthusiasm where money and power are important and create a tedious and distorted fetishy world that doesn't reflect the reality of car use or ownership, so I dipped in and out every now and then but only browsing.

It came up on Slotforum a while later via the excellent GarethJ and I popped over to have another look, which was about the time of the great Autoshite lock-in but there was a promise that might change so I joined up when that got sorted and have been posting inane self indulgent smart arse comments and incompetent mechanical larkings since then and havent been banned yet so will probably stick around for a while, even though it's not like it used to be.

Wish the wife would learn from this.

It's nice to know that I'm the reason that a few of you have joined! I'm trying to remember how it found the place now, I think it was from references over on RetroRides, I used to post a lot on there but I'm more of a standard car man than a modified one so i used to get a bit pissed off when i saw what yoofs were doing to their cars.

"The beige pages" were often mentioned on there and i was already aware of the forum from Electric Leylands excellent monthly rust in piece feature in Practical Classics but never visited until i stumbled across a link to here on RR back in 2008 now, I saw that the cars being posted were much more "me" so i lurked for a long while first.

Then one day i saw Pogweasel (god bless his soul) post a link to a Humber Super Snipe i was selling in the Ebay thread so i signed up so that i could comment on it and then I've been ever so slightly obsessed ever since, I think i spent almost all my free time here at one point!

One thing that I've always wanted to ask but never have, so 8 years later... What the hell was Mr Bo11ox's old signature photo all about?! It was a young lad and a Citroen Saxo, I always thought it was him!

Through randomly googling "Austin Allegro" one evening. I browsed through the "save the kit" sections and lurked for years, before actually joining.

Volksy gave me a shout.  And then Shitefest sealed the deal.  Great people in general!

Totally by accident! AS popped up as a "may like" on Tapatalk which I use to access Trucknet.

This is way more fun....
