And if someone could put these the right way up it would be appreciated thanks

There was one of these sat next to me in a traffic jam this morning. Full of people and kiddy seats though so little of the magnificent leather interior was visible.

I'm judging by the "external cooling system reserve tank" behind the drivers seat, the HGF diagnosis seems correct?

That is superb, that is a great colour, and the wood is a very nice touch too. That would definitely be a very nice place to spend your commute in. Well bought.

Remarkable!

That'll be damn near everlasting with the HG sorted. Well saved.

If I'd had all that water I'd have got home at 1am instead of 3.30 am on a flatbed.

I bow to your superior knowledge.

I like the tan leather!

I think it is more ear wax than tan.

Good score that. I had one (not an l&k) until the family outgrew it.

Brilliant cars.

It's kind of a London tan. I like it - it looks genuinely inviting together with the wood!

Is this the 1.9 pre-PD mechanical pump engine?

Got a head in the shed if you need it.

Done.

That interior is epic, reminds me of that other VAG platform estate, just needs a bit more browness.post-17414-0-71468100-1479029415_thumb.jpeg

That is an old style engine with a fuel pump/distributor system that supplies the high pressure fuel to the injectors at the correct time.

On a PD, the injector is combined with a high pressure pump and there is one for each cylinder.  Lobes on the cam shaft work each pump, hence the need for a PD specific engine oil as the cam loadings are high.  The injectors are fired electronically, there is an injector wiring loom in the cylinder head.

The PD engine has now been superceded by the common rail, as because there is finite time that the fuel is at a suitable pressure for injection and they cannot do the pollution reducing thing of having accurate multiple fuel injections per cycle or inject fuel post combustion to get the DPF up to temperature.

I'm sure on these there is an oil cooler thing attached to the filter housing which can give hgf symptoms, deffo check this before tearing the head off.

Ah, why did I think this was petrol?

Mine was pressurising the cooling system, definite head/head gasket problem. The previous owner had replaced the head gasket already 20k miles before. :(

Yup, that's a pre-PD mechanical jobbie. So, if you find it needs a head rather than just a gasket, come and fish around in my shed.
