He's the one who saved that beige Maestro from the Haverhill Vauxhall dealers skip at the weekend, I'm still not sure why you would have a save car thats been lifted with chains and is REALLY rough but each to their own.

When Foad placed the car in the auction it was still his possession? If so I would be deeply unhappy at my motor being treated like that.

Wonder what he paid for it, as he was only offering foad a ton for his running mot'd Lada.

PR exercise, Shirley. Reckon it'll sit for six months and then appear on eBay as 'The most famous Maestro known to man!', with a reserve of £1k.

Maybe.

Erm same here. Much coincidence?

Think it must be, can't see this chap trying to punt on a Matiz with more hits that Stevie Wonder.

At least top gear OWN the cars they wreck. This is the aspect causing most annoyance on my part, they showed little regard for someone else's shit. Imagine if the samara hadn't sold, FOAD would have been the one dealing with the propshaft hanging out.

I like dollywobblers videos, and would gladly lend him anything in my fleet as there is a sense he would treat it with respect and has some mechanical sympathy, something these clowns seem devoid of.

Quite right to be pissed. I would be thoroughly annoyed if this was my car they were ragging the shit out of without my permission.

Very unprofessional on the whole and definitely look to be trying to imitate Clarkson. The difference is, their target audience isn't the general public, so I'm not sure why they think any enthusiast would be interested in this utter show off drivel.

ummm

Not all of them

But then i am pretty sure that EON Productions didn't own any of the Astons that they fucked up in the last 4 Bond films ;)

The big difference is that AM were happy with what was planned and excited about the product placement. FOAD wasn't really offered that option!

Main Stealers have been just as bad to me, Vauxhall stealer (franchise) in Wycombe offered me £1000 for my 7 year old Cavalier 1.6L Mk2 with 188k on the clock against a trade in on a year old Cav Mk3. On the day of signing the dotted line, salesman wanted his mechanic to "take a look over it". I heard the fucker start it and floor it into the workshop. He then held it at full throttle for about 15 seconds. I didnt see this but do recognise the sound of my own car especially as I had owned it since new.

The sales man came back and said HG failed and that trade in had dropped to £400. I told him to fro and explained what I had just heard. Ok he says £600. I am like what the actual fuck. I left in a filthy mood and went to Fords, had been looking at an M Plate Mondeo 1.8L, asked them if the £1k on the cav still stood and explained what had happened. Next day I picked up the Mondeo, went back to Vauxhall and the salesman rushed up to me as I walked in, "my sales director has authorised me to raise the offer to £700" I ignored him and went to the desk asking for the sales manager.

Explained to the sales manager exactly why I had just bought the Mondeo, he was thoroughly embarrassed at the whole debacle but fully suspect that he and saletwat were following company policy. There was no apology, more of a "well we can still offer you the £1k" etc I left and have never been back to a Vauxhall dealer since. etc

Verdict - there are a whole lot of cunts out there

What was the Auction Company thinking of allowing this?

Yeah, my local autions won't even let you lift the bonnet up never mind getting to drive it!

Sward, you're an ex copper, this is TWOC isn't it?

They probably thought it was a laugh and all done tongue in cheek, but I don't like the fact that they treated old cars which weren't theirs with utter contempt, running them down pointing out 'features' to take the piss. The Samara was mechanically good and drove well for its time. There was nothing wrong with the gear-change at all. No car should be gunned for any length of time in an intermediate gear. It's tiresome, boorish 'journalism' of the sort I despise. Give us an objective and fair point of view for a change.

My parents brought me up to respect other peoples property, something that's sadly lacking these days.

Too right. I wouldn't even think of abusing someone else's belongings no matter what the condition.

No its not.  The vehicle is in the possession, ownership and control of the auction company if I've read this thread right.  And as such, the perpetrators in the video have asked permission and have duly been granted use by said auction house.  And the auction house can within reason decide what happens to the vehicle as they have a temporary title to it. Ergo, no TWOC'ing.

But you could consider a pecuniary advantage by the drivers or auction house.  Or corruption by any other word.  That is to say the auction house is appeasing journalists by offering them favours not available to the public or trade alike in exchange for hoped for favourable reviews or advantaged coverage for no invoiced fee.

The journalists themselves could be accused of using and abusing their position or trade by taking and using the cars to suit their own means without fair or favourable coverage for the titled owner or auction house sale in question. Or indeed inspecting and testing the cars without clearly stating their intentions.  Which would be a deception as I'll assume the auction house gave them the keys expecting a written review prior to the sale with a view to promotion of the cars to assist the sale in a fair and unbias way.

A lot of waffle there.  But thats my game.

My cavalier was at the same auction, now it wasnt featured etc but when i picked it up unsold it wasnt locked with the door not shut properly outside, 2nd gear and reverse started to be hard to select, never selling a car at auction again, you dont know how its been treated

This reflects very badly on that media group, but probably even more so on Morris Leslie Auctions.

Ive bought a few there and tried to sell too. Maybe the auction group should be directed to this thread?

I wouldn't want anyone to lose their job or get in trouble from their employers over this.

There I would respectfully disagree. These three onanists are clearly more suited to flipping burgers than automotive journalism, and getting them sacked might provide opportunities for people actually interested in writing about cars, as opposed to aping the moronic antics of Clarkson et al.

I think an email to the auction house linking to the videos and pointing out that the people 'test' driving were claiming to have been supervised by Morris Leslie Auctions and allowed to do this with their full knowledge would be in order along with a massive complaint.

You could also point out the huge amount of negative publicity that it is receiving on the internet via forums social media etc...Hardly an endorsement for their company

The auction manager knows, I already sent him a link to the video and told him my thoughts, I can't really say much more than that but he pretty much agreed that it was in poor taste. Before anyone goes and complains to the auction house, don't bother, it won't help anything.

Getting sacked would perhaps be the best thing to happen to any Bauer employee. At least that gets you before suicide or a mental breakdown.

Glad I told them to shove their job, their politics and their mind games right up their arse. Great to freelance for, shit to work for.

If you look at the terms and conditions, they're not great to freelance for either... (sorry for thread drift).

I've never had any issue with Bauer in over 5 years of continuous work for them.

However, I've been picked-up and corrected on my perceived behaviour a couple of times. And I couldn't disagree on either occasion.

I think the editors of these children should have a word with them over their conduct.

I'm going to stick my neck out here a bit and probably upset someone but there's a few things on here i slightly disagree about, Sam is sound, he knows what he taking about and has real enthusiasm for the job so slating him is a bit unfair, he seemed to genuinely enjoy the Yugo and wasn't hammering it in my opinion.

Gillian i don't know so well but again she seems pretty sound, she has a passion for the old stuff and was very helpful when my Astra was stolen, she was a bit heavy with the Fiat but i believe thats from owning and mainly driving a Standard 8.

Calum on the other hand I'm not so sure about, he seems to be a bit of a twat from what i've read and seen of him, of course i could be wrong but i saw photos of him beaching a Puma and not giving a shit, i get the impression it's more about showing off in front of the kids rather than teaching readers about the cars. Personally the way he behaved in this video is pretty poor and not the way a budding journalist should be acting who wants a career in the motor industry.

I'm sure someone will tell me that I'm wrong for saying this but thats the impression i get.

That sums up what I've been thinking too. The Calum bloke will probably just move on to a different, unrelated publication at some point. He doesn't come across as a true enthusiast, just an attention seeker.

I think the thing that annoyed me most was the intimidatory tone of his (no-longer private) private message to FOAD, namely the part about name calling not being cool "nor accepted in our industry" - as far as I am aware, journalism's just his industry, not FOAD's.  What was he trying to do there?  Was a veiled threat of some description, or what?  They're not cool either.
