Ween't Pegaso some sort of half-arsed Spanish outfit who just re-badged old shit? In fact I think earlier on this thread there's a DAF 95 (or similar) badged as a Pegaso?

For athe absolute ULTIMATE in misery I hope that Cargo is the 4 cylinder job.

Posted

Tell me about it! I used to drive one, we had the old model at the same time, with the 5.8 straight-six. The six was sooooooooooooo much better to drive, and not nearly as many interior bits broke either.

Seems almost exclusively that these lovely old motors sit and rot because the owners want silly money for them.

To be fair they are probably worth more in scrap than most people would be prepared to pay...

Just stumbled across this on flickr. Didn't know these existed - not your common or garden Iveco Cargo but a Pegaso apparently

Pegaso, Sed Atki and Daf were all part of Enasa hence the same cab.

I'm fairly certain that after DAF went bust in 1993, they sold off Sed Atki and Pegaso to Iveco, hence the change in cabs.

However Pegaso went bust in 1993 Iveco - cabbed ones are very rare indeed, I didnt think any were actually released. I have a pic of a Pegaso-Badged pre-production Eurostar somewhere also.

Pegaso were quite an old company and I think they had a lot of their own designs at one point. My favourite Pegaso os the Comet. As its name suggests, it owed much to Leyland in its design. I think I remember reading somewhere that the hubs or axles or something were actually Leyland Items.

The Pegaso Troner used the 'Cabtec' DAF 95 cab, which was built at DAF's plant in Westerlo in Belgium but I don't think that DAF was ever part of ENASA. Although both companies had 'flirted' with International Harvester.

Stand corrected :)

The cab was developed jointly with ENASA but DAF was bought by PACCAR in 1996.

All those acronyms confused me lol!

Anyone into American trucks? I became interested in models from the 50's to the 70's after watching 'Duel' and 'Maximum Overdrive'.

Have a picture of the White 9000 from the latter. Its way more scary than the Duel truck IMO, with its wailing air-powered starter.

Be like Chris Eubank! :D

I love Kenworths and Peterbilts form this era. I had lots of matchbox models of them too!

The Duel Peterbilt Truck is still pretty hard to beat.

This one like it which is a 351 was for sale in the US:

Has a Mack engine, but I'm sure I read somewhere recently these were built on the same platform as the rather cool Bedford TM with the Detroit Diesel lump.

You sure it wasn't one of these?

crackerbox_gmc_buffalo.jpg

Bedford imported two brand spanking new GMC "crackerbox" units like this from the parent company for evaluation purposes when developing the TM. Unsaleable over here and not worth shipping back, both got cut up and scrapped with almost nothing on the clock!

Mate of mine had a TM for ages on milk tankers back in the day, with the 8v71 detroit (V8 2 stroke) He loved it- went like stink and sounded great, but lucky to see 5 mpg. not surprising that detroit diesels had a short career in the Uk really...but still a pity. The sound of a 12v71 on full chat has to be heard to be believed. (lots on youtube)

They didn't sell that many detroit equipped TMs, towards the end most were cummins L10 or even Bedford's own 500 engine. (150 bhp maybe, WHY???) but I would love a go in one.

Yank shite - oversized and over here! This circus claims to have the largest fleet of US rigs in Europe but only a few were on site when I saw them at Bedford.

The Volvo with a friend in early 2007:

I took my HGV driving test in that FL7 no less than five times. I gave up any notion of becoming a trucker on my sixth attempt (in a Scania) and promptly had a nervous breakdown owing to not being able to pass the test and my (then) inability to find a permanent, well-paid job in my chosen industry. All in the past now, though ;)

I've had a thing for US big rigs since I saw "BJ and The Bear" and "Convoy" in the 1980s :)

Pawnote: I watched "Maximum Overdrive" again today. That White is truly the scariest movie truck of them all

I understand it's been sitting with a blown head gasket for years, I hope the plough disappearing isn't the start of it being broken up. The big stain on the floor in today's picture suggests that it's been drained, which could be a good sign or a bad sign I suppose.

Better than an X5? by routemaster2345, on Flickr

^Snap! I photographed that in Glasgow in 2006 as well, sitting outside Scotstoun bus depot? Think it is a sister vehicle, and is the strangest thing I've spotted in a street.

*Edit. Remembered it was on Flickr.

The enquiry is complete.

The vehicle details for FSA 934V are:

Date of Liability 01 10 2012

Date of First Registration 01 10 1979

Year of Manufacture 1952

Cylinder Capacity (cc) Not Available

CO2 Emissions Not Available

Fuel Type HEAVY OIL

Export Marker N

Vehicle Status SORN Not Due

Vehicle Colour YELLOW

Vehicle Type Approval Not Available

Ha snap! I was actually there to see if I could find out if any Ailsas were still in service then, but found a this instead!

I thought that this big lump of metal was doomed as it was sitting outside a scrap dealers but not so!! Just had to type 'AEC' in the 'other' vehicle makes box and it appeared.

Posted

That'll teach me to rely on my memory, FSA937V one is from 1952 as well.

For them all to have consecutive registrations (936 and 937 last taxed in the 1990s) you have to assume they were still being used in 1979, which is an impressive service life.

Hi there - that's my Pegaso Troner that's pictured at the storage by the Scottish Bus Museum a few years ago. No idea if it's still there as I think Trailer Refurb have moved away - if anybody knows where it is please post or email me. I've been in San Francisco for 9 years and the last time I saw it there was about 4 years ago. Likewise I'd love to get it going again, but time and money are the issues (I only come to the UK once a year usually). The tarp on the back is covering another Pegaso engine (goosed though!) that I got for parts when I bought the Pegaso from Cumbria Trucks way back in the late 90s. Apparently the engine was a Pegaso-licensed version of a Leyland engine (T11??). Gearbox is a Pegaso-version of ZF 16 speed if I recall correctly. Great motor - went like a rocket till I had to get a limiter on it.

Anyway, if anyone knows where it is now please let me know!!

Many thanks!

I reckon if anybody is going to know where it is, it will be the guys on Trucknet.co.uk.

I signed up there a while ago, members on there seem to know the whereabouts of any lorry.

Give them a couple of pics to go on (including mine if you want) and I bet someone will know, Its quite a celebrity lorry :)

Saw this on Saturday in their yard, they also have a shitetastic 80's Dodge with a beavertail body on it... :D

Alexander Latto's came to my rescue when the pile of wank Iveco Eurocargo we had on hire shat its power steering (hose runs under the sump) in the middle of a three point turn in the Navy base at Faslane. Drove it back to Edinburgh as I figured it'd be quicker just to drive the bloody thing back than wait inside an MOD base in the middle of nowhere on a Friday night waiting on a fitter to show up. Bloke turned up at our yard to fix it in a quality LDV 400 built from about 3 different vans ( Royal Mail, DF Wishart 'replacement' doors slapped on) 8)

They have some ace wagons eh! They used to have a Dodge 50 on a D-plate with a breakdown body on it but I hevent seen it in a while.

I saw the above twice today and I've worked out why I see it at least this amount twice a day, the Edinburgh Council Vehicle facility is just a bit further up the road from my office in Dalry.

It had a gritter on its back earlir, then a bit later a Dennis bin motor.

Long may this continue! :D

Re Pegaso Troner - many thanks for all the info. Just emailed the Bus Museum to see if it's still around - fingers crossed!!

Cheers!

I hope it is, can't see why not, there's lots of old motors lying around up there that are outwith the Bus museum! :)

Keep us posted!

Thats the one !!

Last spotted with a Sprinter on its back. Their premises scores shite points too - there's a Lada Service Agent sign on the wall at the gate !!

The Scammel must have done service with the Army, they had them with the Rolls 265. Pretty sure Forsyth of Denny had one as well.
