Maxi Madness

I've just re-read the Maxi diesel thread and I'd forgotten just how bizarre and hilarious it was. There's so much craziness there I didn't remember the Pakistani car being mentioned so apologies for bringing it up again.  I'm off to Costco to stock up on veg for my Maxi - E-series diesels  will run on the veg, right?

No, the diesel Maxi will only run on the tears of a Unicorn...................if that's unavailable, distilled essence of Issigonis can be used as a short term substitute

Damn, they've just sold their last bottle of unicorn tears. Thank goodness there's an easy alternative - I understand the Maxi is itself made of almost pure essence of Issigonis and just needs the Haynes impurities removing, which can be achieved by chopping off the front end. Someone once suggested essence of Issigonis can also be obtained by crushing Minis but that activity is frowned upon.

As far as I'm concerned, the Greek twat can rot in hell. The Mini [original one] that everyone fawns over was possibly the most hateful confection ever to roll off a British production line [until the Triumph Stag, obv]

Excellent! Welcome back Pete. Another Maxi too. What else have you got to make the Maxi a 3rd car then?

Thanks LS, are you still in Bewdley?

I currently have the 309, Renault 5 and Talbot Horizon. I'm selling the 309, currently on Ebay, it's a very competent car but I haven't really gelled with it. So my intention is to have the 5 (unless if horrifically fails its MOT this week), the Horizon which goes well (but slowly) and has a unique facility where the passenger can wash their feet whilst on the move and now the Maxi.

I am hoping for another raid on the French chod scene next year with either a early 5, a 6 or another 14 on the shopping list, that might cause me to sell one of the other two, but we will see!

Mmmmm, Renault 14...ooooohhhh yes. Very yes.

Good to hear from you again Mr Organist! Fingers crossed that the Maxi is saveable, looking forward to updates.

I'm well aware of the Maxi diesel meme and how it came about, thank you very much. If *everyone* already knows about the Pakistani car then how come it has never been mentioned here in the five years I have been a member? I just thought members might like to know there is more truth to the joke than they may have realised.

Apologies for the mass exaggeration of "everyone". I was having a prod because in not remembering the previous posting of that Pakistani green car, I thought the original thread containing it had be passed you by. I wouldn't have said owt if it nobody spoke about it in that same "old fart" thread way back then.

Hi Sam, hope you are well. That's good to hear about the trailer, I was thinking about it the other day.

Yes still bothering old chod! The average age decreased with the arrival of the Renault 5 so I am trying to bring it back up a bit!

Thankyou.

Fingers crossed here too, I will certainly be updating the thread, hopefully it should be on my drive within the next couple of weeks.

Yes I miss my old 14, thought I better go and get another before Brexit! This time I will waxoil it!

Couldn't disagree with that much more if I tried. Yes, they were a bit unreliable and could rot some, but the original Mini was a brilliant little car, a genuine world beater imho.

LJKS liked 14's and recommended a front air dam; I don't know if it did any good but it looked good. I fitted two spot lights behind the grille and it never overheated despite being run to the redline regularly as one would with 1218cc and 5 up on the M32 grand prix. The front wings come off easily that made my annual waxoyling by brush a clean exercise. I did oil changes every 3,000 miles that kept the gear box happy - the accumulated used oil kept a Morris 1800 topped up at 200 miles/pint.

Those were the days!

Fair dos, that whole thread is so weird it's hard to tell what's true and what's bollocks and I really dont remember the Pakistani car being mentioned there so I thought I had stumbled upon something new. Apols if it felt like I was having a pop at you.

Back to Peter's car, a 1500 must be quite rare, particularly one that late. All the Maxis I've seen over the last few years have all been 1750s. The previous owner of ours reckons the 1500 is the better engine, a strange thing to say when he was trying to sell us his 1750

I know my Mini views are probably in a small minority..................for which I make no apology. However, I still hate the bloody things!

Most mini lickers will know but not acknowledge the fact that a commute in a mini on a wet grey damp foggy Tuesday in February is something to be dreaded.

I love minis and have had a few but would never have another.

I have fond memories of my dads Maxi HL (with the black vinyl dash and GT style steering wheel) KPH269P

Last seen May 1st 1985 when it was traded in......... For a Mini!

It is indeed one of the last 1500's although I have seen a "Maxi 1 1/2"" 1500 with the cloth trim and the plastic boot badges. I think the 1500 is supposed to be smoother than the 1750. I know of a handful of 1500's, I went to view one early in the year but it had been very badly brush painted, shame as it was a lovely colour called Bracken.

I concur. I've owned a few over the last few decades. I love the things..... however... they really do become tiresome buggers! Motorway jaunts in daily service can become head melting and require medical treatment for back pain and headache! Still love them though. Would have another at some time. Probably would suffer one again. Buggers get under your skin!
