Now to something I have been meaning to do for a while..

Time to clean the interior fabrics. This has been something that I have intended to do for the last 4 years, and bouyed by the golf roof success, it was over to the wet vac to perform the duties..

First up, the passenger seat.

Despite only having done 50k miles, it wasn't immaculate.

Bowfin'! That map of Africa needs to get huntit.

A cursory hoover saw the detritus removed ready for skooshification.

The magic potion of choice? Some lemon fairy liquid in hot water. This was put into a pressure sprayer (the 'wet' part of the wet vac doesnt work..) and applied liberally.

After a minute or two to soak in, a stiff brush was vigorously applied in vertical and horizontal motions, before a swirling, scrubby finale.

Sookification was the next stage - the vac is great at getting the liquid back out - the seat was back to 'slightly damp' in no time.

Results?

I'll try to get pictures once they are dry - they may need another pass, but I see a big improvement:)

The carpet got a going over too - I think the whole clean was not before time!

Excellent stuff. Looks like far less folk have suffered unfortunate trouser accidents in there now!

Thanks - that was the plan - I reckon I will need to line up much of the fleet for similar treatment

Wow thats made a difference! You've probably given the fabric 20 more years before it rots itself out too! 

And when you fart into the seat it'll smell of fairy (liquid...)

That looks a huge improvement!

I might try the same technique on the Rancho seats — the tartan tweed is very grubby. The beige vinyl will need dyeing/painting— I’ve been watching @vulgalour’s maroon exploits with interest for that.  And yes I know that’s probably not the most pressing job on that car.

Sounds a plan. Any job that lets you start, and can give a big win relatively easily is no bad thing:)

If you're ever on or near the Isle of Wight, don't forget I have a loft full of Rancho spares, including seats, interior trim etc.

Nice job, bowfin seats are a real pet hate of mine. I use plain old hot water with a shot of Persil in it and a scrubbing brush, which usually does the trick.

I took 10 mins out from soup making to do the following:

Checking the new leads for the plugs

I did a test start and it fired up lovely..

 

Very pleased, and a total cost of £11.24 :)

 

hopefully more work to come tomorrow if the weather holds off

Another massive* update:

And made a major improvement to the key by the addition of a Spanish keyring:)

Today, I decided to try and do some bodywork and undersealing on the Toledo:

Supplies gathered, I started with the drivers front wing:

Sandpaper and a screwdriver got the loose stuff off

I turned it round - literally nothing to do!

happily it's very solid, bar the small rough section in the above picture.

Vactan and Underseal added as per the other side.

After fixing the front joint on the exhaust, the rest of the system came out in sympathy..

Time to do something about it:

I appears to be the original system - 28 years old so no harm to it!

 

Application of brute force, ignorance and a grinder saw this occur:

Then it was time to fit the new pipe and centre box:

Interestingly*

The centre pipe clamps onto the cat and the first mount thereafter is at the inlet of the mid box (about a 5ft run).

Said midbox support is in one side, and it's not supported on the opposite side until the backbox.

They lasted until the last roundabout before getting home

After some grunty sweaty, and a bit of jiggery pokery..

 

We have a complete new cat back system installed.

All the mounts are fitted. I think the fit could do with some adjustment, but it's silent as a fish now.

 

Unfortunately lost the oval tailpipe:(

I also took it out for a wee 5 mile shakedown run and managed to get it hot enough to burn my finger on the end of the tailpipe.

 

This means it's ready to go on an adventure..

New clutch
New release bearing
New gearbox mount
New clutch cable
New gearbox oil
New gear linkage and bushings

 

Hopefully it comes back with an actual clutch and something approaching an actual gearshift:)
