Likely you clever lot know already but there is some bargains to be had on that there Amazon using the reg number search then filtering lowest priced first. Just ordered a load of bit's for wife's fiesta, coil springs for £4, droplinks £3 , 10 spark plugs for £3.53 ! Some guys on the omega forums were bagging radiators and the like for £6, choose well and you get free postage too :)

Yep, some definite bargains to be had.

I ignored all the dubious branded stuff that I hadn't heard of, but in amongst all that there were loads of proper OE quality stuff that was obviously being priced to clear, typically with just one or two items left in stock. My haul was as follows for my 205 GTi / Mi16...

Sachs clutch for £8, Beru HT lead set for £5, Bremi dizzy cap for £3, Elring headgasket set for £4, two Dayco timing belt kits for £15 all in and a TRW track rod for £4. All turned up exactly as expected within a few days, as you'd expect from Amazon.

Was quite happy with that, especially when other suppliers on Amazon were selling the same bits for ten times the price :)

I imagine that there's even bigger bargains to be had for less popular/common cars too.

Be wary of the 'Set of 10' description for spark plugs, wankers only send one. Been There.

Just ordered a track rod for the Jag-£40 from Euro, £4 on Amazon. Had to buy a book to get free delivery though...

Cheers!

There are Valeo Megane radiators at £11 but it says they don't fit mine

Google the part number and look at schematics and other parts it cross references with - the compatibility database on Amazon isn't perfect

Found a few cheap ones but it says for vehicles with air conditioning. Surely that will just be the odd extra bracket on the sides and would fit mine with no a/c?

Was hoping I'd struck lucky here with another spares stash for my 121 project. Rats.

got a polo rad for £7 hehe

does this change daily....i saw some deals on other stuff then looked again and they were ££££ is it worth looking often?

I've seen the same.

I'm guessing that most of the heavily reduced parts are either bits they're no longer looking to stock or are bits that aren't selling and the price is reduced to stimulate demand before increasing again.

Certainly all the parts that I bought are either showing as unavailable now or are back up to full price.... which is really annoying, as some of the items I would have bought all the stock they had at the silly price that it was being offered at, but didn't as I wanted to be sure what I was getting was as advertised and not a substituted so called "equivalent" (but in reality substandard) part. Having received them, went back to order more and... full price :(

The really cheap stuff is often showing as only one left, though the site isn't very clear when it comes to brake discs even if you do read all the small print and between the lines. Loads of X-referencing needed at times to make the best of what's available, there are plenty of bargain bits offered on ebay, too - usually under the part number only, to prevent those without much idea forever returning things.

A lot of the cheap stuff is fulfilled by amazon stuff. So it's sat in an amazon warehouse. If it sits too long amazon want £kerching! as a penalty for taking up space, or you can pay to have it sent back, or pay for amazon to throw it away. Or you can sell it for a tenner to avoid all the other options.

I spent 30 minutes filling my basket yesterday with Space Runner bits.

They are crazy cheap, Calipers for £6 and Shocks for £8.  I can pretty much build a new car for £150!

I am unsure how much to buy in preventative measures.

I have a spare bedroom full of ZX bits from Amazon. My theory was if its cheap enough I'll buy it and stash it. If the car goes first I'll recoup the price of parts via ebay as they were that cheap I can't lose. So stash away what you can afford to spend, hopefully you won't need the parts, but you'll have them if you do. This only works if you intend to keep the car for a few years

I was with you up to this point ...

I'm glad this has been of help to people, beware of the pack of 10 ford spark plugs though, you only get one   :-)  , if you report it as faulty 3 times though they keep replacing it with another so you can make up a full set

I've got a pattern part Mondeo headlight assembly coming for £11, they are normally around £30. Will report back when it arrives...

BEWARE BEWARE. Buy carefully. The radiator which was described as fitting my Megane was too wide.

I have concluded that there are about 39 different kinds of radiator for the Renault Megane MK1 so if that's the case with your car, just be careful. Some descriptions are non existent too which obvs makes things a bit more roulette-esque.
