If those offers come from Gumtree its their fault.

They say make an offer and then just send you the number rather than explaining it

Ah right. What a pile of wank it was winding me right up. I'll add another score point to my eBay shit list. When I get to 1000 I'm going to fly to america and shit through their letter box,

What difference does a tenner make to the owner of the garage? Jeez what a miserable pedantic sod. On the other hand, at least you didn't adopt the same approach and went ahead with the deal. The garage looks a bit shonky but the chances of it being broken into seem a lot lower due to its location.

Just caught up with this. Guess you probably don't need to hear it, but what a knob the Escort seller is/was. Reading between the lines, I'm thinking you didn't stick a deposit down on it? I've got to say, even if it's only £50, a deposit and receipt of acknowledgement normally gives me enough peace of mind that the seller won't bail.

In the meantime, as others have said, try not to beat yourself up over it. Things happen for a reason, usually, so I'm sure a suitable alternative is parked awaiting your imminent TLC somewhere.

Running that gaff probably means he is church mouse poor.

His heating bill alone is probably enough to bankrupt most of us.

I don't want to sound all "Internet legal warrior" but I'd be seriously considering a trip to the small claims court with this. It's one thing being gazumped, but when it's all agreed in writing, and you've lost actual money, it's time to do something.

Although I'm probably a bit of a knob because I'd have told Mansion Boy to shove his garage up his arse.

Meh.  Life's too bloody short.  Taking time off work to go to court costs more money, so it's a hiding to nothing really.

I am reasonably interested in some cold, painless revenge though.  I shouldn't, but it might make me feel a bit better!

Paging Shefag, how many argos catalogues to equal the cost of the train tickets?

Do you have to attend small claims?

The Sierra looks right at home* there! Make sure you don't lose that disklok key though, whatever you do. I never got around to getting some spares cut (it's a bit of a faff, involving sending the key to their HQ in Chorley with a cheque).

Real shame about the Escort. I've been through exactly this in the past. I now try and only buy cars from friends, forum members and so on, because there's more chance of them being honest, and keeping their side of the deal.

Treated the 75 to £7.50 worth of IMO today in an effort to keep the undercarriage free of salt. After a quick once over at home it looks a lot better.

And we've just ticked over 100,000.

It's a handsome thing. I like it. Once the weather improves further I'll get the inside right up to scratch.

The small claims court may be worth a go. Will put the wind up them if nothing else.

I've done it a couple of times and won before ever going to court.

Just get the forms fill them in. You have to notify them of your intent.

This causes panic.

You do not have to go through with it.

Well, I've been waiting for this day since June 2013 when I bought the Avensis for £850 with 100,400 miles on the clock.  The previous owners were convinced it was going to grenade at such a vast mileage, and chopped it in for a new Kia.

Today - this landmark was reached.

I just wish it hadn't happened in bloody Kettering of all places!

Hoping to be at the Moon by Easter 2018.  In the meantime, will probably drop a note to the previous owner to let them know.  They had the car for 12 years, so must have been a bit fond of it.

Congrat’s! Still feel good to drive? Wuvvum had that pleasure in my first Camry estate that he had after me for a while.

Can’t see it happening to anything in my current fleet.

Well, I had one exactly the same as this back in 2003-7.  That was V781 GDP and this is V263 GDP - and this feels better at 200k than that did at 150k.  Since then I've learnt to do basic works myself like oils and filters so it's not a great surprise.

The gear shift is a bit sloppy (the mechanic showed me what is worn when he did the clutch last year, but couldn't get a part quick enough as I needed the car back briskly) but otherwise it is absolutely bob on.  My Managing Director asked to borrow it last month to collect his daughter from school as his car was blocked in by builders, and he was genuinely amazed by the mileage.  He reckons it's tight, but you never really notice things when you drive them day in day out eh?

Other than stacking it, I'm not sure there's much to stop it going on indefinitely.

How far is the moon? I'll race you there (I've got a 11k head start too).

On a V plate this is a non VVTi? My wife took a 2.0 VVTi from 125k to 205k, it didn't drive any differently (apart from a slipping clutch) at the end but the oil consumption was getting a bit much.

240K according to the previous owner of an audi A6 I bought (listed as having been to the moon)

200k, that's excellent work there. I would suggest an actual thread on here for the 200k mile club!

Good idea. I've just started a high milers thread.

After a bit of soul searching, I've decided to move on the Rover 75 launch car that I bought a couple of months ago.  Two reasons.

1) I do, really, want a primrose one.  As much as this is a beautiful car, it's never going to be "the one".  You know - an absolute keeper foreverer.

2) My Toyota Granvia will be off the road for a good few weeks over the next month having various improvements done - so I will need another 7 seater in the meantime.

Putting it on Car and Classic to gauge response.  No point advertising it here as everyone already owns one !!1!

Lovely looking car, those personal line interiors really look the biz. Any clues on what it's being replaced with in the fleet?

Ps there's a primrose one on the 75/zt forum classifieds at the mo. Not perfect but sounds like the current owner has been looking after it- £500 IIRC OBV I was tempted but one 75 is enough for me!

After the great gazumping of 2017 on that Escort, I'm trying to keep things quiet these days.

That went well then !

I've left a message for the guy - I actually know of this car, as it used to live in St Neots.  I looked at it when it was for sale back in 2014 and was very tempted.  However, at that time we only had three parking spaces and already had three vehicles.

Thank the lord for progress!

Sold within 2 hours on eBay at £850.  There was another guy who asked me to confirm I'd "re-mot" it - and in the time it took me to reply, someone else snaffled it.

Hopefully it'll be smooth.  I need to get it MOT'd tomorrow or tuesday!

That's a shame. I was trying to talk my Dad in to buying it. He's just text me to say it was no longer available on eBay.

Edit - Shame for me - not for you! Glad it's gone smoothly!

Sorry, man. Genuinely. I've also had buyer 1 on saying "I said I'd buy it if you confirmed you'd MOT". In my defence, I made that pretty clear in the advert... But I still feel a bit bad.
