My late Uncle Rolland had a 1.4 pez Megane which he put some decent mileage on it and had no problems.

I had a 1.6 8v pre facelift, not many problems with it and excellent at wading which is saying something for an elderly French petrol car. I think I might still have some gas struts for the boot kicking around if you need them

The 1.6 ones were absolutely ace on fuel, would imagine the 1.4 to be better still.

16v? I used to use one on a regular basis. Quite quick! Certainly more than a match for the focus 1.6. Used to do loads to the gallon easy 40+. Check at the end of the sills though, they used to put rubber bungs in the sills that were designed to let water out, then paint over them with shutz, thus trapped the water. Not too bad to work on either, as I can remember servicing was fairly simple, more involved stuff less so.

Sounds exactly like that. eBay is making it difficult to resolve it too. Only way they suggest I can do it is to contact the seller which I've done 3 times to no avail.
