Cavcraft Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Ahh, the sound of leather on willow. Birds warbling and twittering. Sunglasses. Ice cream. The wind whistling through your sills And the gentle hum of the odometer clicking round to 197,000 miles. I mean, as if one rusty convertible wasn't enough. Skizzer, Junkman, wuvvum and 32 others 35
Felly Magic Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Deffo need a photo of it with your dog! Cavcraft 1
xtriple Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Just washed mine... it didn't actually dissolve, just bits fell off as usual
Tamworthbay Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 Sold mine last year, love the replacement but miss the 5.
Pillock Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 What's the chances of it getting another MOT without needing shares in TATA Steel? Lacquer Peel 1

New POD Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Went out in our MX5 yesterday with my wife to a 'craft market' about 35 miles away. She insisted that despite the sun shinning we keep the top up.Going up Parbold Hill, the temp gauge went right to the top, which is silly because the fan is now working. We put the top down on the way back. Yeh. eddyramrod 1
Cavcraft Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 What's the chances of it getting another MOT without needing shares in TATA Steel? Probably about the same as my dog winning a fight with a scrap yard Doberman and the Midget mending itself in the middle of the night. The floor actually looks fairly good, it's the o/s sill at the rear (which is quite frankly dreadful) a spot on the o/s/f sill/floor I think and the valance as some of the bits where the bumper attaches to are rusted. It's a right laugh to drive though, taxed and insured it yesterday and did a quick six miler round the lanes with the top down. Seems to be masses of history and bills with the car, but having cracked 198,000 miles now I think, clearly it must have been fairly well maintained. garbaldy Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Why such a downer on it have you never heard of p40 ? The Reverend Bluejeans 1
Cavcraft Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 I'll just fibreglass the sill for now, if I can be arsed.
brownnova Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Hang on an MG Midget followed by an MX5 - You are me AICMFP! They are super tho, mine too needed a touch of the sparkly stick to get it through the test, in exactly the same spot! But it wasn't too bad a job apparently. Just waiting for some more sunshine now!
eddyramrod Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I spy a pattern here... well-maintained but rusty MX5 and a laid-up Midget... Billy's bought an engine crane!
Felly Magic Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 You are may mate Martin Chamberlain AICMFP, little beigey white dog, red MX5....
Jim Bell Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Thats the highest mileage MX5 I've ever seen. Can anyone beat that?
Tamworthbay Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 There are a good few out there between 200,000 and 300,000 and one guy on mx5nutz claims his is at 500,000 but he is a bit of a tit so could be BS. Cavcraft, gm and dugong 3
Station Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I never used to like these but have just starting liking them.
brownnova Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I never used to like these but have just starting liking them.Well I'm sure there'll be a red one up for sale very soon.... Cavcraft and DeeJay 2
Cavcraft Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 I was quite pissed when I took this picture last night, so it (car and picture) is even worse than normal. theshadow 1
Tamworthbay Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 What is the inner sill like? The roof drains into that area and it can get messy with three sections coming together.
Tamworthbay Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Not an easy fix then, can be done but it's involved. I have done two now and you are looking at half a day - day for an amateur to sort (my welding days start at 9 with a cuppa and finish at 4 with lots of tea in between). Cavcraft and purplebargeken 2
New POD Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I'll just fibreglass the sill for now, if I can be arsed. I can recommend using an mk2 astra sill as a repair panel and welding it in. Won't be the right shape but hey, that's wot I did.
sporty-shite Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I was quite pissed when I bought this last night, so it is even worse than the normal shit I buy FTFY
Cavcraft Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 To be fair, although it's crap it's far from the worse thing I've bought! Which reminds me, I haven't collected that BSA Ariel 3 yet. sporty-shite 1
Tamworthbay Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Hope it was cheap, they don't fetch much with holy sills.
Cavcraft Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Oh aye, the price was right. I sort of plan to keep it (ha!) until about a month before the MOT runs out. Tamworthbay and sporty-shite 2
anonymous user Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 I haven't collected that BSA Ariel 3 yet.My old neighbour bought one of those new as a present for his wife (I think he was trying to kill her) Cavcraft 1
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 Summer....... Mmmmmmm image.jpegimage.jpeg This post amused me - and I need cheering up! Mr A Lawrence 1
New POD Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 Oh aye, the price was right. I sort of plan to keep it (ha!) until about a month before the MOT runs out. I know someone whom is planning to build an MEV Exocet, and has tasked me with finding a donor. This seems ideal. He'll be looking in about a month, or two. Cavcraft 1
