I can has Vauxhall, surprisingly not that shite!

So, the forester has gone to its new home.

In its place, is an automatic vauxhall omega of the 2.2 variety. Scruffy and utterly fucking filthy, but was mine for the princely sum of £400 with years mot and a veritable mountain of service history.

It's a cdx with 110k on the clock, a few giffer parking scuffs and enough room in the back for a family of Romanians.

As is the. Law, here's a pez station shot:

More to follow once it's been thoroughly cleaned!

It looks pretty cool!Vauxhalls(or Opel) are pretty reliable cars for a good price.

Initial impressions are favorable. It's a lovely smooth drive and surprisingly rapid for its size. It's also soooo comfy, like sitting in your favorite armchair!

The bad bits:

Giffer parking scuffs front and rear. Tiny bit of rust under the rear drivers side window.

Failed thermostat, so engine management light has come out to play

It is so filthy, it could star in its own x rated movie

The last owners dog has had a chew on one door card.

All in, it's not bad at all. A few hours with the spanners and paint should put it right again.

Have a few more photos:

Not a lot to hate about these really. Hopefully something painful will go wrong on it for you and spoil everything.

Oooo, that's good to know.

So far the list is a glove box lid and rear drivers door card and possibly the bumpers if they're ok...the rest seems to be pretty good!

That's exactly the same as the one that my mates parents had. Y174ONT iirc.

They loved it, did over 200k before it finally died. In France. Its probably still there somewhere.

Nice things these Omega's

There is a nice blue W reg Elite that belongs to a big detached house down the road from me. It looks really well cared for, I'm waiting for that to pop up for sale for 400 sovs, I'd be right in there! Jus cos.

Golly, that's an awful lot of transport for £400. Well done.

When people are whinging about spiralling property prices you can simply point out that you bought an entire house for £400 and it has the added bonus of going wherever you want it to go.

I love these. Brodfather has had 4 since the late 90s and as such, I hold the Green 2.5 Elite he got, when I was about 3, completely responsible for sparking my interest in cars. Even to this day, whenever I have to draw a quick picture of a car, it still has a resemblance to the profile of his one.

They probably got under his skin too, as he went of and bought a 2003 3.2 Elite 2 years ago, even though was looking for a 5-Series.

I can't say I am unhappy about his choice though, and I am very pleased that we have one on here too. Well done and I hope you enjoy owning it.

Fantastic cars!

I've had two.

Bought a 3 year old S reg 2.5 estate many years ago (£7000-had money and no sense then) - towed the tin tent with ease-had it many years. Replaced it with a T reg 3.0 Elite estate (£1000- less money more sense). The Elite had electric everything-heated seats front and back-electric seats and even the rear view mirror moved automatically when you pressed the seat memory. Kept the elite for two years (it was my wifes car)  then replaced it with a £200 Fiesta that did 35mpg instead of 19mpg.

Cracking cars though-one of the best Vauxhalls along with the Cavalier. Nothing out there now compares.

The estates were massive-in fact the wife dented both drivers front wings in the same Asda in Cwmbran but about 4 years between! I think it was the same bollard as well!

Well bought!

A few photos of the Elite

If it's a manual I'd be interested in the gear lever-i want to shorten the Locosts lever and its running an Omega R25/28 box.

That's the main reason I've bought it as the gearbox, clutch, lever and prop sell well as a package for dropping saab turbo engines into chevettes etc. I'll keep an eye out for a lever for you though

Well. That's the thermostat changed and the fuel consumption now at the heady heights of 23mpg!! (It was pushing 14mpg around town yesterday...)

As if to say thanks, the airbag light has decided to say hello. Any resident Vauxhall lickers know of a likely culprit before I resort to hammers and screwdrivers!

Maybe shifting the seat has dislodged the underseat sensor wiring, will need to be reset with diagnostic software. I have opcom if need be.

I might have to take you up on that- my local garage has a version of tech2, but they don't think it'll talk to the car. (I didn't ask why- they're a land rover specialists and were fighting with a tdv8 that'd shat both head gaskets out...)

Yesterday, i mainly attempted to clean the gopping horror that was this cars interior. It looked like the old lad who had it before me used it as both a rolling tip and a dog kennel.

After a quick clean, thanks to the local IMO:

Definitely a 15 footer, but it's a bit more presentable now!

Onto the interior:

Stop making me regret getting rid of my Omega!

Admittedly, it did smell a bit 'hot' whenever I parked up, and was drinking a bit of oil (check oil warning came on every 500 miles or so), so perhaps it had early signs of HGF. I didn't hang around to find out!

I really want a 2.6 with a manual 'box though. The auto on mine drove me insane, it was so bloody indecisive!

Breaker has arrived, door card is chomp free :-D , gimme a shout if you're wanting to come over at some point

That definitely looks clean. There was a lot of junk in the judging by the water colour and the dust on the bottom of the container.

Posted

Cleaned up nicely! I personally like the facelift exterior but prefer the original dashboard. One if those cars that is disappearing fast, I hope it does you well.

Posted

That looks great. It is amazing what a wash and hoover can do to the appearance of a car.

Posted

It's come up well. The worst of the bodywork is a front corner scuff on the passenger side, scuff down the sill and a scuff on the rear bumper. Other than that, there's a small patch of rust under the rear drivers window.

It's a tidy old bus really. Still can't believe they only wanted £400 for it, but they couldn't be arsed dealing with the failed thermostat and cam cover gasket leak. (they all do that sir)

After 2 days of smoking about, I've come to like the old girl. Even Financial Management likes it- she's made noises about borrowing it herself to walk the hound in the school holidays!

An itch I never scratched, despite owning a senator and a royale.

The complexity (and issues) with some V6's put me off.
