Volksy Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Well life took a bit of a tumble down an escalator. And I've held on to this for as long as I can. After loss of job and home meant that destitution arrived I still kept hold of this.Realism has now arrived as my storage has now stopped, so move on it must, anyone want this?JRG 1998 XJ8, so much beige in one vehicle. 120k needs MOT, all work done apart from a ball joint and screen repair. Will need tyres soon, and tracking. But runs good and everything works. Just had the locks changed and a new remote etc.£300 anyone? Will swap etc.

eddyramrod Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 Ohhhh that's sinful. I'm almost glad I have no money left....
MarvinsMom Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 XJ6/XJ8's are wonderfully ruinous and so so decadent! mine recently has taken to trying my patients and my bank balance. it too has an MOT looming, depending on what the man from the ministry says, it may be going to the great carpark in the sky, or may yet waft on for another year. ok chances are i'll strop about for a while cursing the bloody thing before asking the garage to just put the flippin' thing right! (i do his alot, most recently with the Mini, it failed its test on emissions guess who is putting a new exhaust and the cat back on that this saturday....) imo i didn't much care for the V8 cars, preferring the hardier* straight 6 proper jaguar engine, but that one does look a steal at £300, thank god i have nowhere for it to go to! its gotta be a great car for someone (just not me sadly) DeeJay 1
Volksy Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 It's in Leeds, just fired it up (first time in a month or so) and gone for a cruise round the block. It all popped into life, needed a battery boost as been stood, but tbh its as if it was parked up yesterday. Dammit I bloody love this car.
HillmanImp Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I just said to Mrs Imp that my old Jag was up for sale and she said "Are you buying it back?" quite matter of factishly..... Sadly I can't. I already have one big cat and don't need another. I liked this car and really regretted selling it, hence why I only lasted 3 weeks without it before I bought JohnKs one which I still have.
Magnificent Rustbucket Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 £300 seems very cheap for this. Good luck with the sale. oldcars 1
sierraman Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 I got married in a 226k example one of these. Not literally, just went to do the deed in it. Lovely car, really nice car to sit in, even though it was 15 years old you felt the dogs bollocks in it. From the moment you open the doors and climb in over the huge sills you feel cocooned in comfort in it. I enjoyed the brief drive home in it immensely, right up until the point where it felt like it shit it's gearbox and went into limp home mode. Took it back with a great sense of guilt to my mates house and explained the problem he gave it the old 'it always does that'. Still it cost my mate £500 and gave him 18 months of motoring and he still got £300 back after it sat on the garden for another 2 years. I'd been quoted £300 at the time to hire an awful Audi or whatever, I couldn't face the embarrassment of turning up in some foul SUV or something modern. So given my mate was bereft of a car at that time i instructed him to go out and buy something suitably shit for the occasion, much to the confusion of people who attended the do. carlo 1
HillmanImp Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 They really are a very nice place to be. This one has the beige leather and lighter 'wood coloured plastic' dash. If Volksy ends up breaking this or selling it to a scrapper i might replace the interior of my sport as its drab in comparison in its porridge grey.
Timewaster Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 They really are a very nice place to be. This one has an interior like the inside of a Mars bar. Better?
skattrd Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I am slightly tempted to ask about the possibility for a trade with the vario, but I have less need for a shonky Jag than a rubber band Volvo.
purplebargeken Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 On the way home last night I was thinking about big engined vehicles. I has no 300 quid but I do have a rather tidy Citroen AX for swappage if you fancy a jaunt down to that there London, well Essex actually.
Sheefag Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Guys, I think the lad needs cash right now rather than a swap.Sorry to hear your news Volksy, I hope life turns a corner for you soon.
skattrd Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Guys, I think the lad needs cash right now rather than a swap. ...... as my storage has now stopped, so move on it must, anyone want this?...£300 anyone? Will swap etc.
Lord Sterling Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I shouldn't really, but... £100 and a shonky Rover 820? It's a nice old thing but of course nowhere near the comfort levels of a Jag. Needs some bits and bobs doing to it but I will supply what I can with it and stick on an MoT. HillmanImp and purplebargeken 2

Sheefag Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 Respectfully, I think this lad needs cash more than a swap right now.
djimbob Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 Respectfully, I think this lad needs cash more than a swap right now. perhaps, but he did say he would do a swap due to losing parking space etc, and furthermore maybe he could flog a, say, MOT'ed and taxed to get one home Hyundai Atoz, to get some much needed readies?? All of which is speculation until he comes back on and replies to his pm's
Cavcraft Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 I shouldn't really, but... £100 and a shonky Rover 820? It's a nice old thing but of course nowhere near the comfort levels of a Jag. Needs some bits and bobs doing to it but I will supply what I can with it and stick on an MoT. That's a bloody good offer, even if Volksy raffles the Rover to get some money coming in. Regardless of that, hope you're ok Volksy and whatever has gone wrong irons itself out asap. Lord Sterling 1
barefoot Posted May 29, 2016 Posted May 29, 2016 OK kids, I've been drinking heavily all afternoon.Subject to a word with my MOT bloke and a booking it in when he re-opens on Tuesday, I'll be up for this and will make plans to collect Wednesday and pay in crisp sequential fiftiesand a fucked play station if all goes according to plan. Pm to follow. skattrd, alf892, Essex V6 and 5 others 8
Volksy Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 This has now sold to a fellow shiter. I'll be delivering it all being well on Monday, then heading off to collect some eminently less fabulous but entirely practical chod. I shall make sure I have a full phone charge for a live delivery/collection thread! Wilko220, skattrd, Sigmund Fraud and 3 others 6
