Alexg Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Ok Shitters get ready for an explosion of apathy. 2001 Rover 45 Impression S4 Door Saloon2.0 Turbo Diesel.Genuine 83000 Miles MOT until 22 September 2016 (no advisories bar tyre - now replaced)Get you home Bees WaxGood Service History (9 Stamps + Bills)Full Leather Interior - Heated! (Pre-Project Drive so actually looks like it sort of came from a cow and not discarded rubber gimp masks)Big Arse Rover AlloysAir Conditioning - not working.Drives OK with no dubious goings on.New discs and pads to front 3000 miles ago.HPI Clear Picked up this hot piece of booty action from some nice giffer chap who was moving and didn't need it anymore. I'll punt it off on eBay Sunday but there's a shitter price here if anyone can make something of it. It's not perfect, but quite a sharp looking thing and drives OK if not the most pokey Diesel in the world. I'm not sure how these L Series TD engines are meant to perform but the contribution from the Turbo isn't what you'd call mind blowing. I guess I am used to modern Turbo Diesels with small capacity but with large induction to get things moving in one swift kick to the chops, but this is considerably less urgent. It does seem proper torquey though and flew up the steep hill I just tackled en route to collect fish and chips. The engine could be described as 'smooth and refined', but only if you're a complete mental. It still drives well however, starts first time from cold, with no clunks or concerning noises from the suspension or running gear. I feel confident driving it if you know what I mean? Sometimes you get that vibe from a car that suggests at any moment it could unload a whole barrel load of grief, but not with this one. Of course my gut feeling means shit-all and if you base your buying decision on such mumbo-jumbo you need your head examining. Exterior condition is very good. It's in BRG, it's got the large wheels, front fogs, it's rather straight and tidy without any dents or scratches worthy of note at this level. One new tyre, 3 others on about 4mm at worst. Tow bar fitted. Inside is also very good, the drivers door card has had a bit of a going over and could do with a tidy if you're bothered and there's a bit of wind noise though the drivers window which I thought I 'solved' by dropping the glass about 2mm, but then it came back. Electric Windows and Mirrors, Air Con (or not currently), Heated Cow, Wood* trim, Remote Central Locking - the flippin' works man! Tons of Service History, Stamps and Bills etc, although not much from the past 3 years or so. No history of a Cambelt since 2007 - 36k miles. So you might want to consider that a priority. It's available here for £390 before I ebay for about £550. Give me a holla if this inexplicably gives you the twitch. It comes with 2 keys, V5, MOTs, Locking Wheel Nut, Owners Manual, Service History paperwork plus a Cavcraft rivalling 3 second / 60 yard warranty. It's in Maidstone Kent about 10 minutes from the M20. Excuse me not going all The Doctor over the shots: EDIT: HAZ 'TRACTOR SYNDOME' - READ A BIT FURTHER ON!! £300 Cavcraft, The Moog, Mr Lobster and 15 others 18
rantingYoof Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 This engine will go forever. If you have no cambelt history, or history at all, do not maintain it, do not check any levels, don't do a THING, it'll still work. Forever. Highly recommended. EDIT - personal review of a much less nice 45 2.0TD can be seen here, two thirds down the page: http://autoshite.com/topic/24045-rantingyoofs-historic-car-fleet-information-history-threadthing/?do=findComment&comment=966374 Jazoli 1
Mr_Bo11ox Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Oooh, proper leather Rover 75 seats as well, none of that project drive cardboard tosh. Nice
scruff Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 If its as good as the 200 we had with the same engine this is VALU. Great motors!
Jazoli Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 That is fantastic, for under 400 quid, I bet that sells fast.
RoadworkUK Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Will this accept one of those Impreza WRX-humbling lunatic piggyback ECU boxes as per Wuvvum and the Doomrover? loserone 1
RoadworkUK Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 Ironically my old 820e sounded like a diesel. Perhaps it was a development mule. Joey spud 1
Alexg Posted May 20, 2016 Author Posted May 20, 2016 This one sounds like 20 Diesels RoadworkUK, Lacquer Peel, andrew e and 2 others 5
Lacquer Peel Posted May 20, 2016 Posted May 20, 2016 2.0 Petrol O-series engine DNA in these stillThey missed a trick by not spinning all their engines off the rugged O series and making lots of unrelated engines instead, I'm pretty sure VW only recently stopped producing engines based on their first in line 4s from the 70s. This car is such a bargain. The L series will tolerate a bit of veg too.
oldcars Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 That's very nice. Seats look really good, nothing like my project drive 75's.
Alexg Posted May 21, 2016 Author Posted May 21, 2016 Hi Shitters, Took this on the 25 minute blast home yesterday and it drives and rides OK, but sounds like someone's mic'ed-up the underbonnet of a mid 90's Transit during an Ice cold morning to the speakers at Glastonbury. I've had a quick Google and our ailment has a name. It appears we're suffering from appropriately titled 'Tractor Syndrome'. Apparently it's when the timing solenoid packs up. Bit of info here:http://www.rovertech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=132036 May explain why it's not quite as brisk as I'd anticipated either, Anyway, this should keep someone busy for a bit and with the bonus that it's now £320. Last chance before eBay tomorrow. Jazoli and Lacquer Peel 2
ruffgeezer Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 There is never any room at the bleddy inn when something fancy like this comes up. MUST SELL PUGOT
wuvvum Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Will this accept one of those Impreza WRX-humbling lunatic piggyback ECU boxes as per Wuvvum and the Doomrover?Nope - different pump. These can be upgraded however with a remap, Digimafam and 220 / 420 injectors (designed for the lower pressure VP37 pump so allow more fuel in when used with the VP30). Not as cheap or easy as the piggyback box, but can give some good results. Lacquer Peel 1
BavarianRetro Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 WTF is the point of this:- "Lesser Grenaded CLASS fore sayal - Now with TRACTOR SYNDROME, £320!!" Is it an "in joke"? Surely if you're trying to sell something, the title should clearly express what it is that is for sale order to garner interested potential buyers? If I have to spend 15 minutes decoding the title to work out what it's all about, chances are, I can't be arsed. Very wearisome. CGSB, Timewaster and Lacquer Peel 3
DeeJay Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 If I have to spend 15 minutes decoding the title to work out what it's all about, chances are, I can't be arsed. But you could, and commented dugong and fatharris 2
rantingYoof Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Lesser grenaded would refer to how this lovely Rover has an engine that is far less predisposed to kettle impersonations. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
worldofceri Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Because if the title was been 'Rover 45 diesel for sale VGC' I wouldn't have clicked it, but it isn't, so I did, and now I want to buy it, but I'm not going to. HTH. Lacquer Peel and brownnova 2
Mr_Bo11ox Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Just click the title so you can read the informative advert and clear pictures, problem solved! Hope this is some help to you. Lacquer Peel 1
BavarianRetro Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Nah that would just encourage the sad and ludicrous "faux retard" posting that some, obviously in the know and ubercool, members persist in. I still don't know what's for sale here. I assumed it was a Granada, now it appears to be a Rover of some sort. Oh well.
worldofceri Posted May 21, 2016 Posted May 21, 2016 Perhaps you've never met any in real life, but in my experience, roughly 0% of members of this forum are cool, let alone über cool. r.welfare, dugong, andrew e and 3 others 6
