Driving without MOT & Tax

I have a question.

Using our favorite "driving to a pre booked Mot" clause is all well and good and I believe you can also drive to pre arranged Mot repairs.

Question is: Can you drive to a pre arranged repair before you have had an Mot test. Does it need to have failed first?

I know the car will fail a test (crunchy sill) but I don't want a failure on corrosion to be recorded against the car.

You have to drive to a pre-booked MOT and then allowed to drive it home or a repair garage. You could risk driving it somewhere first, but I doubt it's 'legal'

Not unless you are using trade plates (which are not normally a substitute for a MOT, just tax, but make provision for road testing / repairing a car ready for a MOT)

This would suggest that it needs to have failed first.

Nope... can't drive a car with no mot unless it's to or from a test centre for a pre-bookend test.

Cambridgeshire.

Actually my friendly local garage has a flat bed recovery truck and he would shift it for a drink or six.

But the link says pre existing faults, could that include an advisory from last years test that would now fail. That is how I have always read it anyway.

Pre existing fault been some clumsy cunts put the trolly jack thru the crispest bit of sill instead of something more substantial?

I am sure it wouldn't be the first car to 'breakdown' (outside the place of fixing) on the way to it's MOT!

have a look for an advisory from the last couple of years, headlights or windscreen wipers are perfect.

Does it not say you can drive to and from an Mot and to and from a pre aranged place of Mot work,

Pretty sure it doesn't say it has to fail a test first though,

As long as it's insured and you have a pre booked appointment for Mot work or booked mot I can't see it being to much of a problem, unless you meet the world's most awkward copper.

As above, insure it and book it in for a test then drive it to wherever it needs to go. I've done it on numerous occasions. The last occasion was in a 309 that wasn't mine that broke down an hour from home, I called the AA who came out and fixed it but no doubt I'd have been able to get a tow home if it had come to it.

Not that I would ever condone driving *illeagully* and I haven't knowingly ever done so, but as long as you have insurance then no MOT is a fairly paltry fine, if you get pulled by a copper, explain the situation and don't come across a complete bell, they'll likely let you on your way anyway

Sadly,they won't.

Down south, they are allowed discretion for the first month, or in exceptional circumstances ( I got a tug 2 miles from the ferry port, coming back for a funeral, in a French legal car).

However, if it looks sound, and your attitude is reasonable,it's just a fine, currently£100.

Pain in the ass, but not the end of the world.

I used to have a link to the page that had this piece of legislation on so that if I ever got pulled over I could show the policeman it.

However, recently I had to drive the Jag to Leeds to get some codes read and couldn't find the link anymore.

What I did find though is the following link on the gov.uk website.

https://www.gov.uk/sorn-statutory-off-road-notification/overview

"You can only drive a vehicle with a SORN on a public road to go to or from a pre-booked MOT or other testing appointment. You face court prosecution and a fine of up to £2,500 if you use it on the road for any other reason."

Not as clear as it used to be as I agree it used to say you could take it to a designated place of repair after an MOT. But I am not sure that this is the case anymore as I can't find anything about it.

I had not had the MOT yet but rang up and booked it in for a code reading but asked for them to say it was booked in for an emissions test if I needed to call them.
