False start! Had to go home because I brought everything essential to the car but forgot the essential for me today - Strepsels.

Surely you mean Prozac?

Remember if attempting to drive home through London the place will be prepping for the Marathon tomorrow so a few roads are going to be snarled more than usual.

Probably easier to head east to the M25 and try and drive around the place

Thanks for that. Totally forgot. Glad I didn't decide to pick up tomorrow.

So I've bought jump leads, cheapy lidl 10mm-19mm sockets, diagnostic tool, waterproofs and breakdown details. Anything else I need for collecting a Laguna??

Train ticket booked for 12. Going to take 2 hours to London and then I guess an hour on the underground.

He's a Gonner for the Gooner but will the Gooner be a Goer....

If it needs a jump start, it'll only be a trickle so the 2amp jump leads will be fine. Any metric fixings will be almost falling off so the Aldi-On sockets will be fine.

Do tell me you packed some essentials....Gaffer Tape, Cable Ties and WD40

Essential fuel to stop me suffering a FTP.

If you're ever in Temple Meads train station in Bristol, check out Harts Bakery, just outside the station. Totally lush food.

Is that £2.80 for a sausage roll?

Yeah not the cheapest but fills you up as much as a sandwich. Much tastier than any prepackaged whsmith train station crap.

On the train now. A plentiful selection of German women's magazines to keep me entertained for the next 2hrs.

(Not that I can understand a word of German)

What are the mags for? Are you going to waft them over the gooner in faint hope that some of the "germany" wears off on it :)

Apparently we need to stop at Bradford upon Avon so the train manager can get out and sort a signalling problem! We're already late due to a "mechanical problem that does not affect safety".

Hopefully these failures aren't a sign of what's to come...

It's a Laguna, what could possibly go wrong...

If I win bollox's Goona I'm going to collect it without taking ANY TOOLS WITH ME AT ALL.

In fact, the only tool will be the one gormlessly sitting at the wheel.

So you'll be taking the "lucky rabbit's foot and rosary" approach?

I'm still struggling with price of the sausage rolls.

For that money, I'd expect to be nibbling little chunks of pastry from around the nipple of a fair maiden!

I'll be taking the "I've managed to FTP a Lexus LS400 so going on mystical backwards logic this Gooner will be the most reliable thing I've ever driven" approach.

Which is possibly very similar to, if not the same as, the rabbit's foot approach.

A belly full of Pork Garlic and Oregano should just brew up nice over a couple of hours, just in time to christen the Gooner seat with a nice big F444RRT, that is no ordinary sausage roll and will be the added value over a 99p version.

That'll will bugger up the seat belt warning sensor.

At Reading now, so only half left to London.

Jump leads and tools are in case I need to stop anywhere. These guys have had it in stock for the last 5 to 6 months, so God knows what state the battery is in.

Main things on this for me are to make sure the engine and gearbox are not to crap itself. As long as the gearbox oil is vaguely red, hopefully it'll be all OK!

Posted

Is it a done thing on winning a eBay auctions to request a test drive before handing over the cash?

I would like to make sure the gearbox does its stuff and not have crapped itself terminally...

Posted

I think you should be able have a quick blezz round the block before handing over the sponds, i would be a bit sus if a seller had a serious objection to that

Posted

Never been brave enough to buy a motor without a view and a test drive, but eBay description must be accurate, it's a Gooner so you will be OK.

Just tell the seller you've had a couple of those Pork and Garlic rolls, he will let you go solo

Nor have I! I usually like to have a very good look around before I think money. Often I've found that vast majority of second hand cars are junk.

It's at this stage all the possible failure points go around my head. Starting to get nervous now! I'm just glad it's only £520, and not a lot more.

Losing £500 would be annoying, but just about stomachable.

You're a brave soul and my cap is doffed to you. Looking forward to photographs.

Boop! Underground now. Contactless rocks!

No idea how much this is costing me now though...

Same as Oyster..... As I understood it

The max you can be charged in a day is capped at the cost of a one day off peak travel card for the zones you used
