Ka similarity to Classic Mini #3697 - Early shells are better at resisting rot.

R-W platers far more numerous round here than X on. My 'spare car' V-plater is less rotten than the 51 reg it replaced, the guy we sold the '51' to replaced it with an R reg.

Renault Scenic, most Kias Hyundais etc, newer VAG cars, Vectra, I've probably offended several people by saying I wouldn't have these so I apologise in anticipation before the Vectra apologists start vehemently fighting their case about how misunderstood the Vectra is. I've got a Focus no doubt loads of people dislike them. I'm not bothered though, I've bought it for me.

Hang on... I've not read the full thread here. Ace purchase there. I'd have a KA. I love filling in rusty holes and welding sills on.

Just because it's shit and gives me a different fault indication every time I start it up you wouldn't buy one?

Who are you to come in here and... etc

I miss the uncertainty that my vectra gave me everytime I went out in it - about whether or not it would complete it's journey.

It's the not knowing...

My dad for one raved about the one he had. He gets all defensive about them when the subject comes up. It's like he knows they are utter cack he just won't lose face on the matter.

what would i never own?

any bmw, ever, cos i hate them all, and any post 1992 VAG and post 1995 Merc, cos they are just crap.

otherwise, so long as the price is right, and depending on how desperate i was then i suppose anything would go.

even a bloody vectra......

Japanese. I know they're reliable, yet..........

Korean, ditto.

BL, Rover stuff. I had to deal with the shitheaps 25+ years ago. A blind alley of rust and oil leaks. They went down the pan for a good reason. A Princess maybe for comedy value but the eighties shite you can keep.

I like Ka's and would love a go in a Sport one. There are still quite a few about Gloucestershire. Not many second generation sold round here as they were gopping and not nearly like as good value - most salesman worth their salt could talk a punter into a Fiesta instead.

Were the Mk2s Panda or 500 based? I know Fiat built them.

Boringly reliable. But still reckon everyone needs one in their fleet, as it means you can take greater risks with stuff that is more exciting and has character (read as it breaks down more)

I quite like Ka's too. I remember (just) when they were launched and they did look super modern at the time. Weren't they the first example of their New Edge styling too?

All the Ka's I've been in have been first cars, and both were treated as such. By which I mean they died pretty quickly. In no way am I showing off or anything but the Ka remains the fastest car I have ever been a passenger in, an indicated 110mph. NEVER AGAIN.

Autoshite c.2035 will be all of us lamenting at how one just sold for 15k.

…maybe.

the mark 2 ka is based on the fiat 500, and built at the fiat plant in poland ome place called tychy. (i've never heard of it either!)

Sis in Germany had a 'special edition' Ka, light blue, leather, very smart. I hired one in Jersey a few years ago. I imagine it lasted for many, many years. Not.

It was ok to drive to be honest. Not sure I would pay actual money for one.

I had a Ka brand new in May 1999, T189YNU, now long dead alas. Superb little thing, did around 60k in 2 and a bit years.

Friends mum got a KA2 brand new at its launch. Remember driving about and people pointing and staring cos they had never seen anything like it. Driven a few and love them. Quite fancy owning one before they all dissolve. Anyone near Glasgow got a cheap one for sale?
