hairymel Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 Crackers! Is that an RX8 on the oval? yes - in the hotrods although it looked a bit agricultural and sounded most unrotarylike. loads about with dead engines but first one i have seen here. glad you noticed that as i couldnt get a pic of it myself and wanted to show my buddy who has just taken a £2k hit when his car had 'hot start' issues! I remember what you had to sort on your last one. This one, I suspect, is going to be nowhere near as bad as people expect. i honestly haven't examined it closely yet - there are areas that commonly are rotten that aint and usually sound areas which are not there anymore. time will tell i suppose andrew e 1
hairymel Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 m25 was rubbish as usual and everyone thought i had left a safe gap just for them to slip into. and then slam on their brakes. arseholes on the bright side sometimes i was stopped already home sweet home and almost bedtime bonnet is open to see if it will start sadly not yet! water pump is stuck solid but sans aux belt it turns over on the starter, much of the electricity is failing to go where it should and that stopped any further tinkering until a later date. I will leave you for tonight with a couple of close ups and a tribute to TooSavvy !COLLECTIONED! = Done vulgalour, Skizzer, Lacquer Peel and 23 others 26
trigger Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 All i will say is good luck with that!. Mind you look at the state of the other one you done before you started!
hairymel Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 yes trigger - but that never got finished though, and my latest one has not been touched for 18 months at least. i have another racecar project almost* started* before i can do anything on either of the sunbeams. i paid what seems a lot for this one but at the same time i think it is less than its flip value. hopefully - if not i will have to wait until it becomes 'the next mk1 escort' to recover my investment i haven't had grasp of a complete sunbeam for 20+ years so could not avoid aquisition!
greengartside Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I raise your Y517 JPU with my efforts... (Nice Mondeo too!) Good luck with the resto too, nothing else I can say apart from echoing what others have written - you sir are a brave man but after seeing your previous efforts I'm sure you'll have it finished by Thursday tea-time. hairymel 1
Skizzer Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 That is outstanding work. You've got some stones, man. All that brightwork says GLS to me, by the way. Really looking forward to following your progress on this one!
hairymel Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 although a 'lot' is less than a higher end smartphone. rusty sunbeam or I-phonewhateverthefucknumberitisxsigti one is likely to be landfill in a couple of years, and the other will still be nice to look at. i made my choice CGSB, brownnova and Chris2cv 3
hairymel Posted April 10, 2016 Author Posted April 10, 2016 I raise you ... (Nice Mondeo too!) ah but mine is a plain clothes 1.6 so you win - the mondeo is a 2.5v6 zetec-s though and there is a (cost=free!) lpg saloon v6 hidden behind the other cars as well All that brightwork says GLS to me, by the way. my thoughts as well - 6 dial dash and electronic oil level warning , rear wash wipe etcgot no paper work for it yet though!shh dont tell the gubbermint
Richard Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 It's definitely an S or GLS, probably a GLS if it's on a T plate. For some reason the GL came with nice wheels while the GLS got gash wheel trims. If it's a late T plate it should have the more powerful version of the 1.6 engine with the 175 carb.
BorniteIdentity Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 This thread has given me the confidence to park the Sierra base outside my house, rather than hidden in the garage. You're clearly fucking unhinged. Regular updates please... Chris2cv, saucedoctor, Timewaster and 1 other 4
Asimo Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I'd like a go at that electronic ignition module with the green crusty power transistor!
Alexg Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Jesus man, you'll need a deep influx of breath before prodding about that properly.
Bstardchild Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 So did we establish if donor or being donated too? I realise you are keen to replace 274 (pbvipusly not pheonix from the ashes) but I thought you had alrealy got another base unit.
hairymel Posted April 11, 2016 Author Posted April 11, 2016 On my not-so-smart-phone so replying is painful! Brief update : Went to unit to mount a tyre for bananatruck owner but had a fiddle with the sunbeam instead lol Waterpump and alternator seized but engine turns over with the aux belt cut off. Carb full of (live) spiders. Weak orange spark @ plugs. Tries to fire a bit with a mixture of petrol and brake cleaner poured into the carb inlet. Got some flames shooting out the carb and a lot of smoke? vapour? From the breather. My daughter is feeling poorly so had to stop there. No real plans to get it running until a further investigation of the body structure, but i couldn't help myself Sent from my 4018X using Tapatalk Dick Cheeseburger, Eddie Honda and Bfg 3
hairymel Posted April 12, 2016 Author Posted April 12, 2016 still, it is a Chrysler one and not Talbot my preference is for an s2 facelift ie talbot i'm afraid It's definitely an S or GLS, probably a GLS if it's on a T plate. For some reason the GL came with nice wheels while the GLS got gash wheel trims. If it's a late T plate it should have the more powerful version of the 1.6 engine with the 175 carb. gash wheels and trims present! This thread has given me the confidence to park the Sierra base outside my house, rather than hidden in the garage. flaunt your jellymould, your neighbors will all be envious I'd like a go at that electronic ignition module with the green crusty power transistor! it does seem to be doing something ! Jesus man, you'll need a deep influx of breath before prodding about that properly. i find holding my breath before i prod it works better So did we establish if donor or being donated too? nope I realise you are keen to replace 294 (pbvipusly not pheonix from the ashes) but I thought you had alrealy got another base unit. I have 1 and a half other shells Ian , but, and heres where i can see your confusion - i am allowed as many as i want/can afford

AnthonyG Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Wow. Good luck with that one. Speedy Spares of Brighton might have some bits, although I'm not sure they would have front wings... They bought most of RJGrimes stock and I bought many a part for my Avenger there. Wonder what engine was in that RX8? Be great if it was something totally random like a tuned Pinto.
Guest alpus1 Posted April 14, 2016 Posted April 14, 2016 I've taken a few photos myself of this car. I first came across it in the summer. The not so famous Wraysbury Sunbeam needs saving. Glad you've got it. Are you going to banger racer it?https://www.flickr.com/photos/alpus/25825824593/in/dateposted-public/https://www.flickr.com/photos/alpus/20176457235/in/photolist-Fm96TP-FRijYw-wt79xM-zGWz9S-wJVBNk-rcxLeb-vBSwmU-whgLVd-AHC3nB-wJVwFX-rvoQ6M-uDS76M-qShEZQ-qGto7D-qFFW6j-qFG6sf-q2grey-qXyrLe-q1HbSm-q1VD68 hairymel 1

Looks surprisingly solid considering, and the fact the chassis rails and floors still have the original underseal on them is excellent news. Reckon the Ziebart has saved this one. johngarty Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 If this car ever sees an MOT and the queens highways again it will be a better achievement than Leicester winning the prem.
Chris2cv Posted April 16, 2016 Posted April 16, 2016 Good luck with this. You are much braver than me! Will be interested to see what you do with it.
