.... two kids, consuming burgers with 'added horse'??

I'd have em in - throwing up over the rear 3/4 (for correct perspective... I mean, if the window was OPEN >> lol)

I'll be honest with you, I think the car's being a touch ungrateful at the moment.

Booked the car for an MOT and few jobs for tomorrow. Bloke has raced pinto cars all his life and seemed very excitable at the prospect of meeting GVG.

Went to collect it tonight...

Wouldn't start. Just wouldn't catch and then the battery declared.

Managed to get it started after I walked two miles home again to get my car.

Running on 1.74 cylinders.... I flipped the bonnet up. I mean, what the fuck do I know? Anyway went to check the leads and got a shock for asking. Ouch. Seems that the king lead is arcing on the cap.

Is this why ?

I'm a bit nervous about visable sparks and a petrol engine.

Should I be? It's running like a POS but would like to keep the appointment if possible.

Thoughts ?

I think you need a new cap man! I'd also invest in new leads and rotor arm whilst at it too

I have most of the service items in the car. The dude doing the MOT has a load of spares so was going to do leads etc tomorrow.

Safe to run it, or do I need to change it myself before taking it?

Never done one before... obviously.

My old cortina looked like a jean michel jarre concert when you put the bonnet up at night. I'd lash the leads together with some electrical or gaffa tape . I'm sure it'll be fine for a few miles .

Where is junkman's stamp?

kidding. But that dizzy cap is only fit for the bin. The leads too probably.

It is a pretty standard bosch cap. Shouldn't be a problem to find.

If yer man is a pinto guru then he probably has a box full.

It's only a 10 min job to change the cap,but if you're not sure then it's Soooooo easy to mix up the order the plug leads fit onto the cap.....

I personably wouldn't run it like that, only going to cause more issues

Brilliant. Didn't think of electrical tape. I have many reels.

Somewhere.

Always where you didn't think you left it.

Do you already have a replacement cap? If so you could pop the old one off leaving the leads on and fit the new cap and then move each leads one at a time to the new cap in the same order they came off the old one. Take a photo before hand if it helps.

No. Didn't get one as the car ran pretty well on the way back from London. It will have a new one by tomorrow... because my arm is still a bit sore !

I'm just loving this thread! My local dealer Days in Swansea had a blue Base model in the showroom to complement it's Coral beige 1.6l demo car on launch week!

I've just seen this Mk1 dent free door on eBay complete with dangly mirror.....would this be worth keeping in mind for future bodywork titivation?

That's a good thought, but I'm still getting yelled at by the guy we bought a wing off back in March because we haven't collected it yet.

That Sierra shell looks like an estate :(

A 30+ year old Ford was always going to need some mig action to keep it unholy. Hope the orange bits aren't too holy.

Ah, you doubting pessimists. I confidently* predict it will sail through* with flying colours*.

I'll say one thing for the ol' misery box, it seems pretty solid. I'll be surprised if it needs a lot of sparkly tickling.

But please note that I've been wrong before, more than a few times.

They're doing a bit of fettling before the test. Nothing major, but it needs a flasher unit for the hazards and and one of the number plate lamps has fallen into the bumper.

I didn't want a fail followed by a pass... and neither did the man... so he's getting it right first.

Hopefully this time tomorrow we'll have some news.

On the positive side, it's a bonus to find out it has a foglamp.

Hopefully the grot isn't too bad as the rest looks pretty straight forward.

See, just like a Ford. 😕

Mind you a few small patches, adjust the carb, pair of wiper blades and a few bulbs and hopefully she'll be right as a rain again.

Chill brah, a 30+ yr-old ford passing the MOT with no welding is fairly unlikely at the best of times, it'll all work out OK
