Car hunting, URGH

I'm sorry for quoting this, but who the hell thought that was a suitable place for a child to put the money in?

I can offer no sensible advice on what Felly should do, I sympathise that time is running out and whilst I understand the desire to be no worse off than before, it might make sense to just get the cheapest thing with the longest ticket that comes up, to tide things over for a few weeks/months to let things settle down while a bit can be saved up towards something else.

I don't want to come across as an arrogant twat (even though I am), I've been there, where my only car packed in an expensive way (Rear diff gave up on a car that didn't share the axle with anything else and that you won't find in a scrapyard) I was lucky and got loaned an Allegro, it used more oil than petrol as the valve stem seals had gone, but it was transport. I had to leave earlier for work to allow for time to stop and clean/swap the plugs on the way into work. What I'm trying to say is don't try too hard to get perfection straight away

Adds a whole new meaning to the phrase "the money shot."

I've read that Fellys been to look at the blue 02 plate Focus I posted early on in the thread for £795, the sellers willing to fix some faults, fit new tyres and put a new mot on it but Felly is unhappy as it has a scab and the wipers don't self centre, honestly.

Please tell me you're kidding...

LOL!!!! He must have been able to read something between the lines etc.

I just read the same on Felly's FB.  'Twould appear to be the truth!

IIRC the focus wiper not parking problem is a special relay in the fusebox in the glove box. Remember it being on a problem on a focus I helped a mate buy 4 years ago (£2k for it too with that problem - had a huge dent in the back too! Only 65k miles tho...). I swapped the rear wiper and the front wiper ones around until I got time to go to a ford dealer to get a replacement one.

Frigging hell. You know he's going to end up with some mega-miles finance-repo hand grenade just because it's had a quick blowover to hide its decrepitness.

The chap is in a shit position, granted, however there have been some great options thrown into the mix, including free cars.

sometimes beggars cant be choosers*

* not calling anyone a beggar, :)

A 1.6 pez Focus, well renown for their frugal running costs.....

I also can't remember ever trying out the windscreen wipers on a car I've test driven, is this me being proper lax or FM being all OTT-OCD about checking potential cars?

Having £800 to spend on any car you like.

Not as bad as prostate cancer, but I'm sure we would all agree that it would be a horrible horrible position to find oneself in.

I've seen the post on Facebook. Not seen the updates though. Oh dear.

As for 800 quid to spend on a motor I'm sure I can find 4 for that in total on bumtree

it's more the imposition of having to sort another car out, budget is more than enough for a run around. the kia on the ebay thread makes me want to go nd buy it because it's only 150 quid, 150 quid for a running mot'd car. makes me want to sack my daily off and just keep buying shit cheap cars.

Found in possession of a starting pistol and an alternator?

There must be a joke about being charged with starting something if I could but think of it.

Throwing an alternator?

If it wasnt functioning, how could they charge him?

Sensible post until you mentioned you now can afford something better than a Capri 3.0S

My 3.0S cost £600 in '92. I wish I'd kept it.

I see he AdamAntly denied the charges against him.

I'll get my combat jacket and flat cap...

I got arrested for stealing car batteries. Police took me to the station, and the Sergeant said "Put him in a dry cell and we'll charge him in the morning. Make sure he doesn't start anything."

I got arrested for stealing fireworks.

They just waited for it to get dark and then let me off though.

Any pics? I went halves on a tidy 1979 3.0S about 1995 - them were the days!
