Can't get shut of scrap

Recommended Posts

I've been breaking a Mondeo for a while and need to get the shell shifted to make way for a new arrival but can I feck get rid of the remnants, phoned the local scrap magnate and he informed me he's even knockin back free small cars as it's not worth sending the wagon out.

Grrrrr... it can't be that grim in the scrap game  can it?

.

I should have left my number for the free small cars shouldn't I!

Price of steel is on it's arse - a stripped shell is worth buttons

You'll be able to find a local pikey that'll take it away via your local "cars for sale" page on facebook though

Big angle grinder? I have done it a couple of times, once a Sierra once an mx5. It took a couple of hours to get to,estate car boot size pieces.

Scrap is on it's arse indeed, hence the lack of transit flatbeds on the prowl nicking pushbikes out of one's back garden

It's going to cost you one way or the other I'm afraid :-(

Lie! Tell him its a 57 plate focus you want rid of... and when he gets there tell him someone picked it up already and you thought it was him... but there's a scrap shell if you want it ?

I've loads of stainless kitchen equipment in the back carpark as we have just spent half a mil on a new kitchen at work, I cannot get anyone to come and pick it up, its getting on my bloody nerves to be honest, there must be a couple of tons of it at least.

It's 'get shot of', not 'get shut of'.

Isn't scrap down to £20 per tonne or something crap?

Posted

£20 would be up!

last time scrap was this low (1998-9) I had to cut an imp shell up with a hacksaw and take it to the tip a bit at a time.

(Transit van and man with his arse hanging out taking a fairy clad Citroen to the bridge)

I was charged with scrapping the Blister in laws Xsara recently and most places i rang wouldn't give anything for it if they had to collect it and only £10 if i dropped it off at the yard myself.

After a few calls i did find a guy who came out and collected it for £25 but only because it still had a genuine cat on it.

He was moaning he had just picked up a 405 and realised too late that it was pre '90's so didn't have a cat so that was his diesel money for the day gone.

Just checked and stainless is around the £500 per ton,

Really? fuck it I'll hire a van and scrap it myself then

Ours does that at least once a year. Shuts the main East coast line too because of tyre smoke and gas cylinders. I paid £25 to get the Almera taken away, hard to believe a car has actually no value at all..what in these days of enviroment and stuff. What are they gonna build new cars from? Scrap on it's arse, oil on it's arse, but all I see are new Audi minibuses. What gives?

I've sold a couple of batteries to the scrap man this week at a fiver each and he still makes profit on them.

I hope the price of batteries rockets to £3000 each- it'll get rid of all these leaves.

I assume the price of lead / whatever else is in batteries is still pretty strong then

Last time I did a scrap run (when £150 for a car was still pretty common) I was given many many times more for 8 batteries than a few hundred kilos of mixed steel

Aye. A girl I worked with (in 1993) cut up a 2.8 ghia X Granny, in order to contribute the running gear to a Cobra Replica, sold all the "bits" (in the Redditch WHY) she didn't need, then angle grinded the shell into lumps that would fit into the boot of her boyfriends car, and insisted that he go to work via the local tip every day for 2 weeks.

I assume you stand no hope of getting a certificate of destruction for a car if you take it to the scrappy in bits like that?

We are no longer allowed to leave our plastic boxes outside in the yard any more as they are being nicked in large numbers. Whereas old shelving/display units are being ignored.

I can't remember the last time I saw a drain cover missing on the road either.

Those stainless tables make excellent work benches for workshops, get on and eBay them!

Where are you located?

It has to be clean for that price or you get mixed scrap value which is shite,
