Who is best for multicar/classsic insurance?

The trouble with all the online quoting software is that it just doesn't work as it makes too many assumptions. As soon as you fall outside that narrow band, it's phone/person/manual underwriting time.

I'm with Admiral, currently something like £1800 for a year at the moment with the 5 cars on the policy just now. Everything covered as well as courtesy car. I'm 22 years old with 3 years NCB, cars all have different excess as well. It's not an average collection for my age...

Thats a Lexus LS400, Suzuki Cappuccino, Honda Civic Aerodeck, Abarth 595 and an Audi A4 1.8 quattro Sport.

I'm not covered to drive the Audi though. Thats my dads, who has his own policy but it's parted with mine....I've no idea how that works. But It still counts as under my policy and I have to foot the bill for it! (He does give me the money for it though)

The big price is due to my age...

I've just spent the last hour on the phone and footman James WILL NOT i repeat WILL NOT Insure the Sierra as its not a classic, his words not mine.

So how are others getting newer cars on classic policy's?

RH Insurance will but no cheeper than normal Insurance.

FJ insurance will insure colt but not Sierra.

Who's next to try as normal insurance wanted to much.

RH are very good, just expensive if you have more than one car insured because they don't seem to offer a multi-car discount.

Try Lancaster and Peter James.

Lancaster have been a pain for me in the past.

Was gonna try PJ next

BG insurance are cheap. Don't know about service as I've not had to use it so far.

I do suffer irrational anger over the security questions though..........especially when they ring me or I just want to pay them.

Rover is 80 quid a year with agreed value.

Had quote about 2 hours ago for Chevy pickup and that was only £89

I spent 40mins on the phone to FJ yesterday getting a quote to compare with my RH renewal notice.

Cars to be covered are ’96 Lexus (just about squeaked into their 20yr minimum requirement), ’88 Sunny, ’80 Laurel and ’73 1200. Latter two garaged at home and agreed value, newer ones on the driveway. I had no question about their classic status and I stated I wasn’t in any paid-up clubs (forums apparently don’t count).

RH want £497, FJ are £486. However, if I remove breakdown cover from the FJ quote then I can bring it down by £100 (I just need to check that my AA policy is adequate for the older cars). There are also one or two extras in the quote which could be removed and will bring it closer to £350.

The FJ policy is with Ageas, includes commuting and Class 1 business use and although I agreed to a 10k mileage limit across all four cars it ended up being unlimited.

I’ve been with RH for 15+ years, but they recently changed hands and for almost £150 saving I think I will swap.

Hold on a Mo, you got a 96 car on but I was just told I couldn't put a 91 on as it's to new, wtf

Even there own website says 30plus for classic policy's

I rang one of the 01384 numbers direct on this page and spoke to a lady called Christine:

Before I started listing them she said 20 years was the limit. Perhaps it helps going through to the 'private clients' team?

Also spent an hour on the phone to Footman James.  To insure 1 x 1982 Mazda; 1 x 1995 Volvo (hypothetical 'cos I don't have one); and 1 x 2011 Kia Venga = £273 p/y.  That's on their multi-car policy, where the majority of cars have to be "classics"*.  Seeing as I pay £175 p/y for the Kia (sorry youngsters) and £100 for the classic Mazda, that basically means a 3rd or 4th car could be insured free. Plus I can would then have unlimited mileage and business use on the "classics"* and the NCB would be maintained on the modern Kia.

*OK, so what is a "classic". It differs but the examples they gave were a 20 year old Peugeot, Volvo or Ford. A 15 yr old VW. A 5 yr old Jaguar. With exceptions, for example GTis and Ltd editions Peugeots <20 yrs. You can find out if your car is a "classic" by phoning them up or using the online quote generator.

Just need a 20 yr old Volvo or whatever now.  Man maths says its not going to cost anything (conveniently ignores road tax, repairs, etc).

Just rang the number and the womman couldn't understand why I had been told the Sierra was to new, result is a quote for the Sierra at £148 with 3k limited mileage,

Now that is the same price as my fully comp hippo with unlimited mileage and 8 times more value,

Oh she couldn't do multicar and suggested starting this policy and calling to add the rest when I'm ready, eh that's now

I've bene with Richardsen Hosken (R&H) for over ten years and they've truly been great

Cars go on and off the policy and any pro-rata refund is prompt.  Very lean on their charges, compared to many I could mention

I added my 1990s Daimler XJ40 to my policy for £66 full-comp inc Green Flag.  My policy doesn't renew until November.

Another recommendation for Footman James here, they were the cheapest quote and also had some pretty decent 'optional add-ons' like commuting, option to keep the car at no cost of its a write-off, driving other classics etc etc

Ive never used Lancaster myself but a friend did and got had over when he changed vehicles with massive cancellation charges that exceeded the cost of the original premium. And they wouldn't swap the policy to his new car because it was a 'different category of classic'

Firmly on my avoid list
