The Moog Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Mr Njgleeds delivered a pair of shiny properly fitting discs. My mate was helping out today and quite enjoyed it. The post cat oxygen sensor had flagged up on the dash. New one purchased and lobbed in. The connector disappeared somewhere inside the car so would deal with that later. I had purchased an oxygen sensor kit that came with thread chasers to clean out the threads which worked well. Old rear calipers are dead Shiny discs on Everything was bolted back together (sort of) and handbrake adjusted. Time to tackle sensor wire. I started ripping out the interior until Mr Leeds suggested it was under the drivers left foot rest. Bish bash bosh and code cleared. Jobs a good un. Except brakes felt a bit iffy. Drove home and pedal went to the floor. Quick trip back to the garage and back up into the air - some idiot (me) hadn't properly tightened the caliper flexis once installed on car. All sorted and bled again, brakes are ace. New rule is Moog are you sure it is done up tight! Lacquer Peel, Uncle Jimmy, Tickman and 3 others 6
SRi05 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Nice to see this thing get some love, it's a good mota The Moog 1
Stanky Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 nice work, brakes scare me still, even after stripping them right down on the Geep when i had it. Whats the plan with those calipers? Will they get the vinegar treatment or are they just scrap? The Moog 1
Shirley Knott Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 The Lidl socket set looks a bargain, I've heard good things re the quality of their tools. I bought a cheap 1/4 set from Aldi about 3 years ago that's survived relentless abuse and is still going strong somehow against all the odds. Also really impressed with the results of the white vinegar, I wouldn't have expected it to work that well but the results speak for themselves! The Moog 1
Jim Bell Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Oohh I might take you up on it - I am hoping it will be the radio as there isn't much else in the mx5 that needs pixies.b Fingers crossed man. If you can use it just send me your address and I'll pop it in the post. The Moog 1
The Moog Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Calipers are scrap. Totally rusted and seized.
Jim Bell Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Calipers are scrap. Totally rusted and seized. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The Moog 1
The Moog Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 Tiny tinkering over this week. Mazda first The door cards on it aren't the greatest so swapped them over with AVO Speakers have seen better days Armrest off The car getting wet has ruined the door cards. You can see it here. The cards pretty much fell apart. New ones are better Then removed the mismatched wheels and put the mini steels on them The rainsport tyres are pretty much toast so will need to be replaced sooner rather than later. LancerThis is going to be a keeper so the bulb illuminating heater controls moved from annoying to urgent. Front comes off easily Bulb out It has a little blue Johnny on it to make it a nicer light I think Replaced Lovely old job. Next couple of things are to fit a quick charger instead of a cig lighter - using sat nav can drain the phone a bit too quickly, then fit reversing sensors as the blacked out windows can make it challenging. Supernaut Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 That head unit you have in the Lancer looks weird, like it's bulging out in the middle. What is it? It's also nice to see that the heater controls bulb in a modern* (relative to my car) is still just as simple to replace. The Moog 1
NorthernMonkey Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I’ve had those bulbs in stock for 4 years and this is the first one to be used. Only another 19 to go... LightBulbFun and The Moog 2
The Moog Posted March 1, 2019 Author Posted March 1, 2019 It's a mechless unit. The reason it looks bulky is it has a flip down front that doubles as a phone holder. It means I can leave it in sight for sat nav without having an extra holder Supernaut, LightBulbFun, loserone and 1 other 4
Rave Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 I've got one that looks (and probably is) identical; it came fitted to my jag. I found it a pain to use, and sound quality and volume were very noticeably improved when I bunged in a Sony CD unit that I got from Bub. So if anyone wants it for postage cost they'd be welcome to it.
The Moog Posted March 4, 2019 Author Posted March 4, 2019 Slight Lancer update - Since making sure all the brakes work, the tyres are much less shit! So I apologise to those at JingJungLo for doubting the adequateness of their tyres. It looks like having back brakes means the front tyres arent doing all the work so therefore the abs isnt kicking in every five minutes.
The Moog Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 Time to make slight improvements on the lancer. Currently using satnav plus Bluetooth meant that the phone battery used to slowly disappear even when plugged into the charger. Browsing eBay I came across quick charge cig lighter replacements - just the thing. The centre console had been removed when we were installing the oxygen sensor. Time to remove old lighter The replacement It's a bit of a chunky munkey so needs a tickleBish bash bosh ConnectedBack in the carTo check So turbo charged power now. Pulled off the silly cover as it was just flopping about In other news I seem to have bought an 04 golf with dodgy clutch for not many monies. Plan is to collect it, fix clutch and then sell it on. dome, DVee8, Uncle Jimmy and 2 others 5
The Moog Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 Today I am off to London to visit puss in laws and also collect a golf with a dodgy clutch. Of course to complicate matters I am heading in the wrong direction, to the land of Wilsonsquared. Leaving work I applied these To walk through here We are a bit suspicious of technology round here, so thoughtfully the council has put a sign up for foreigners in case they ask to tap and go Big praying house Where da yoof hangout with trousers around their bottoms, spitting lines and other things The city of culture status has eluded us so far.... Not sure why .. ducks on buildings are the best thing ever Magical pixies for juvenile trains was ere The BFG obviously designed the ticket machine, I mean privacy is an overrated concept And now I wait..... jumpingjehovahs, loserone, Tickman and 3 others 6
The Moog Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 I think I have found LBF house Odd place to park Jim Bell, stonedagain, loserone and 2 others 5
LightBulbFun Posted March 20, 2019 Posted March 20, 2019 I think I have found LBF house Odd place to park its about (considering im pretty much confined to a small bed room) the same size! not a bad idea to solve the Invacar parking issue however
The Moog Posted March 20, 2019 Author Posted March 20, 2019 Scrap itHaven't even collected it yet! Although that would double the price I have paid Lacquer Peel 1
