R52 MINI Cooper £1500...testing the water

Would anybody on here be interested in my wife's car? She's after something bigger which we can get the dog, and bikes into (anyone would think she doesn't like the Kangoo!) so this needs to go. It has a slightly strange spec of full leather (most only have half) and panoramic sunroof but no AC. Wood effect dash if that floats your boat. Caramac colour interior too :-)

She's owned it 4 years and 75k miles, doing 80 miles a day which it has coped with well. I wasn't a fan to start with, but once we started working in the same area I ended up driving it and have to admit it is quite fun to drive!

It's been 100% reliable and I've done all the maintenance on it, including a recent new PS pump, front to rear brake lines, and radiator in the last year. Both front wheel bearings have also been changed.

EDIT - forgot to mention that it will have 12 months MOT - she took it for a test and it failed on a track rod end and the airbag warning light. I've sorted the TRE and she'll get the garage to sort out the airbag light. Sadly my bluetooth OBD dongle won't diagnose the airbag ECU :-(

Here are some photos from today:

I thought these were worth about eleventy billion to almost any bird who can drive? That seems really cheap....

I dunno, not really looked at prices but Station was advertising his for £1600 earlier. Figuring that 130k miles might put 'normal' people off too...

Whoever ordered that without AC was a proper muppet.

Sad as it sounds, I would find it hard to consider a daily driver without AC - I've really got used to it, I hate being too warm in a car. Even the sight of someone driving whilst wearing a coat makes me feel all queasy.

Anyway, it's a shame since that colour/interior is a bit different. Nice different.

That is the weirdest spec I've seen yet.  If I owned it I'd get hold of some fake carbon look sticky plastic and "fix" the dash. I'm opposed to fake wood.

I don't need another R52 (wife is complaining that squeezing her 76 year old mum into the back and her 80 year old 6 foot 4 inch dad into the front is starting to be a pain), but the highish miles, if there is proof of oil changes, would not put me off.

strange to see 15 inch alloys on a cooper. I assume that there is no spare wheel.

R52 = Supercharger? They make a lovely noise when on full chat. There are some YouTube vids of a modified one. I would.

If I had the dosh I most certainly would. I intend to own one of these at some point.

Anyone want to buy a white Sierra?

R53 = supercharged. If this was a Cooper S, sans AC, with pano roof, the sonic boom from me reaching for my credit card would have been deafening.

I reckon whoever ordered sunroof, no AC, was bang on - because really, how many 04-plate cars have actually working AC, and how many shiters CBA getting it regassed/fixed?

Neither would I, but she was not fussed. And there are some people who actively dislike it, although if I was one of them and buying a new car, I'd still spec it and just not turn it on!

Not sure if it counts as proof, but has 'proper' SH for the first 55k miles, and then an Excel sheet with receipts while she's had it. Always used the correct fully synthetic oil etc. At least it always gets properly warmed up every day!

No spare wheel but comes with compressor and sealant. Never had to use it but we got a new bottle when she got the car. Yes, 15" wheels so would imagine rides better than the larger variants. Although still not exactly cosseting over potholes!

£1500 is cheap, I thought mine was a bargain. These are nowhere near as icky as I feared they might be; I quite like mine (the ex-Station one), it's a bit civilised for me, I don't find the ride harsh, but then I normally drive the Land Rover.

Not sure which I will keep when (if) the Smart Roadster ever comes back, knowing me will probably get rid of both and buy something more unsuitable.

That is one hell of a bargain.. I think the mini is a great little motor to drive I think yours even comes with the much improved getrag box as its on the changeover year on an 04..

Whereabouts is your car located as I think one of the blokes at my work was looking for a cheap mini and I can ask him tomorrow.

Buy one with full service history and as many options as possible, and post 04 to avoid the old gearboxes. I miss mine but I no longer had a use for it.

These are brilliant, they have so many positives going for them.

It's North Wales (LL41) I'm afraid, miles from most places! But a scenic drive back...

Yes, it does have the later gearbox - no problems with it apart from a sticky cable pivot on top of the box a couple of years back, which I stripped and lubricated.

And another.

Actually really want this, but can't bring myself to sell the Beetle unless it's behaving (locks/boot misbehaving) and if I make the Beetle work, can't justify changing it.

But soon. Soon I will be able to afford an R50-series MINI. 'cause they do handle rather nicely.

Now has 12 months MOT as of today. Airbag light went off with a reset and no charge for the diagnostics, bonus!

A few more photos of it - I like the reflections on some of them!
