Perhaps. It's difficult to tell a genuine mondeo "fanboy" from your average Mike brewer that wants to ebay flip it at 10 times what it's worth with white background photos and some auto glym floor mats. An established club would carry weight, and autoshite could be that club 🙂 I've had a mk3 estate in old man gold but never a mk1. Something about ford estates just do it for me. Definately would have a mk1 as you just don't see them

Also...to bring up the famous old chestnut, there's a lot of banger boys that hang around the Facebook groups. I'm not judge and jury about what people do in their spare time - and they do often have parts to sell to keep other cars going to be fair - but sometimes it can be a bit like vultures circling!

Here's a K reg Mondeo that i snapped a couple of years ago fading away in a front garden in North London, there is a still an L reg local to me in use!

I’m up for a potential crowdfund ‘pot chuck’ on the K-plate estate,  a-la Sierra bASe, if it ever came to fruition.

Why?

1. One of the few K-plate estates ever made, now probably the only one in existence - happy to be corrected. An incredible survivor make no mistake.

2. Ford press vehicle & magazine-featured provenance.

3. Ghia model with every single option ticked so it’s rare in itself.

4. Perfect Autoshite criteria. Hard to believe it’s as old as it is, really.

5. Want to see if ‘Midnite’ will boil his swede again over this.

thanks, yes that one is on my list, hasn't had an MOT since they were computerised (pre 2005!)

It’s the age old situation, someone needs one shifting, the enthusiasts group fanny around asking silly questions and just end up a general PITA. The banger racer turns up within the hour, pays in cash and fucks off. 
 

Realistically as you say the Banger Racers pass on a lot of decent spares on vehicle that in all honesty are never going to see the road again.

The top one looks like Java Blue. Car Mechanics Magazine ran L739LGS, a Java Blue 1.8LX as a project car during 1999, sadly scrapped a few years ago. It had 141k on the clock when they bought it in late 1998 and when they sold it in early 2000 had 160k on the clock

That black LX saloon is a marvellous find. Nice number plate. It's a 1.8 Automatic too, so quite a rare model even when current. Even in those days, I don't remember noticing any black Mondeos, if at all. I do know that metallic Ash black was available on the early ones, but I just never really noticed any. Maybe black wasn't all that popular? I can't really see through the windows to check if it has a Pumice interior, it would be great if it does. Also, was solid black available on the mk1?

The Java Blue 1.8 LX is the last of the short-lived black-top bumper models being a February 1994 registration which is when fully colour coded bumpers came in. Although we would all prefer the factory LX wheel trims all day long, those wheel trims do look to be very recently fitted so the car is clearly well cared for still.

Is it black or dark blue? State blue can look very dark. The bottom car does look very black but like you cannot ever recall seeing a black mk1 or 2 for that matter!

They definitely did them, I’ve seen them. Not popular though, this was the 90’s so even the ghastly purple on Mk2 were popular.

I got the information from Total Car Check that confirmed it is indeed black. State Blue didn't exist until mid-1995 so the car would have to be at least a late M reg. I believe State Blue replaced Java Blue as it happens. @Al_Walter, can you help?

L555WEL is definitely black, I've seen it for myself.

Interesting history too.  Same keeper since 1999 but no MOT history until 2013, so off the road for at least seven years.   Then another three year spell with no MOT from 2016 to 2019.

Colour range Feb 1994

There was a very dark solid blue called Ontario Blue. 

The latest brochure I have that includes Java Blue (metallic) is October 1995 and the next brochure I have is April 1996 which includes State Blue instead.

@beko1987 has kindly done some 'K reg analysis' which lets me run a few more numbers more easily. For example, for known K reg cars on my list without an MOT - we can see how many years it is since they've had a valid test. Bit pressed for time today, but should be able to work out some other stuff too! Thanks Beko...

Poor old K977 OOU wins the crown from your list of dying the youngest from being an taxed driven car (not sure how to read the tax status, I'm guessing scrapped from being taxed is un-taxed, if a car was on sorn when it was swept up onto the flatbed does it stay as sorn forever?

Here's an L Reg Estate seen in London last year, its still taxed and MOT'd, closest i've seen to holy grail of a K Reg Estate!

I've got a couple more older pics of L Reg Saloons that have probably been scrapped by now, if anyone is interested i'll post them.

My RS2000 4x4 was Java Blue,1 of 3 sold.

Of course. Well get your post count up to 10 soon I think which means you don't get pre-modded? Can't remember what the number is now.

As promised, here's a couple more L reg Mondeos, the silver one was a ULEZ scrap victim back in Oct 2023, a shame as it looked well cared for and was snapped in Central W.London , the red one had an MOT untl fairly recently, not sure if its since been scrapped, the pic was from 3 or 4 years ago someone in the London/Essex Borders.
