'93 Mondy thread - clock bulb fixed (the little things)

I have not much interest in Diana or her cars, but since the subject has come up, and there are clearly experts around, I will mention this.

Back in the 1980s I bought a dreadful Fiat 124 Estate for beer money.   There were never many of these around.  At the time I knew a gentleman locally who was quite a high - up executive in Fiat UK.   When he heard about this car, he told me that it was the car in which Diana had learnt to drive.   He had no reason to lie about this, and was in a position to have some inside knowledge.   I didn't bother much about it, had more important things to do, never checked it out and have never seen any evidence such as a photo.   I know she had a new Mini Metro at one stage, so it would presumably have predated that - maybe an old car from someone in the Spencer family.

Does anyone know more?  I had some good use from it, and scrapped it in the end.  Yeah, it would be worth a fortune now. ðŸ™„

I think I've seen a clip of her driving a Renault 5 around the time she first became famous.

Not only was my first car a Renault 5, but it was USB361T!  Same series as Di's R5.  Argyll registrations.  Made it to London somehow.

Would definitely get the inner wishbone bushes checked to make sure it’s not going to scrub the tyres off.

Yes, agreed, that would be a waste, but Rob's only using it round the doors at the mo.

Yes that's the one, I think there's some news footage of her getting in or out of it.

Never seen this doc before. But at £25 won't be buying it, but features loads of early SVE and TCE K-reg cars. Rubs trousers.

Once it’s in the Classic car press these days it’s a toss up whether your money is better spent on a Hargreaves Lansdown Global Markets 2 or a 1995 Mondeo 1.8 LX.

I've only ever seen one K Plate Estate which was K577 BNE. Annoyingly it scrapped a few years ago and I never managed to get a picture of it

Yep! I was reading one of my old What Car's before (August 1993) and the K Plate Ghia Estate that they tested (K535 HHK) still exists, not had an MOT since 2010.

K535 HHK - build date 15.04.1993, registered  13.05.1993. Incredibly early!

EFA... Just fitted a set of bottom arms for him, one of our mechanics fancied it to slam and stance so we did him a fantastic new deal on a £24,000 Fiesta and generously part chopped him the Mondeo in for £174.35. 🤣

It’s a Verona

I'm sure this is on your list already but thought I'd take a pic just in case.

Spotted at Morrisons in Derby, looked in really good condition.

You are right. It is a Verona. It's in one of the two colours you could get them in. I was thinking Ghia because of the trims and front fogs. It would be a 1.8 petrol.
