Had to change the clock bulb again, having only done so in April. Turns out I'd bent the contacts badly. It's not quite the right bulb anyway, nerd mode, this is the one they used from 1994 onward. Still working again for now.

The headlight lenses were just beginning to go yellow again after 9 years, so decided to replace them as really don't like that look.

I also spent some money at Princess Garage this week on an oil change but with my own OEM filter.

Also, the brake imbalance from the MOT was dealt with, the OSR wheel cylinder was replaced, the other was was done back in 2023 (again, I sourced the part).

Evidence that it was just beginning to leak, but hadn't contaminated the shoes, luckily!

They used to piss the seals on the rear drums something chronic back in the day. Getting the right cylinder used to be tricky as TRW made them different directions for the brake pipe to go into.

Still looks lovely and one of my favourite cars on here. Out of interest what's parts availability like these days?

I've had those lenses for years, getting a bit harder to find. Although the wheel cylinder was easy enough on eBay, making sure it was the right one for the 1.6.

I think mostly these cars will be alright for quite a few years apart from obvious interior trim stuff etc.

Sadly, no pics. But I spotted a black saloon possibly with boot spoiler and alloys being driven past Princess Yachts in Stonehouse, Plymouth earlier. An older gentleman at the helm. Looked relatively tidy - although it was only a fleeting glance.

Thank you! That was a 'possible survivor' from Greengartside data, but it had never been seen in the flesh. Excellent, goes on the master list (registered day after mine)

It was on my register @KWhite but good to see it should be saved, but clutch replacement could put him off. Better keep an eye on it, almost certainly one of the 10 earliest cars left, also a base *saloon* - makes this one I'd love to see carry on. Stole it for £100 given that must be less than weigh in value.

The Rimini Blues Brothers - 4 known. Do we know of any others? UBJ photo credit Harry Powell. EEG and GHK not on the road.

Other 3 are saloons - am I the last Rimini Blue hatch?

This Estate still has an MOT until September, but it's no longer on the DVLA 😓

@egg are you aware of any red K-reg examples in Norfolk/Suffolk? Reason for asking is I thought I saw one on Sunday, and what was quite neat was that it was a few cars behind a silver J-reg Mk5 Escort 3dr (quite tidy, remarkably so for one them).

Last week I saw a mark 1 Mondeo on a low loader on the A140 Cromer Rd near the airport . Didn't catch the reg though.

Query about wingmirrors. I bought this for my mk2 off a well known auction site, but it turned out to be the wrong fit. It seems to have a downward light on it too. Is this from a mk1 instead?

- had wheel alignment done
- oil change
- new rear brake cylinder
- replaced headlight lenses
- partial PAS fluid change
- Mounted new rear number plate
- replaced clock bulb twice
- Used dipetane as a fuel additive
- Found a set of BASE wheeltrims!

First job of 2026

This indicator was a Depo aftermarket one, bit dirty and faded.

Not quite a K reg but I was watching this last night

And 28:11 is this

It's a 1st August 1993 car so it's as close to a K reg as it gets. Looks to me like a GLX, but didn't these have square fogs in the front valance?

Nouveau Red was one of the few early Mondeo colours carried over from the '92-series Sierra, I can't remember if there were any others? I also can't find anywhere online that recognises this car so no data on engine size. Alive until its last MOT expired in April 2008. Seems to have had some headlamp issues towards the end of its life.

GLX didn't have fog lights as standard.

Oct 1993 brochure

Diamond White and Radiant Red were other Sierra colours that continued on the Mondeo.

Thanks for the link. The brochure is excellent, full of interesting and invaluable info. I totally forgot about that dark non-metallic Garnet Red, as seen on that 2.0i GLX K989RHR. Was that also a Sierra colour, or was it something different? I'm sure there used to be a few 1992 Sierra LX models in a similar shade, but it was so long ago when I last saw one.

It's interesting that this Garnet Red became available only for the Fiesta by this time, and Rimini Blue was not listed there at all.

First driving fine since 2012 :-(. £35. Bang to rights. Late for job interview - but at least I got the role.
