Whoever buys this must fit a huge "100% BMC FREE" sticker across the rear window !

Almost a full page in and no-one has said "they should have called it a Maxi". This place...

That looks quite nice, glwts

I compared the new 5 door Mini to a Maxi on launch...

I can't believe no one has gone for this yet, unless they're keeping it quiet, so if it's still up for grabs I'll have it.

Sent you a message AU. :)

Common sense says I should keep this, I only have an MR2 and RX7 to drive round in.

Bargain. I bought a cooper s recently. Awesome machine.

What's it like around town? I have heard the mpg and ride quality isn't great

doesn't look a lot of money for a car that still looks pretty fresh, never understand when people say they can't afford a nice car.

Probably the same people who complain that they can't afford to buy clothes for their offspring, but are quite happy with a £50 monthly contract for the latest Pie Phone.

I thought you were disappearing for a bit?

There were a few '100% free of Rover parts' stickers back in the day to counter the old (rusty and shit) Mini saddos.

It's fine, pretty much perfect for it.

I am in a month. I have to empty my house which is going to be interesting in an MR2.

I drove one from BMW's press fleet in 2002 on a plot and bash rally in the France/Belgium/Netherlands - it was a Mini event and it raised a lot of interest. The Europeans took it in good humour without the sorry instances of petty hate the BritTwats dipslay. Whilst we didn't win the rally (or anywhere near), I won the slalom event. It was a silver Cooper on a 51 plate and it's still taxed meaning that someone has (technically) the first MINI to be used on a competition event. :-)

It was a cracking car. The build quality was a bit hit and miss - the rubber seal between the screen and the roof left coming loose - but it was ace to drive. I recall driving along an autoroute in Northern France and a German pair in a highly tuned classic Mini trying it on. We were neck and next up to 90 but by 110 we were away. I had the air con switched on at the time.

The R50 with all the niggles ironed out was the best I reckon.

Was well happy with mine once I sorted out its minor issues. I would have another at the drop of a hat (nobody drop any hats until I have cash, time, space, and the kids have left home)

Looks a nice buy for someone.

Actually this shape Mini was 90% designed and engineered by Rover.

There was a mule on ebay a while back with Rover badges all over it.

Getrag box and no sealed beam lights.

THIS 1 R NO ROVA

A Mini with Minor issues? There's a place in the market for one of them. It could be called a Minor Mini.

Sorry to be a pedant, but the supposed Rover gearbox isn't a Rover gearbox at all...

Doing a bit of research on google:

They were originally used in Citroen AX's. Upgraded (R65U) versions were used in the Rover 200 1.4/1.6. PG1 is not related, used in MGF's, etc.

The 1.6 (and 1.4) in the Mini used the 'Prince' engine, developed between BMW and PSA/Citroen, used in a load of smaller Citroens and Peugeots. BMW later sacked it off and used their own engine.

It's a fairly decent engine, nice and smooth, I won't pretend to know about the characteristics of engines, but it's like a K-series 1.8, probably same power delivery and all that.

I thought the 2nd generation Bini got the prince engine?

I might be wrong, but I believe yours was the same lump as used on a neon.

EDIT: Yes, it was the Tritec engine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tritec_engine

Not the most fuel efficient, nor the most powerful for size, but often regarded as the strongest and most reliable lump they put in them.

Why?  Is it a diesel?

My dad had a Maxi Diesel, it was a late plate madness on a 1986 D plate, SWL were the letters on the number plate iirc, then traded it in for a Renault 20 but that was shit so sold it to a muslim bloke from France. Then he had an SD1 Vitesse Twin Plenum which are twice as powerful as the Single Plenum, only 5 were produced by Lotus....

As you were..

Ah, the scene of a few car collection caper starting points.

Yeah, I've sold about 7 through that very car park, probably equating to a rough total of  250 pounds.

Pleased to report that I am home with no dramas, a slow journey but that was down to me not the car or traffic.
