Isn't that the sort of madness pre-VAG Skoda were playing around with when they had to lob catalysts on all their cars and realised nobody in the engineering department had learned how injection works?

Yep. AN EXPERT once told me, when I had an 820e, that the ridiculous VIC-20 type engine management system had no EPROM and would forget any fuelling or ignition information it had been programmed with if you disconnected the battery. The HBOL gives you a process for re-teaching the car in a get-you-home stylee, but A MAN has to do clever things with a diagnostic probe to get the whole thing running properly every time.

That's some next level shite right there.

Exactly the same as the one my dad owned about 1996 by the sound of it, though his was 'E' registration. There's a polaroid of a very young yours truly posing in front of it, somewhere.

Its really the pits that innit. Rover almost deserved to go down the tubes for that alone

I had a very late plate madness SD1 with the O Series engine and it was utterly shit. This 800 will be like a Montego on steds.

E reg? SDA were the letters on the reg?

The 820 base model with the 8v "O" series carb lump was indeed aimed at company car drivers who were given a budget and told to choose their car and it also broke some company car tax barrier as well.

It was thought to be the "economy" model because it was an 8v carb engine but in reality was probably the thirstiest 800 of all time because it was so underpowered!

Matt (midnite) - behave yourself! Unless you're thinking of transplanting the engine, box, loom and everything else from the dead Sterling.....................

My Innocenti has a cat and a "normal" carb and passes the emissions test with flying colours every year.  Mind you, the engine in that is so tiny it's physically incapable of creating much in the way of pollutants.

Did something just happen on here?

A mate of mine had an F reg 820 carb fastback, It was the biggest heap of shit I have ever driven.

We're going back to 1997 and it was rubbish then, a dog slow loosely assembled collection of rattles and squeaks. If ever there was a reason ze W124 and E34 TOOK OVER ZE VORLD then this is it. Just rubbish.

Someone buy it.

I'm curious as to how a forum member (or otherwise) managed to email you a virus when you didn't publish your email address.  As far as I'm aware, it's a bit awkward to send a virus via PM, at least in a form that could infect your computer without you deliberately opening an attachment.

Aw man!!!It was quite a subtle trollage to be fair, I certainly fell for it. Now its very obvious trollage - you should have left it as it was then we'd all have been wondering for ever more if we'd missed out on some top level shite (well I would anyway). The E on the boot means single point injection BTW (not a carb), and it will have the M-series 16v motor. PS. Your mum etc.

Well I'm back! Wow this cars sparked a bit of interest. I have to say that I had a lot of emails on this and because of one of them is why I've not been able to respond until now. Some people and you know who you are asked some intelligent questions such as 'is it a saloon or hatch?' Where is it located? Are the any pics? Etc. Well yes there were pics, it's a saloon, and its in Corby on my drive. The other questions ranged from is it MOTed? Is it a manual? What size engine is it? Is it taxed? WTF General stuff that I put in the original post.

One email contained a virus that royally fucked my laptop up beyond repair. So I have got another. It was titled 'Rover 820' and as this is the only place I advertised it I can assume that it was someone who viewed the ad here, member or otherwise. The unintelligent emails and the virus have combined to really wind me up. I'm surprised I wasn't offered play stations as a form of currency.

My uncle wanted shot of it quick so I have paid him the money and it's mine now. As I write this I'm looking out the window at it. Oh I forgot to say,yes it's a carb model. I had my German head on and assumed that the e on the boot meant injection.

So.....autoshite. I know I've not been a member for long and it took a bit of time to adjust to the tongue in cheek banter that sometimes goes on. But I expected better. The emails asking stupid questions that needed not to be asked because they were in the original post. I'm deciding to have a late New Years resolution and I'm sacking off from forums starting here. I have no proof that anyone from here sent the virus but meh... I'm off.

As for the car? Well it involves a tin of dulux,on oval track and no doubt some pikeys to race. I guess being a carb version makes it easier.

what the hell are you talking about. and we still don't know where it is ffs

Look on the brightside. There is on on Ebay in st Helens . One owner 48,000 miles and looks nice. I cant do photos , so I had no chance of sending moody e-mails 😊. Banger racing it? Mustn't be able to turn right. Probably the nut behind the wheel.

I have read Chris1980's post, and I know where it is.

It's a shame. If it exists, it's within pootling distance.

Anyone else think Chris has gone to a lot of effort telling us he is giving up on forums? Shame we never got to see the pics but hey, good luck with the oval

trouble is when you advertise an old car for £200, your not going to get barristers and lawyers emailing you, you are going to get some of the best weapons grade window lickers known to man, i don't know what you expected in the first place.

As for the e on the boot lid and a carb on the bonnet meh don't know, but it's there. I'm not a troll it would be amass ice waste of time to make over 600 post to then pull something like this. Oh and your mum.

Fuckin hell are we starting yo mamma jokes now ?
