Lots of welding will this low mileage Corsa end up bridged

Knowing that Autoshite is Vauxhall friendly I thought I would ask if it's worth getting an very early Corsa through the ticket as apparently it needs lots of weldage but it's a good little runner and has only done 50 something 1000..

It's not my car but a friends and would wonder how much roughly it would cost it needs welding and the garage said not to bother on an old car as it could cost a lot more than it's worth..

I've not seen the failure slip but This is what I've been told..

"Suspension component mounting describe area is excessively corroded offside rear nearside and offside and nearside rear inner and it's 6 1/2 hours work.

She's very attached to the car so would you be bothered to save it.

Weld everything possible, if you can weld.

If you can't weld, either flog it to Cavcraft or frag it.

Obviously a tricky job. Presumably involving dropping the tank. Could be an even longer job than first expected as could be tricky to find something to weld to. I'd have a gander at the jacking points to make my decision, if they look like they are going the same way I wouldn't bother. If you do you are looking like the thick end of £2-250worth of welding. I'd make my decision based on what was likely to go during the next 12 months MOT, tyres, clutch etc. If rest is good then it might be worth it to get 12 months motoring. If not I'd bin it, if the value of old Novas are to go by it won't be worth a great deal.

I'm sorry I would say save it, I'm a sentimental fool though.

What's the general condition of the car? Paintwork, panels, etc.?

I'll say the same as I said in the SportKa thread, this sort of thing will have disappeared from the roads before we know it so it's entirely within the Autoshite ethos to save good examples.

Sounds like it's the chassis legs and spring pans. Hard to do properly tbh, so the quote will be based on slapping patches over the holes and the car will be in a worse state next year. Bin it.

Six and a half hours? Either it's gone all colander-like or they've just quoted a suitable figure so they never see it again.

Crush it, there's more out there even with that mileage. Distract her with a handbag or something*

Bosh the reg number up so we can see what it failed on.

Or send her round here so she can very attach herself to my Corsa B for £130.

I said I would pop down a garage with the car I use for her on Saturday and get a quote... She's been told to expect to pay a ballpark figure of £300 to £400 from the mot centre..

The interior looks like new and it's a GLS so it's got all the mod cons such as electric Windows and a steering wheel lol.

The car looks rot free above but the bonnet is unsightly as it's got a bad case of lacquer peel but I've driven it and it drives spot on apart from a little clutch judder but I think it had a relatively new clutch and I imagine when it was done it never had the flywheel skimmed..

So I think Saturday will find out if it's worth saving.. But will get the registration tomorrow.

Are there any other kinds of welding job?

Is it bollocks 6 1/2 hours. It will be both rear spring seats on the chassis, garage clearly doesn't want the work.

I'd get another quote. I got a complete new front crossmember ( fair bit of dismantling required and everything has to line up) and a section of rear valance replaced on my Corsa for £300 cash.

Re clutch judder, they all do that, even after a new clutch. My current Corsa has done it for years, mainly when cold.

How much would a sound Corsa cost?

Transfer all the posh bits out of that one and into the new car, dinitrol to death, squishathon outside the garage withe a note attached saying:

"This'll take about six and half hours to sort (or move), thx."

I recon I could come up with a dipping process so you just takes the wheels off, mask up the windows , lights and stuff then just dip the car in a massive vat of liquid metal or some epoxy formula so the whole thing is just encapsulated in some all en composing crust. No welding required. You could even pick your colour.

WILL CORSA'@S EVER BE CLASSIC?

I HAV ONE..............,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,THEY ARE SO MUCH BETTER THAN A NEW JAGUAR XF,,,,,,,,,,

It depends if you are going to keep it and run it into the ground.

Probably not worth it if you are punting it on - the book price for an L reg corsa is an air rifle and a commodore amiga.

Sorry, I know that we do our best to save cars, but you cannot save them all.

Sadly, just too much work.

That's properly kippered. If she's really really attached to it (I.E. It's a four wheeled pet with a name and everything) then it could probably still be done but at great expense and inconvenience. Sadly, there are too many still around to justify a mammoth weldathon otherwise.
Sell it to Billy?

Shame, seems like her poor car needs a bit. Wish i was minted, i would buy get, get all the work done and give it back to her.
