Dumped cars in your area

Yep.  It's just a consumable after all.

Sadly, with dual mass fly wheels and the like - it's very easy for a car to be "beyond economic repair".  But (and we've had this argument on here just this month) there's a strong defence for replacing a clutch on a car you know - rather than replacing it with the unknown.

I guess they've weighed up getting it replaced and transported home vs replacing the car (which undoubtedly happened immediately) and just decided they'd leave it where it is.  There are still personal effects in the car which added to my curiosity about the car, but I guess shit happens.

I feel sad when other people do it, but am a complete hypocrite and have done it myself. I think my Civic is very much on borrowed time with 6 weeks MOT left and likely work needed to get it through so it may just get scrapped.

Local to me.

The BMW is still MOT'd until May!

The Toyota's MOT expired back in October though.

So, the Rangey disappeared.

Berlingo is still there.

There was a mk1 focus that was there about a day before the DVLA clamped it then removed it.

Strange place. Why would you allow an obviously dumped van to stay there yet clamp and remove what looked a perfectly usable focus?

All showing as untaxed BTW.

Half a landy in the bushes just down the trans pennine trail from you shrimp. I've been tempted to take a socket set with me when I walk the dog and bring it home piece by piece

fucking thing is still there, Barnstaple council sayz it is ok to have a car with no mot, tax nor insurance innit

edited to add it is sorn now but on public road so that means jack. :)

Call North Devon District Council, not Barnstaple Town Council: http://www.northdevon.gov.uk/parking/report-an-abandoned-vehicle/.

There was an abandoned Kangoo van on my road for ages, someone must have reported it eventually, it was long out of MOT and tax by times I bothered looking (fortunately lots of parking on that road so it wasn't really in the way, just obviously abandoned once the tyres all went flat).  A warning notice appeared on the windscreen one day saying that the vehicle must be dealt with or it'd be removed, the owner didn't react and about 5 days later it was gone so they do sort them out.

If a car is showing as in trade with no registered keeper it would be very difficult for the DVLA to fine anyone so clamping it would be a waste of time.

If a car is registered to someone then they will have more incentive to follow it up as once it is in your name you have practically signed a contract to have money removed from yourself

Have to agree, scooping up an abandoned car must be a costly ballache for all concerned.

I couldn't just abandon mine either though, even if it was FUBAR. I'd want to get it home and then dispatch it from there.

FD that car park looks familiar, wouldn't be one that is attached to a certain rotary boat lift would it?

There's a household near me that has left their 06 plate Peugeot out on the main road into the estate for a month now with a flat tyre. It's causing a blind spot and looks unsightly now, slightly annoying. At least mine are abandoned inside my property boundary!

Where abouts? Might just have to go 'have a look' :-)

Walk down past the end of my Estate. About 100 yard further there's an opening into a big field on your right. Go in there and follow the hedge line down the hill. It's in the bushes just other side of the fence. It's been well picked over already. All sorts of weird and wonderful things in there but I wouldn't want to venture far in

Will have to go and have a look. Is this a recent thing or have stuff been dumped there for years?

Edit: do you mean here?

Lol don't think they're gypsies as just managed to horde a bunch of crap. Think Mrs Shrimp knows/know of some of the family can't remember if they're "get of my land" types

Took a photo of it today before it gets fragged in the next few days.

It's such, SUCH a shame.  It's in really good condition with nice tyres all around, no dents or particular dings.  Sad to see all of their holiday itinerary written out by hand along with other personal effect still there.

Hopefully its organs are transplanted to save other unloved and thoroughly brilliant cars.

Not much sympathy with the owners I'm afraid I hope they are sent the bill for the disposal of the car.

Like you though I hate seeing things go to waste.

I never really see dumped cars in my area but spotted these two within a week of each other. I'm guessing that this Puma died on the road as it was in a layby kind of in the middle of nowhere. Plod sniffed around it the other day and now it's gone. Looked pretty good for a Puma, not much rust on the arches.

This Mazda 6 looks like it's been left here for quite a while judging by the flat tyres and green growing on the floor around it. This is in a mega busy car park too as you've got all the stores you can see in the background, a Homebase, Coffe shop and a massive Tesco just out of shot. A lot of people put for sale signs in cars here and leave them for a bit but this is just straight up dumped here. No for sale sign and parked in two spaces. Just anti-social really, like littering.

The Clio in my local Tesco car park is still there.

It's been there three and a half months.

Got removed a couple of weeks ago, only took seven months in the end.

The fuckwit dumping cars with vinyl over the windows advertising his business keeps adding more of the bastards, as well as rotating the ones with air in the tyres between certain positions. An early Rover 75 appeared in one place for a bit covered in neon pink stickers, now replaced with a slightly less offensive but still garish ex-taxi Octavia on a 59 plate.

An old Punto abides (might report it as abandoned again, been there long enough), and there's a Fiesta van and Focus estate that keep swapping places, one by the local dump and the other near my gaff.

The Seicento that appeared first had its windows stoved in one day last month, next day it was gone.

I wonder if some of the dumped cars are in fact stolen and get "special treatment" as such?

The unused Jeep disappeared about a month after I mentioned it here, the picture I took was crap so never posted it.

Is it even possible to take ownership of an abandoned vehicle without the owners consent or would that be plain theft?

Regarding car sales in car parks you've got to admire the cheek of it, plenty of retailers I've worked for don't actually own or have any powers over vehicles parked in them.

My current employer has signs up everywhere saying fines etc etc but has no enforcement and some cheeky blighters who work for the local council no less park there regularly!  Now clamping is no more perhaps folk just don't give a damn.

That's an interesting thought.

No and yes, respectively.  AS legal counsel ruled on this a couple of weeks back...  ;)

Nice car, yeah?

Probably not. That notice in the window is a removal notice dated from Thursday so it's probably not got long left. It's in a council run carpark in Pershore.

These two have been stood a while in my local car park.

No idea what the story is on the Yaris but I know the Alto belongs to a girl who was getting driving lessons in it last year. Not sure if it was the car or her that gave up!post-19511-0-00882900-1492976264_thumb.jpgpost-19511-0-44903000-1492976301_thumb.jpg

Also I posted this Golf last year

It ended up with a 7 day notice on it then it disappeared, assumed crushed but then turned up on the pavement here next to another sad looking Golf, home of one of two local dubbers.

At least it is with an enthusiast nowpost-19511-0-81043400-1492976525_thumb.jpg
