Ronald Mc_Bo11ox's LAGUNA ODYSSEY OMG FTP SOS ETC LOL

I really do like these Laguna II threads at the moment I think autoshite could actually become the unofficial Laguna II owners club with the amount being preserved on here.

If anyone can keep a Laguna running it will be Mr Ronald Mcbo11ox..

That looks a really good spec car as ours was quite high spec but never had seats that nice.. if you can buy an upmarket one for £120 what will a base model cost I wonder.

It's also good to see that your car hasn't got the 2.0 litre petrol ide so hopefully it should give you some trouble freeish motoring.

I'm only quoting this so I know where to find it next week when the Laguna is on fire

Glad to see you got this back ok Mr Boll. Be nice to see how the 2.0 pez version fairs.

With regards to the Key Card. We brought a repair kit for about £6 off ebay and got a friend who we know is good with a soldering iron to fit it.

Your probably need the kit with the card cases as ours didn't survive the removal stage.

Despite that the thing still doesn't bloody work! I'd say leave it be as I doubt the Laguna II features high on the scum thief hit list anyway.

A new Key Card is £130 which was the cheapest we could find but we still haven't fixed ours yet.

Though if you do decide to give it a crack with the key card then I'll be interested to see if you have better luck with this one.

New definition of shite motoring: The key replacement cost is more than the car cost.

you can have the 1.9tdi out my octy for reliable* derv motoring with french style

Some good intel on here. I think i might chance £30 on getting the key overhauled but the belt etc can FRO, If I get it on the road and find I like it a lot then maybe Ill worry about that later. i see you need a set of snazzy looking timing tools as well which are another £35 unless I could find someone to lend me a set.

I have the exact set you require lurking in my garage :-)

some owners reviews from parkers website.

Terry Charles, 06 April 2007

Living with it:

Have you had any problems with the car?

Where do I start? Failed axle bushes after 2 months A/C stopped working Electric windows became erratic Car has a major problem when the engine gets hot and switches to "limp-home" mode. This is only resolved after enging cools down Loads more problems but it would be selfish to take up more webspace!

Driving it:

What's it like to park?

OK

Have you had any problems with the car?

it would be quicker to say what hasnt gone wrong, but here it goes, the first rain we had after buying the car the sunroof leaked water over the fuse box and the wipers kept gone ,the hazzads kept going without the ignition turned on,then it wouldnt start and finally when it did start i couldnt turn it off, it did dry out and all was back to normal, then it developed a misfire when pulling of,the tyre pressure sensors failed and lastley the gearbox bearings have gone ,so the car has to go.

What's it like to park?

the rear view is poor .

Have you had any problems with the car?

Yes - basically anything electronic that could go wrong did! In 2 years, it spent more time static on my drive, flashing warning lights or being repaired than it did on the road. Auto gearbox decided it wanted to change gear and stick in gear randomly, engine went through phases of mis-firing randomly. Everything seemed to be triggered by one of the tyre pressure warning sensors being activated.

What's it like to park?

Slightly easier than the Saab 900 it replaced.

Moderate

Have you had any problems with the car?

What's it like to park?

Easy to park

Have you had any problems with the car?

What's it like to park?

easy has parking sensors

Whats the deal with the triangle on the front seats? Is it to rest your weary plums on? And whats the deal above, 9th aircon pump, that can't be right surely? You would have f#cked it off way before that.

"Computer voice comes on for no reason."

It probably just wants some attention, the poor thing.

Just be thankful whoever ordered yours new didn't specify the "70s Birmingham tower block living room" brown velour.

What? That brown interior is bloody lovely that is! Imagine sitting there, crying when the car FTPs in the outside lane of the M40 on a rainy Thursday evening.

I used to get annual training from Toshiba, and their tech rep had a brand new Laguna 2. Very proud of it the first year we went, apart from a "little issue" with the tyre pressure monitors. But he was well chuffed with all the gizmos, showed off his little keycard, "look at the future lads"

Second year we went, "How's the Laguna Brian?" - cue half an hour tirade of how it's been in the garage every fortnight for the past twelve months.

Third year.... "Hey Brian, still got that Laguna?" - language to make a sailor blush

Fourth year..... "What you driving these days Brian?"

"A Vectra".

I like these.

When they are working that is.

Fatha_Lobsta bought a 2.0 petrol Dynamique brand new in 2005 and had virtually not much bother with it over five or six years. And it was a decent thing to drive, just worrying how long it could behave though.

Some gems on Honest Johns (yes i know he is a twat) website as well:

http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/renault/laguna-ii-2001/?section=good

  • 4th from bottom out of 137 models in 2003 Top Gear survey.
  • 2000-2005 Laguna 4th least reliable car in 2007 Warranty Direct Reliability Survey with 55 faults per 100 cars.
  • Laguna II 7th least reliable car in 2005 Warranty Direct Reliability Survey with 50 repair claims per 100 cars.
  • Water has been known to get into the ECU creating short circuits and causing things like the car to attempt to self-start while the alarm goes off, the wipers wipe and the screenwashers spray screenwash fluid. This seems to be increasingly common.
  • One report of brake pedal failing in use because pivot came loose. Check brake pedal pivot. Further report that brake pedal pivot is "hollow plastic" and that is why the pedal snaps off so easily.
  • In five months and 3,000 miles, one reader's Y reg Sport Tourer required two new gearboxes, one new driveshaft, one new drivers side electric window motor and repairs to the hand-brake.

Hi,

my Laguna 2 was actually more than 25 times the price of yours.... :)
As I said somewhere else- mine runs well and reliably - touch wood.

Those electrical faults in the dash are often due to blocked water drains. If you hear water flushing when you go around corners you should worry. To avoid problems one should clean the drains under the shuttle panel, especially (but not only) if you own a car with a sunroof.

My brother´s laguna (1.6 16v) had those ECU problems due to the sunroof. Friends own a 2.0 16V... So we have got three Laguni here- I am going to keep you updated about ours.

The brake pedal fault sounds particularly fun.

Yer I'm thinking the next time I'm out in the Laguna I might take those Island / traffic light approaches a little more slower.

I get the impression that reliability wasn't a strong point.

I've always hankered for a Laguna II. A lot of metal (well modern french, so plastic) for your money.

My Grandad happens to have a 2002 1.8 16v that he bought new and had every box ticked on. Despite only doing 25k miles from new, this year alone it had £1.5k spent on it to get through its MOT. Being in his 90s, he won't drive anything else and I'm kinda waiting for the day he decides to give up driving and get it...

Saying that, the last time I was in it, the onboard speaking computer spent 5 minutes telling us all the faults. Then spent the rest of the journey moaning about different doors being opened. It is very polite though...

Just a little tip on these, if you have a ELM327 there is a Android app that can read the codes. Or alternatively, get a vag com 409.1 cable off ebay (they're like a fiver), find a copy of DDT2000 on the interwebs (Google) and a old windows XP laptop...

Si.

I remember a mate of mine telling me how someone taking a 3yr old Laguna into a scrapyard he was working at. It got plonked straight in the baler, insurance job apparently... He'd bought it via yes car credit or somewhere and it had self destructed soon after.

I've suddenly started looking at these on ebay too now... Can't believe my mate bought a 55 reg diesel estate 3 years ago for 4k or whatever it was. That blew up after 18 months.
