No no no, the seller says it's a fab car that just needs a stereo, it will definitely be ok. Renault diesels and automatic gearboxes have peerless reputations and this, blessed enough to be born with both, will have reliability and longevity to make even the best Volvo 240 weep

Being an Initiale its a fancy integrated satnav, hands free and the radio interfaces into that. The radio state shows up on the big screen along with it remembering the last settings used per keycard (his & her keycards). Not quite sure how you'd put an aftermarket one in or even if it's possible. Iirc the connectors are all different and non standard.

And there lies the killer. "Just needs a stereo" translates into "In typical Renault fashion, it's their way or screw you so it just needs a special stereo that are neither cheap nor abundant, and you'll end up buying another car just to get the head unit".

I found the same issue with my Focus, because someone had specced the High Spec HiFi/Nav rather than the crappy one, it didn't have separate climate displays - the temp and mode displayed along the bottom of the nav screen, so there's no way of changing the head unit without also finding a new climate unit with the displays built in, which was pretty rare.

At least on my current Astra, whilst the display shows what the aircon is up to, there's regular indicators on the buttons themselves too so I reckon that wouldn't be a problem. Sadly though, the indicator noise is synthesised through the HiFi (yeah, I know....) so if you do upgrade it you have to buy a box that interfaces with CanBus and provides a click noise when you indicate.

Fuck me, I've heard it all now. What's wrong with the ticking of a relay. All moderns are shit, etc etc.

All this Laguna talk just reminded me of this one, i photographed it back in 2010 in a car yard after they lost the keycard and the window was left open. It had been in the yard for 2 years by that point unmoved! It was only 6 years old when it was first parked up.

Pretty much all modern cars are like that. They either use the car speakers, or more commonly the dashboard itself does it.

My Saab 9-3 did it through the audio system. But the audio system had several modules all linked thru fibre optic system. When the door speaker amplifier under the passenger seat (what a silly place) gets wet from rain, spilt drinks, wet shoes, etc, it kills it. Because it needs to function to drive the fibre optic bus, the audio system link is broken shutting it down. Thus no warning sounds or indicator noises.

Easiest fix is actually to disconnect the fibre optic input and output fibres, then using a small piece of fish tank tube as a holder, point them at each other. Thus removing the amplifier out of the audio fibre optic circuit and making the indicators work again!

Ahem.  One of the few things that worked on my X350 Jaaaag was this - part of the thinking is for the hands-free - I noticed the indicator click was muted if I was yakking on the handsfree.  At first I thought something else had broken.

Only around the corner from my parents house. Also the same town as someone else on here (can't remember who, but they own a brown Audi 80/100/or something).

With no MOT, its a bit expensive imo. Knock a £100 off, I might be tempted...

Yeah I saw that too. The previous seller started at £600. Eventually went down to £250 before the ad was deleted. Tbh, with a borked gearbox and ABS pump required, £250 would be the upper end on what I'd want to pay.

This v6 phase 2 has a fair bit of history.

I first saw this on Autotrader going for around £700-800 with a short MOT, sometime last year. Ended disappearing and then reappearing at a garage local to the first seller (probably part-ex) here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231839783559

It was on with that dealer for a good few months. I did try contacting but no answer on the phone and no reply on emails.

Anyway, its reappeared on Gumtree, with a thousand miles more...

I wonder why? Maybe the 20-25mpg was a bit too low? Looks in pretty decent condition and appears less broken than mine :D

The lad at work with a Laguna II has just replaced it with a Mazda 6. He was faced with a quote of £1200 to get it sorted for its MoT (I couldn’t bear to ask what for) and has unsurprisingly decided to scrap it.

Not sure exactly what model it is, certainly nothing too fancy/unusual so don’t go fretting about the loss of another one.

I've just been looking at goonas on the bay. I wonder if I can take a superinjunction out against this thread?

Needs rear wheel bearing - cheap easy job...

£75 a side as they are integral with the disc, it is an easy job though.

£30 a side to do the bearing if the disc is in good nick and you have a press handy. Really easy

1) I *definately do not have any goonas in my watchlist.

2) Is it true that the 1.9 DCI was modified mid 2003 after which they grenade less?

Is this one of those logic puzzles where only one of the statements is true and we have to guess which?

I think they're probably both false! I have found reference to a redesign but I'm sure they will still be shit. I had the misfortune to sit in Chodweavers Vel Satis yesterday and I think it has effected me adversely somehow! Thank God the chances of me finding a diesel vel satis that still goes has to be minimal!

Handy to know as mine were replaced at least two months ago...

Yo! I need to crack on with the blue Gooner shortly, does anyone have one of these press tools for changing the rear bushes? I've got the bushes but not the tool. I see you can buy one off eBay for £35, which I will do if necessary, but if anyone can lend me one for a weekend it would be AMAZE. Any suggestions?

I let a garage do it, bugger that for a job as I have to fix mine in the road currently.

Mine are still in good nick atm, so not got the tool.

I have read that the cheaper eBay tools are bit of a one job wonder.

Surely Mr Boll you could knock one up yourself out of a bit of stuff lying around? ;)
