Rumbelows vans & other van schemes ??

Look forward to seeing more of those period comercial vehicles photos mash, those kind of images are priceless. I have a few 70's brochures (actually several hundred) I vaguely recall I had a 1978 Bedford brochure range with a HA and CF vans in several colourful liveries. Typically I can't find it, maybe someone else here might have a copy to scan?

I've rushed these through a bit cos it's getting late but these are all from 70s Bedford brochures. The earlier and later ones unfortunately only have plain vans in though :(

This is certainly amongst the greatest set of pics ever to appear on the Shite.

Class 8) Radio Rentals still exist btw, they've been renamed but the company is still there. My aunt still rents a TV from them, probably the only person in the country? There's something not natural about those publicity photos - a van that's clean just doesn't look right

Love those pics! Specially the 'Quality Nut Products' CF which caused me to involuntarily discgarge a tiny amount of OMG!

True. The most natural publicity shot of a van would be taken out of the back window of a car, showing the van 3.6 inches from the rear bumper whilst the driver. with Ginsters crumbs all over his face, flicks you the bird and/or fiddles with his tomtom.Or a new Transit advert where they've got a hiab and a pair of semi-crushed Rover 214s on the back. Not sure it paints their product in the best light though :)Much better than today's efforts of a unliveried van with an annonymous tradesman loading goods into the back.

Got any Land Rover pics in your treasure trove??I should really tart mine up, and was going to paint it the original Mid Grey, but you've given me ideas..............anything from British Sugar on any motors? Like the really nice Royal Blue with Goldleaf?Go on, surprise me!

I remember those Bedford brochures. The small town I live in used to have Vauxhall/Bedford,Ford,Austin-Morris,Datsun,Peugeot,VW & Honda/Morgan :o dealers & I used to visit them all on a weekly basis during the late 70s/early 80s.The dealers have all gone now except for the Vauxhall one,but the Austin-Morris one was here until a few weeks back selling new Renaults & MG/Rover parts.

Looking for something a little more in keepiong with the late 60s /early 70s. I was considering an agricultural engineering firm.......Platts Harris......anyone know if they're still on the go??

I think i've started somat here 8)

What did Rumbelows do?

They were a TV rental firm - back in the days when Tv's cost a small fortune and were unreliable/ expensive to fix most people rented em from various companies. Rumbelows was one of those companies. Taken over by Radio Rentals but there were others. I just love the name Rumbelows  if you search on YouTube you can see some of the adverts .. To answer some of the questions i'm actually converting my Anglia estate into a van - It was a proper Ford model but they only ever exported estate vans, never for the home market. The interior was very poor and glass steel trims had rotted so thought stuff it i'll make a replica of a van like you do - i'll be putting with my own stance on it though.Cause the cars a 1962 (one of the first estates) I want a 60's colour scheme. I love the yellow and white Redfusion vans and If I had an escort estate 100% thats the scheme I would do. Not too keen on the 60's redefusion bit dull for my liking. I still like the idea of doing a company that no longer exists and that people have forgotton. But some of the pictures posted up here are 'van'tastic. The favorites so far Everest Bedford Chevanne - love that one always liked the Chevanne.Sunblest Anglia Redefusion (i'd never heard of these but my wife who is younger than me knew straight away)

Think my favourites so far are:1 Rediffusion (the yellow and white ones, any)2 Co-op3 Everest4 Sunblest5 VitBEBut as you said, an Anglia van should be more tuned towards 60s than 70s regalia.Need another fix Mr Mash, any more coming? 8)

Re: Rumbelows, a little off thread, but......I'm sure people of a certain age will remember their most famous video salesman who was of course "Harry the Basta*d"."Have we got a video? Yes, we've got a video". Copyright "The Young Ones" early 80's.

I haven't got round to loading any more to Photobucketofshit but here's some more Wilsdon vans. I think these appear in another thread somewhere but worth a look :D

If you're talking about the time it takes to upload pictures Flickr is slower if anything.
