As Ford offered the Mk3 Saloon in black as a Taxi, I thought one of these would be suitable as a period feature. Autoshite Cabs anyone? Just don't vomit on the velour

I've got a bilingual one here so you can put it to work whichever house you are at.

Ouch.  The 'like' is for the first bit.

Expensive business, this cheap cars thing.

In true Autoshite fashion, spend a fortune on something that's still worth less than £1,000

I admire your dedication.

However a bill that size for a mk 3 granada would have me reaching for one of these -

And if I couldn't reach, my other half would give me a hand.

Bloody hell! I dread to think what my mate Jas spent on his Samara, a car that cost him £250, just for the parts it was nigh on a grand, then the labour and a full respray. You are a brave man, and I wish I had that kind of wedge to spend on my old heap

I don't really, thank God for 0% purchases on Barclaycard

If someone didn't spend that sort of money on them then great cars like this wouldn't be around anymore! That would be a shame.

Congrats on the fresh MOT, it's a lovely car and worth the expense.

I felt I'd fallen out of love with her as I handed my credit card over then fell in love all over again on the 15 mile drive home. Just thrown a bucket of water over her as she looked abandoned.

Fark me that is a huge bill! I hope it is worth it and you get many years of enjoyment from her

Kudos for the dedication

Jesus christ! And i quippled over spending £100 on the front suspension on the Audi!

Posted

That is a truly committed level of spending, if you're that much in love with the car then it does make sense, she's now theoretically good for a long time to come. Is it now a case that all mechanical/structural stuff is now sorted? Any cosmetic work needed/planned?

Posted

Get agreed value insurance - no good spending that kind of moolah to get £300 back should the unthinkable happen.

On the agreed value thing, I insured mine with Footman James and all I had to do for agreed value was pay an extra tenner and put in the value, it gets agreed automatically.

None of the faff it used to be sending in receipts and photos and haggling. So yeah I'd say it's worth it too.

Big bill, but not as big as your balls. And heart. Well done man. You deserve some kind of award or badge athe the very least.

My Visa card is about to get a hammering sorting out my Visa.

Posted

Da fuq? Either I'm not charging enough or there are some huge hidden costs in the "engine" bit of the list!

Posted

Very impressed with that level of commitment.  Very.

I'd be thinking about keeping her for summer use mind, as presumably you have some serious salt on the roads up there and it would be tragic for that hard work to be undone too quickly.

Just my thoughts mind.  They are a great car with that engine, nice and smooth and reasonably economical.

Posted

Tbh, I've been stiffed on Labour Charges but I don't care as I have her back. She'll be going over to Bulgaria in the summer (that'll be a thread in itself) and be stored in one of our barns and used in summer when we go over. All mechanical stuff now sorted, booked her in for a full £150 valet - he's booked up till end of June though.

Jesus, thats a big bill, but if it weren't for idiots like us who spend there hard earned wedge on cars like this then we'd all be driving around in faceless euroboxes and talk on forums about how they never breakdown and how economical they are

That is a truly committed level of spending,

in an alternate 1985 kinda way.......

seal i hope the next 200 quid purchase is 400 litre of dinitrol and fluffy cushions and shit for when the paying the bill happens :o

As it's been some considerable time since my last post, thought I'd post an update.

The Granada is now residing in our barn in Bulgaria. She now has a set of LHD headlights and NOS headlight protectors fitted in preparation for her KAT test and subsequent Bulgarian registration next year.
