NI base update - SAFRANE hunted and captured.

What a heartwarming story to return with. Sounds like the previous owners were properly over the moon to find out it had been saved and it couldn't have gone to a better home. Are you on a mission to own every big old Renault in Ireland? Safranes are nice but what you really need is an R20 (I guess you missed the shenanigans that created this meme).

ps volvo 5??

thought v6 4s and dizzle

everydays a schoolday :D

That was my first thought! Fantastic lumps

Fantastic story , everyones happy , you , the previous owner and the Renault - everyone except the dealers which has lost what seemed to be a loyal customer by ripping them off .

What a story! I miss that about NI, knowing every piece of local shite. There may be more of it over here, but knowing where to go chasing after what you want is a bit more pot luck.

Still, it's probably easier to buy broken down Volvos out of laybys with notes under the wipers around here, so it's not all bad...

Will have to pay a visit to the fleet when I'm home over Christmas. I'll be home in the V70R all being well!

Good to have you back fella, did anything ever come of that field of Citroens you found?

Welcome back Luke!!!

Incase anyone doesn,t know,i own a 1994 Safrane V6 RXE and have owned about 4 others phase 1 V6s,the V6 you see in Lukes pic(K556 PTR)used to be mine and i sold it to Luke after saving it and replacing the gearbox,a rare car indeed.

Great thread Luke and well done on the save, maybe you need to sell the V6 back to me now??????

I love this thread Luke, this is the sort of thing this forum needs.

I really like this Safranes, I drove a few newish ones in the late 90s and found them a really nice place to be. Those seats are nicer than the ones in my living room!

Posted

The seats are lovely in these, early Phase 1 cars had electric front AND rear seats with 50/50 split and the rear seats moved both fowards and up on the base, amazing,as well as electric front seats you could get the ergomatic option with 6

inflattable cushions and heating, aswell as an electric adjusted steering column which all works on the seat memory buttons so the drivers seat/mirror glasses/steering column all move on the touch of one button, crazy, but try finding a Safrane with all this, its near impossible as i well know.....

Christ, I had literally no involvement in this whatsoever and I feel fucking triumphant.

What an awesome story.

Glad y'all enjoyed that. And yes QuickS, there aren't that many as it is, as time goes on I feel I have to preserve haha. They are massively underrated and will of course be completely forgotten. People can't seem to give them away. My advice is snap one up if local and cheap, you won't regret it.

Stephen you will indeed have to take a trip up when you're home. That Xantia V6 you fell for is STILL broken :/

RuffG - they've been downsized and relocated. He kept a few BXs, and a few Xantias but I don't know what has happened to the rest. Rumour had it he owed lots of people a lot of money and generally avoids social contact, I was told there was next to no mission at getting hold of any of them.

406V6 - is the GTX still running well?

Dave - I had PTR out the other day when I got the new Safrane home. Still in love with the old thing but you're welcome to come and visit!

Bollocks, that's a shame, the Ax Gt/Gti market is picking up rapidly.

You are full time car trading, and bought a Safrane???? You iz doing it wrong!!

No,really, top work there. Good detectiving if thats a word.

Enjoyed reading the story on this one. Top work!

Receipts for just under 10k seems a lot to us, but actually isn't too bad as that's around 600 per year on average for the servicing, MOT and maintenance work all by a main dealer, plus they had it 16-17 years and it's done 120k so has still had a fair amount of use at least by the last owner.

Welcome back fella! That Safrane looks the tits, seriously regretting not buying the maroon dizzler I was offered a couple of years back but I had no moolah at the time now.

Glad the old boy was pleased to see where it ended up too, plus a happy ending for an otherwise scrap fodder Safrane.

no,

no you don't.

renault, and diesel, those two words together lead to doom and despair.

it was i think a bullet that you dodged!

but that safrane is a lovely looking machine.

Well, that's me off to bed then.

Might not bother looking at the internet at all for the rest of the week. Reckon this thread is pretty much unbeatable.

Top work.

Yes, running really well thanks (hope these words aren't the precursor to doom). 140k on the clock, front drop links replaced so the suspension is nicely quiet and tight again and faulty coil pack replaced. German chocolate auto gearbox still doing what it should.

Top thread, thanks for posting.

Finding such a well looked after car for banger money is a shiter's dream - top work.
