After getting Sonic on the SeeSaw the other day I got started today.

First I pulled out the fiberglass and was left with this.

post-17457-0-54164500-1517238297_thumb.jpg

Got a piece of metal and put a bend in it.

post-17457-0-68074800-1517238322_thumb.jpg

The front isn't flat so I had one piece for the recessed bit.

post-17457-0-71440500-1517238335_thumb.jpg

I put a bend in the other piece with the shrinker. Then stuck those in.

post-17457-0-81376600-1517238345_thumb.jpg

Then I started on the wing piece.

post-17457-0-48747500-1517238382_thumb.jpg

Half of it in. I then made and fitted the next bit but no pictures as I was doing a lot of thinking.

post-17457-0-77208200-1517238389_thumb.jpg

The bit where the sidelight screws in was a bit rusty as can be seen above so out that came.

post-17457-0-42241600-1517238396_thumb.jpg

Made a bit.

post-17457-0-72323600-1517238415_thumb.jpg

Stuck it in.

post-17457-0-30788000-1517238434_thumb.jpg

This is today's debris.

post-17457-0-30367800-1517238449_thumb.jpg

A casualty of war, started smoking when charging one of the drill batteries so that's dead then!

post-17457-0-63635000-1517238463_thumb.jpg

Today's set up. I have been using a friends welder which after the wire feed tension mod (a piece of metal connecting either side of the wire feed rollers) it isn't too bad really.

post-17457-0-14597300-1517238473_thumb.jpg

That was about 5 hours 'work' and enough for today.

Started on the front of the passenger sill. Cut some stuff out.

post-17457-0-51881500-1517325686_thumb.jpg

Cleaned it up.

post-17457-0-30243900-1517325694_thumb.jpg

Piece to go in.

post-17457-0-01318100-1517325705_thumb.jpg

With a cut out for the piece already there.

post-17457-0-32150700-1517325716_thumb.jpg

Got distracted.

post-17457-0-90263500-1517325727_thumb.jpg

Cut that out too.

post-17457-0-39582800-1517325742_thumb.jpg

It was vert flimsy.

post-17457-0-62333500-1517325759_thumb.jpg

Back on track I put the piece in.

post-17457-0-38692300-1517325774_thumb.jpg

First piece of the sill closer.

post-17457-0-03138700-1517325836_thumb.jpg

Goes here.

post-17457-0-80557400-1517325846_thumb.jpg

In place.

post-17457-0-91647100-1517325852_thumb.jpg

I also plated a bit of the wheel arch just where it meets the sill bit took no pictures of that it seems.

Now have an empty gas bottle and a possibly dead Power file.

That is it for a few days now.

More superb fabrication there and very neat cutting too!

Im envious of your lift as well, no scrabbling around under a car thats barely a foot off the ground!

The lift is great, I was sat on a chair while doing the bit at the front on Monday!

Great work. You can borrow my Esab if the top mig is playing up, as they do.

I am just proving that it works 'properly' before it gets moved on, I still have my little Clark 90 which has done everything that has been thrown at it. I have also used 320T's new welder and the difference is very noticable between the three of them. I guess the Esab is at least another step up again.

Despite not actually learnt how to weld, I have been eyeing up the Esab Rebel. Really rather pricey (flipping expensive more like), but it does seem to make brilliant welds out of the box without a lot of hassle. Plus, even though pricey, good quality tools seem to hold their value well.

As has been seen elsewhere this has left the fleet, I hope The Moog has as much fun as I had with it.

The last thrilling update ended in having run out of welding gas so supplies were acquired. The 20L SGS gases bottle is very heavy!

Oxford out of the way for a good tidy up.

post-17457-0-47405100-1517663950_thumb.jpg

Anyone who has a gas bottle but no place for it will have undoubtedly discovered they like falling over and breaking the regulator. I decided to be proactive for once and used some old metal from a fence to make the support at the bottom.

Oxford now back in place ready for its next session.

Am I correct in finding these on the internet for £1200!

I believe there are some excellent mig welders available for around £500 and my Clark 90 has been excellent handling everything thrown at it.

Ssssh! Don't say that, my wife maybe looking at my screen!

Also, if you've found them for £1200, do you have a link? I've only seen them nearer the 1.5k mark.

Expensive yes (well bloody pricey), but it should last a long while and everything I've seen of them is that they produce amazing welds out of the box. Mostly because it's smart enough to monitor the welding in action and adjust itself automatically. Plus, like most high quality tools, they do hold their value.

First step is getting my SIP/Cosmo welder 130 fixed, so I can practice moving the sparkly end around. Have a new gun and a new speed controller for the wire feed motor ready to fit and wire in.

Just looked and it was £1249.17. +Vat which gives you £1500.

You would need to be welding professionally for quite a while for that to pay off.

Totally with with the bottles falling over I bought 5 nozzles from the welding shop and have one left the rest are victims of drunk gas bottles.

No need to spend that money on a mig if your just fannying around with cars. There’s loads of really good migs for 300 quid. If I had that money for a welder I’d be getting a tig.

I think it can do lift off Tig, no doubt with the extra cost option of the Tig torch.

I do recall saying you wanted one of these after you got a shot. I was a passenger in VAY on Saturday and now so do I!

Since purchase I have driven it possibly 10 meters, that will be changing though!

Im also in love with the massive reminder note on your unit door 'POWER OFF'!

I have proved that I am an idiot before, this helps to reduce some of those instances.

Winning! I'm definitely coming along to the next trackday, if even just to watch / take photos!

I have some work to do before trying to not fall off the track.

TTT 172 FINDINGS SOLUTIONS AVAILABLE

A+ seller would buy silver car from again. (should have said that last time and then it would now be true)
