The definitive too shite for Autoshite list

Recommended Posts

From the 307 thread. So much hate and diswant that nobody wants one. However:

"Another for the (surprisingly short) list of cars too shite for Autoshite:

Laguna II

PT Cruiser

307"

This raises a few questions and further discussion:

"Fiat Stilo?"

"MG6, EFA"

"I'd have an MG6."

"And I've had a Laguna II and they're not a bad old bus."

"I'd have a Laguna II, but not an MG6."

"I love Peugeots, but I wouldn't touch a 307 with someone elses barge pole."

So I think we're all agreed that the PT Cruiser is too shite and the 307 is simply too shit to be shite i.e. there isn't a single good thing to say about them. Let's build this list - it can't be just two cars - what is it?

Wiggy arse Megane 2001ish probably. The nastiest interior for look and tactile feel this side of a penny pinched MG ZS without any of that car's redeeming features (it was a good steer). The 1.6 motor it had was a gutless piece of junk as well.

The 307 I drove was a positively nice place to be in comparison, as was the similarly aged Astra.

Earlier and later Meganes, I have no issue with.

Agree re. "shaking that ass" Megane.

I've never heard of anyone on here giving them any love, probably because they're weird-looking in all the wrong ways.

I liked them. Sorry. My mum had one new as a company car, she ordered an old shape but there was a delay and it turned out easier to get her a new shape one instead so it was the first month or so they were available.

At the time, I thought they looked awesome, I really liked the arse end and the inside was all futurelike. It was a step up from her two older Meganes, same story with the P plate in that she wanted a 19 but they took too long to process the order, and that was nice enough that she had a W plate facelift. The fat arse one was better in every way.

These days though they all appear to be run down, two wheeltrim, cracked windscreen, chocolate-smeared back seat, gaffer taped wingmirror type jobs. I think most of them must have ended up at auction at the same time and just been punted out through Yes Car Credit onto sink estates.

I'd still have one over a 307 or PT though.

^ Already too much love for the Megane for it to be on a universally too shite list :D

I have had Laguna 2's and the shaking ass megane and can confirm that they are both half decent cars to drive in a modern boring kind of way. Unfortunatly they are so badly built that I expect both to be extinct outside of their homeland within the next couple of years. The Pug 307 won't be far behind either but it is just slightly better. The PT crusier is just shit and is by far the most horrid thing ever to of darkened my garage door.

Hi,
I have got a Laguna 2 (2005, 2.0 16v on LPG) which I bought in February for 3000 Euros (have done about 20.000k in it)

I can't really fault it. Very cheap to run, confortable and it hasn't broken down yet. Even to took me to Spain and survived 42 degrees in Seville this summer.

Bit of a strange colour. The documents say it is yellow. I say it's green. :)

I bought it with a jammed AC Compressor that had left debris in the entire system. Cleaned it out, replaced the compressor with a second hand one and it's fine now (although the AC clutch begins to slip). I like it. Parts are cheap and it is simple to work on...

Just buy a late one, avoid the 2.2 dci and clean out under the scuttle panel...

So the list might just be going down to "PT Cruiser"? The car literally no one has said anything nice about on here? :-D

Daewoo matiz, the only car I have ever driven where I hated everything about it.

This thread doesn't make any sense to me. All cars are shite in one way or another. The PT cruiser especially has stacks of shite credentials.

I drove MiL Matiz, nasty cheap gutless pile of dog wank and it is expensive to road tax.

I thought I would give it an italian tune up on the m40 for her and chickened out at 65, terrifying

But I would still rather have one over a PT Crooner

Or a fucking Prius

In manual flavor they're not as bad.

But those are as rare as hen's teeth, making them only slightly less shit.

At the time, Daimler-Scheissler had a real winner. But it seems it didn't age well.

With a V6 and a manual transaxle, it really would have been my cup of tea, but I think the Platform Tall was too narrow, having been envisioned as an elongated version of the Peon. Which itself was a bit cynical. The list may have grown to two: Dodge Neon/Plymouth Breeze (as in: "Breeze be makin' that thing go slow!")

My mum had the estate version of the big bum Megane with the 1.6 and it was great to us. She bought it before the massiv alloys from the factory innit trend came in so it rode very nicely compared to new stuff now. In 130,000 miles the only thing that broke was the crank position sensor.

Neighbours used to have a PT Cruiser, they got rid of it recently because the alarm would go off if a car it didn't like drove past. Good fucking riddance.

Back up a touch... FIAT Stilo. From the era which even FIAT forgot about.

Does anyone round here own one?

Have we had the Audi A1 yet?

Really? Brother in law ran one for about five years and he loved the little thing. 50mpg, 3 cylinder lump was revvy and lively enough for what it needed to be, and cheap as chips general running costs. Even had masses of head room if your name was Max.

This is nothing short of automotive racism. You should all be ashamed.

Merc A Class semi auto.

Jag X Type

K12 Micra.

P12 Primera

Discuss.

There was a poverty spec manual 2.0 petrol X-Type in Cannock auctions last month, I wanted it.

Primevails in any form (even the fugly P12) are Autoshite just because they will last better than most of the competition and P12s were at least built in the UK.

K12 Micra to dull for any more words

The Merc A class can FOAD though

The ex Mrs_Chegg has a 307 and I honestly say it's a truly horrible thing to drive - All the controls feel like they're linked using bungee straps. The steering is stupidly light, the brakes have no feel and are ridiculously over-assisted and the throttle is equally "binary". Nasty, nasty hateful bag of shit...And her car ;)

Mk 5 Golf 1.4.Heavy with a nice rattly oil-burning 75 HP engine so sluggish and a much poorer quality interior than the previous model. Also the B6 Passat.Cut down quality over the B5 with some wonderful* high tech additions, such as an electronic handbrake and bland styling.

I had one as a courtesy car, it would have been more courteous to give me a bus pass. The engine was rougher than a Leeds landlord and the gearbox felt like it was made entirely of old bits of boat anchors. You couldn't lean on the door as the panel flexed and I had to whip off the door card and pop it back out. The interior was made by the people who usually made inserts for biscuit boxes. Just shite from start to end.

I'd rather have a PT Cruiser than a Vectra but ownership of either would see me sleeping in it.

How come nobody has mentioned Picasso's yet?
