What've you done mistah? May contain irresponsible bragging and bullshit.

The 192mph idiot who videoed himself on a public road then let the Police see it, made me think. Has anyone ever driven anywhere near to 200mph?

Let's hear your personal best.

We'll assume it was in Germany or on a track and of course accept its stupid and dangerous etc etc

I'm guessing our bike riding brethren will win this.

Me? I've hit the limiter in a few German barges over the years , so let's say 155.

We all know that the Horsey Horseless speedo overead massively so they don't count.

I've also hit the limiter on the Autobahn a few times, but generally drive like an old woman.

Fastest (and most scary) UK experience was as a passenger in a Tickford Capri in the late 1980's, flying through the Hanger Lane Underpass on the A40 at upwards of 120mph at 3am. I clearly remember us needing all 3 lanes as the road swept down and left towards Acton.

137 in a 4.0 XJ6 cause a pineapple twat in a Golf was almost able to climb in the boot on a private stretch of road.

This is of course all part of a dream I had.

185mph indicated on GSXR1100R on way to the German gp. Only ever done 70mph in the UK occifer. Above about 120mph the world really starts to move fast. I had to do an emergency stop from about 140mph once and was surprised just how long a distance it took.

Crept close to 150 mph in my old 525d during a dream that I was doing a night time spot check at work, at around 3am and 40 miles from home.

An indicated 130 mph in The Volvo 2 (my erstwhile 1997 Volvo V70) on an unrestricted autobahn in eastern Germany :)

My personal best in a Lada Niva was 86 mph

Every part of that car was vibrating including its driver

Managed 120 in a Renault 25. Would of done a bit more but was getting a bit light on the front

( *legal disclaimer * of course I'm just full of bullshit and have never broken the law )

Speeding is very silly, illegal, dangerous and most of all impossible in most of my cars.   However, if it were not silly and dangerous and illegal I would like to think that I had seen an indicated 145 from the passenger seat of a mate's Super Samurai.    I have been less reliably informed that we clocked 120 two-up on his Z900.  Apparently.

My personal, at the wheel bestest is more mundane and involves hitting the limiter on a Mk2 Cav SRi 130 just past Leicester Forest services (German branch) late one night.   It said 120 on the clock at the time (which must have been wrong, officer...)

Are you a traffic policeman????

Are you a little down on your target this month?

Checks phone and deletes videos

Damn it. I deleted post instead of editing. Anyway I may have seen 130 just over in a cav gls and a pug 205 derv hitting needle stop. I was young and silly. I have seen a GPS reading of 76 on slack hill on a Honda cub 90 and seen 105 on the clock of a reliant Robin before I lost my bottle and my arse caved in

An indicated but wildly exaggerated 76mph downhill in France in this lumpen item. Star Treks' Scotties cries of " I cannae hold her cap'n, she's breaking up!" was pretty much on the money.

After that anything else, including almost twice as fast in a Nissan 200SX Turbo, were a walk in the park.

I once did EIGHT TIMES the speed limit.

I've seen 115 on a Manta in what was then a 30 and is now a 20. It was my second lift when hitchhiking home, the first was a Citroën GS that was cruising at 105 on an A road. I only knew the GS was going fast because I saw the speedo.

My fastest was an indicated 150 in my old spoodled T5.

My favourite and most memorable was when i was a nipper being driven by my dad up to the Waterpump at the end of Aston Rd North in Brum... It was in a Lamborghini Espada he had in to repair the exhausts for a customer. We saw 80 mph .... It felt like i was in a Spaceship.Happy days.

Bottled it at an indicated 160mph on my ZZR1100. Fantastic just how hard it was still pulling at that point.

Obviously this was on a private section of unrestricted autobahn and not anywhere in the UK or Ireland.....

As a passenger, indicated 1/2 full on the fuel gauge of a tuned classic Mini Cooper (estimated 120 mph) This really was on a private road (main runway of Wellesbourne Airfield) so didn't seem all that fast until we tried to turn on to the perimeter track having only managed to slow to 60 :o

Posted

80*mph in neutral down Birdlip hill in my Autobianchi van. (On the way from Hemel Hempstead to an MOT fail in Ross on Wye)

**ie 60% over the limit

Best I've done is 140. Alleged top speed but it had more to go!

It was one of these rare beasties:

PHHeroMerc450SEL_04.jpg

In fairness it was the 6.9lt version and it was a private road coming back from B'ham (M5) at 01.00am .

Not the above car but  a silver one. I wonder if it's still about?!

Indicated 182mph on a tuned cbr600 on the M53.

Once had a 1.3HL Marina up to a whopping 85mph!! Blistering speed!!

One bit of road in Flintshire, not very busy and nowhere for the police to hide, I regularly get my S type upto 140mph.

130 in a 16v Volvo 940 saloon at 4am on the M5...years ago when I was stupid.

Years ago, a VW dealership I worked at had a road test route that included a bit of dual carriageway and a twisty country road, about three miles in total. Obviously I don't know anything about being a passenger in a customers Golf VR6 doing 120 down a b road.  Similarly I never a friend whos name I do not know never did similar speeds in a Polo G40. My they were good.

Similarly I don't know anyone who in about 2001 did end to end of the M65 in 11 minutes in a Mondeo ST. No sireee, don't know about that at all.

I have done an indicated 140 in a sierra gls following a mate in a mondeo st tdci he confirmed the speed from his car.

my mk1 sierra with a highly modified pinto I got off the clock (130 clocks) when racing a young man in a VR6 corrado.

The fastest I have ever been in a car though is when I was a passenger in a very modified (over 600bhp) sierra rs500, the thing did 180mph it wasn't slow getting there either it felt like the space shuttle was pushing it along

I had an indicated 135 out of the TDM, tucked down behind the fairing with an occasional glance up to check I wasn't heading off road.

Also 135 in my first BX 16Valve.

Indicated 142 in the Senator on the A10, rush hour, lights changed, booted it and left it there. It had more but gentle curves suddenly turned into hairpins and I kind of lost my bottle (this was a few years back and that stretch is now a mass of GATSOs.)

Had a ton out of a mk1 1.3 Astra estate, down hill with a following wind. The engine was screaming but it felt stable enough. Unlike the 1.3 Marina estate I had up to 95...

All on GB roads, come and get me copper! :P

A bit past 180 on a Honda Blackbird.

Also apparently, the fuel tank of this model will empty in 80 miles if a broken ZZR1100 is being towed swiftly.

The actual details of these escapades have been lost.

153 in a Daimler Double 6.  I was 19.  Got caught (albeit not at 153, thankfully) and lost my licence for a year.  Also, the Daimler got OMGHGF a week or so later - totally unrelated I'm sure.

These days I tend to wuss out a lot earlier than that, although I did once wind my 750i up to 130 to stop a Bini Cooper S getting past - then I remembered that the front tyres were perished and backed off sharpish.  Most I've ever broken the speed limit by was 110 in a 20 zone at 3am - dead straight A road, but it runs through a posh village so the residents presumably bullied the council into reducing the limit to make it easier for mummy to back the Q7 out of the drive to run little Tarquin the 300 yards to school.

Subjectively the fastest I've ever been was 74 on a 1980 Honda C90 (with a strong tailwind), although doing 55 in a Reliant Regal was nearly as bad.

Posted

Ooh, I managed to squeeze 70 out of a Honda Acty pick up that I'd borrowed from a mate who ran a fish stall on Bolton market. One of their empty polysyrene fish boxes was on the back, at 65 the turbulence behind the cab made it hover about a foot off the bed.

At 70 in a Honda Acty you can smell your own fear.

Passenger in a mates sapphire cosworth. 135 on the M55 5 up (it was'nt stolen).

I have done 65 mph in a LDV pickup- surely some kind of record?

Posted

I did 62* in the Rialto, then woke up in a cold sweat. It was indeed a dream.

I honestly don't think I've ever done over 100. Never had any need to.
